[Bug 40874] Thumbnail settings don't work as expected
Public bug reported: Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: Hi, I'm running AMD64 Dapper, up to date. When I'm downloading a longer video using bittorrent (bittornado client), gnome-video-thumbnailer tries, again and again, to preview the file. This results in my HDD being hit hard, and wild swings in my memory usage every 10 seconds as the process runs and re-runs. When I kill the process, all is well. I have the preview preferences in nautilus set so it should only be previewing local files under 5MB in size. The intention is to show me previews of my photos, but not waste resources previewing gigabytes of video. Especially not trying to preview the same incomplete file 10 times a minute. Is there a way to set the preferences so that it will work that way? If so, we need to make the preferences more clear. This behaviour is not as advertised. ** Attachment added: Ram usage due to thumbnailing http://librarian.launchpad.net/2277284/Screenshot-System%20Monitor.png -- Thumbnail settings don't work as expected https://launchpad.net/bugs/40874 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 40877] Dropping a desktop icon over the panel causes horrible UI munging
Public bug reported: Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: I am running the latest Ubuntu development packages (gnome-panel 2.14.1-0ubuntu5). Description: I had a tall icon (a preview of a tall image) that I dropped over the Menu Bar (or near it) in my default gnome panel at the top of the display. The icon snapped down so that it was placed just beneath the panel on the desktop. This is the behavior I would expect. However, something very bad happened with the gnome panel. [Bug 40923] GNOME panel crash/segfault on logout
Public bug reported: Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: Description of the problem: I recently enabled core dumps on my system after trying to track down a gedit crash on logout. After some testing it appears that gedit isn't the only program that segfaults during a GNOME logout (although it is the one which does it 100% of the time). Steps to reproduce: 1. Create a ~/.gnomerc file that contains the following: ulimit -c unlimited export GNOME_DISABLE_CRASH_DIALOG=1 2. Run echo /tmp/core.%e-%p /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern 3. If you are logged into GNOME logout and then back in again. 4. Run the two scripts start-internetsoundvideoapps.sh start-accessoriesgamesapps.sh waiting for the first script to finish before running the second. 5. After all apps have loaded play a video in totem and some music in rhythmbox. 6. Click the logout button at the top right hand corner of the screen. 7. Click the log out button in the window that appears. 8. Once logout has finally finished switch to VT1, log in and inspect /tmp/ for core files. Expected results: No core files to be found. Actual results: Following core files were found: core.deskbar-applet-4465 core.evolution-alarm-5446 core.evolution-excha-4482 core.gedit-5520 core.gnome-panel-4402 core.python-4684 core.rhythmbox-4683 core.sound-juicer-4685 core.totem-4682 gnome-panel stack trace and scripts to come. ** Attachment added: Script to start programs in the accessories and games menus http://librarian.launchpad.net/2279217/start-accessoriesgamesapps.sh ** Attachment added: Script to start programs in the internet and sound video menus http://librarian.launchpad.net/2279219/start-internetsoundvideoapps.sh ** Attachment added: gnome panel backtrace http://librarian.launchpad.net/2279220/gnome-panel-backtrace.txt -- GNOME panel crash/segfault on logout https://launchpad.net/bugs/40923 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 40946] Highlight menu bar on mouseover
Public bug reported: Affects: gtk+2.0 libgtk2.0-0 (Ubuntu) Severity: Normal Priority: (none set) Status: Unconfirmed Description: I wish that items in a menubar were highlighted on mouseover, like it happens for toolbars. Currently I get a feeling of unresponsiveness when the mouse goes over a menu bar and the item isn't highlighted. I can't get used to it because the toolbar does highlight its items on mouseover. -- Highlight menu bar on mouseover https://launchpad.net/bugs/40946 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
