[Bug 37134] unable to add network-printer using the same driver
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/37134 Affects: gnome-cups-manager (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: Using ubuntu Dapper (with the latest updates 29/03/2006) in an office environment I observed the following problem: Using System / Printing (gnome-cups-manger) did not allow me to add a network printer. The problem seems to be that there are several printers at different location which all use the same print driver. When selecting the printer (driver) NO new printer has been added to the print dialog. Possibly this is a problem of naming since the following worked: 1. Adding a printer using the wrong/different driver (driver-name) did the job - a new printer has been added. 2. Then it is possible to choose the correct print-driver from the properties of the new printer. 3. Printer worked. It seems that this is a naming problem: gnome-cups-manager seems not to be able to create a new printer with the same name. In addition it is not possible to change the printer-name or the location (via properties in the gnome-cups-manager) which makes it hard to distinguish printers. Possibly this is related to the following bug: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/gnome-cups-manager/+bug/9374 This is a major problem in an office environment since typically the same printers are used at different places - and the user cannot easily add/distinguish printers. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34203 Task: ubuntu gnome-vfs2 Assignee: (unassigned) = Ubuntu Desktop Bugs Target: None = ubuntu-6.04 Comment: Frank, has said some comments ago the desktop team is bug flooded, there is hundred of bugs filled a week (a good part of it beeing duplicates and random wishlist) and there is few people working on those, easy to do the maths and figure that people have to prioritize the work. That issue is an upstream one and probably the same on all distro, it would require somebody having a smb use and wanting to work with upstream on it. It's on somewhat on my list but I've still a backlog of around 190 bugs to reply too before. There is a mail on the gnome-vfs upstream list from today with title Problems with SMB module so maybe upstream will work on it. I'm setting the bug as to look on for dapper, but you use an unstable version so try better to try working with upstream if you want to get it fixed quickly. Pinging every few days on the bug is not going to make things faster if people are just overworked which is the case at the moment ... -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 35032] poor colours on Language Selector window
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/35032 Comment: The screenshot I linked to shows the selector I was originally talking about when I filed the bug (accessed from the GDM login screen). The first commenter interpreted the big to be about a different window, which I then replied to in my first comment. From the GDM login, choose select language. A new window opens. Note the colour of the selector menus before you click on them. Note the colour after clicking and the selectable items have appeared (this is the state the screenshot above was taken in). I find both the initial colour (a dark grey - nowhere else do we use this colour) and the colours of the menu itself (light tan on medium tan) to be not very good choices. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 37148] Cannot Conver Files (mp3) that Totem-gstreamer can play
Public bug reported: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/37148 Affects: serpentine (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: I am using Dapper Flight 5, fully updated. I just tried to burn a CD with three files on it. I got an error that Serpentine couldn't convert the files. I removed one of the three and the CD wrote correctly. The file in question is an 80kbps mp3 that plays fine in Totem- Gstreamer. As I understand things, if it plays in totem-gst, it should work in Serpentine. I cannot provide a copy of the file (due to obvious copyright reasons) - can I give you enough information to help figure out why this may be happening? -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 30256] hal makes tons of scsi bus resets
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30256 Comment: Sorry, I had forgot about this bug. This bug was fixed by a new hal upload some days after I filed the bug. Probably by 0.5.6-4ubuntu1 the 14th of February. Unknown if the continous bus resets were the cause, but my scsi cd-writer is now dead. But the scsi dvd-rom seems to be working ok :) So this bug can be closed now. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
