[Bug 37646] Re: wnck-applet doesn't work at login, kill/reload fixes it

2006-04-05 Thread Vincent Untz
Stack trace will help, of course :-)

I guess the one I posted is useless?

Yeah, it's a typical libwnck strack trace you get when you don't have the dbg
package.

It's kind of interesting if it only doesn't react to new events. Does it also
happen with other applets (the workspace switcher, the window selector, etc.)?
Can you use those other applets or are they blocked?

[Bug 38136] British English Spellings are Used

2006-04-05 Thread Richard Laager
Public bug reported:

Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)

 Status: Needs Info

Description:
It seems that Evolution is showing things using British spellings. For
example, in the preferences, there is a Colours tab. I'm not sure if
this is an upstream bug or not, so I'm filing it here. I suspect this
is a case of Evolution somehow wrongly loading (or being wrongly told to
load) the en_GB translations.

[Bug 33750] Re: no preview button

2006-04-05 Thread Dhonn Lushine
I was going to file the same bug. It's so useful and intuitive to have one.
Its really confusing to users not to have it. It seems not complete. They
patch is readily avaiable here:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=62417

For now though its not part of the current gnome tree but im sure it will be
added later.

We can add simple functionality. For now it would be cool if we can add a
simply click the the little preview window to bring it to full screen then
click the fullscreen preview again to get out.

I sell computers full time and I noticed that computer users get confused by
the current xp implementation. They dont understand why the screensaver doesnt
come on and I tell them its because they havent stopped moving the mouse after
they hit the preview button.

[Bug 38142] Extreme difficulty removing entries in the Places menu

2006-04-05 Thread Rune Maagensen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 12445 ***

Public bug reported:

Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I've added an FTP place in my places menu. All I did was to connect to
server, and now it's there, never asked me to be a permanent through
bootups.

I've been trying to remove the entry several times without luck.
Rightclicking acts as leftclicking.

I've tried to open Networkservers and deleting the entry, not allowed.

Finally I thought of unmount and that worked.

Suggested changes:
Remove Delete and Move to Thrash for mounted network servers, they don't
apply anyway
Enable rightcliking in the places menu (and the other menu for that sake). If I
wanted a onebutton mouse i'd have bought a Mac.

Sorry for the angry tone, but this is something that needs to be
changed. I'm aware that it's probably a Design choise, but imho an
choise as bad as can be.

[Bug 38154] Error with pinging an imap server, when I work offline

2006-04-05 Thread Keywan Najafi Tonekaboni
Public bug reported:

Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Since I use Dapper I have a strange and senseless error, while I am
working offline:

Error while Pinging IMAP server imap4.vr.in-berlin.de.

You must be working online to complete this operation

This error comes 5-10minutes after I go offline and then every X minutes
(maybe 10 or 15minutes), after I click on ok.

I am working offline in evolution, because I don't have a network
connection and I didn't want that evolution try to connect a server. Why
evolution tries to ping an IMAP server, when I am offline. This seems
to be a bug.

[Bug 38169] totem firefox plugin doesn't plug in

2006-04-05 Thread Matthew East
Public bug reported:

Affects: totem totem-gstreamer-firefox-plugin (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
1. Install totem-gstreamer-firefox-plugin
2. Go to http://multimedia.repubblica.it/

There should be a video player opening in the top left of the screen. It
works ok with mozilla-mplayer (although more codecs are needed to play
the wmv video streams), and with Microsoft Windows Media Player.

I don't know if gstreamer can handle the wmv streams, but the plugin
should at least plug in and try on this website.

[Bug 38090] Re: Icons which are too orange and that look nothing like what they are supposed to portray

2006-04-05 Thread Matthew East
reopening, with new description

** Description changed:

- Two icons particularly grate:
+ I'm going to edit the description to make this bug more focused, and
+ reopen it. Sorry for the confusion.

- * The icon used for the Keyboard preference in GNOME looks nothing like a
keyboard.
- * The icon used for the trashcan looks like a battery monitor - incredibly
confusing.
-
- Also, the icons in general are much too orange: I like orange in the new
- theme but these icons have to appear alongside non-orange icons (e.g. in
- the Places) menu, and the contrast looks really bad.
+ We all know that these icons are too orange. However, there is a
+ specific problem I'd like to draw attention to: in the Places menu and
+ on the Desktop, the orange icons appear alongside a number of
+ white/silver/blue icons, and this causes a striking contrast which can
+ only be described as a bug. I'll attach a screenshot, note the conflict
+ between these colours.

** Changed in: ubuntu-artwork (Ubuntu)

 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:

Rhythmbox crashed good when I was adding a file from Media Library to custom

down.

I compiled a debug build and reproduced the bug using same steps,
but this time RB or or gdb froze X almost completely. I was able to move mouse

[Bug 38180] gnome-panel keeps on crashing - .recently-used file problem

2006-04-05 Thread Claudio Bernardini
Public bug reported:

Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
We've stepped into a critical problem for the gnome desktop. Gnome-panel
keeps on crashing if the user opened a folder with a name containing the
'' symbol in its name so that it is written in the file ~/.recently-
used.

The folder was created by a linux user (running Ubuntu Hoary 5.10) on a
nfs share in our network. The cause could be related to a text encoding
issue but gnome-panel could send a warning instead of crashing and
setting the desktop in a totally unusable state.

In the file ~/.xsession-errors this issue was tracked

Steps to reproduce the problem:

1 - Create a folder eith name 'Folder Crash'
2 - Copy a file in that folder (we used an OOo file)
3 - Open the file with proper application

Yes, I use F6, F7 and F8, to control Rhythmbox.
However if I delete these short-cuts, it doesn't improve things.
Also, the Control+F12 doesn't work, and I have no shortcut that uses F12.

[Bug 38090] Re: Colour clash in icons on the Places menu and the desktop

2006-04-05 Thread klepas
I think this is independent of any theme. If you set the Tango theme as your
prefered icon set, and look at the 'Places' menu you see predominately blue
icons... because those are on the colour palette, and the same applies for the
new Human icons.

The prefered icon set can always be altered and changed to one's liking. :)

[Bug 38184] mail sent through deskbar not saved in the sent items folder

2006-04-05 Thread Andrea Garbarini
Public bug reported:

Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
running dapper, fully updated, mails sent to contacts found through
gnome's deskbar won't be stored in the sent items folder of my imap
account, I noticed even the save as draft action seems to be broken
(i.e. no mail gets actually stored in the drafts folder)

steps to reproduce:

- enter a contact name stored in evo's list in gnome's deskbar
- write your mail
- send it, save it as draft etc but it won't be stored in the proper folder

[Bug 38185] transparent panel: strange color problems

2006-04-05 Thread Alexander Kirillov
Public bug reported:

Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
In dapper flight 6, if desktop background is a tiled picture and panel
background is transparent, this results in the panel, instead of being
transparent, acquiring a starnge color. See attached screen shot.

This only happens if desktop background is set to tiled - for other
options (e.g., fill screen) everything is OK.

[Bug 38185] Re: transparent panel: strange color problems

2006-04-05 Thread Carthik Sharma
I am unable to recreate this bug even after setting the panel background to
transparent with a color white (#FF), and a tiled background.

Maybe the reporter had chosen a different color for the panel background, and
had transparency set to a value other than 100% leading to the observed tint?

Can be reporter please provide exact information on how to recreate the bug, or
verify if it is, indeed, just the color tint showing up?

[Bug 38169] Re: totem firefox plugin doesn't plug in

2006-04-05 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks for your bug. I'm not sure that's a totem bug. I've tried from Ubuntu
5.10 with totem-xine it doesn't work neither, nor does mozilla-mplayer on
dapper. There is an issue which is that totem doesn't list the video/x-ms-wvx
type, but without that the website seems to be made for windows player.

Discussion with chpe (upstream for epiphany) on IRC:

seb128 I got the mimetype with ethereal before when running mplayer on
http://mediaserver.kataweb.it/tgrep/tg12.wmv
chpe hmm not sure, but that JS seems windows-centric, it tries to instaniate
the flash plugin with object classid... not sure that works on linux at all
...
chpe I don't think this works on linux, it looks for Media Player...
...
chpe if you change the plugin
chpe  *((char **)value) = Totem Mozilla Plugin;
chpe to Windows Media Player (Totem; compatible) or sth like that
...
chpe but then the JS expects the windows media player JS objects, which totem
doesn't implement... will probably warn on JS console and/or not work :)
seb128 hum, k, thank you for the comments on that

Do you have it working on linux with some other browser or player?

[Bug 38195] mime type for PDF files?

2006-04-05 Thread Alexander Kirillov
Public bug reported:

Affects: shared-mime-info (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
(not sure if this is correct package - please move as necessary)

When trying to open a PDF file in GNOME, I get this message:
--
Cannot open PS9.pdf
The filename PS9.pdf indicates that this file is of type PDF document. The
contents of the file indicate that the file is of type plain text document.
If you open this file, the file might present a security risk to your system.

Do not open the file unless you created the file yourself, or received the file
from a trusted source. To open the file, rename the file to the correct
extension for plain text document, then open the file normally.
Alternatively, use the Open With menu to choose a specific application for the
file.
-

The properties dialofg shows file type as plain text. However, the file is
indeed a PDF file; it starts with
%PDF-1.2
and opens just fine in acroread and evince. Moreover, I had no problems opening
the same file on Ubuntu Breezy machine, where it was indentified as PDF
document
