[Bug 40874] Thumbnail settings don't work as expected

2006-04-23 Thread Rounan
Public bug reported:

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Hi,

I'm running AMD64 Dapper, up to date.

When I'm downloading a longer video using bittorrent (bittornado
client), gnome-video-thumbnailer tries, again and again, to preview the
file. This results in my HDD being hit hard, and wild swings in my
memory usage every 10 seconds as the process runs and re-runs. When I
kill the process, all is well.

I have the preview preferences in nautilus set so it should only be
previewing local files under 5MB in size. The intention is to show me
previews of my photos, but not waste resources previewing gigabytes of
video. Especially not trying to preview the same incomplete file 10
times a minute.

Is there a way to set the preferences so that it will work that way? If
so, we need to make the preferences more clear. This behaviour is not as
advertised.

[Bug 40873] Creating screenshot results in new icon overlapping another on desktop

2006-04-23 Thread Miles Lane
Public bug reported:

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Version: 2.14.1-0ubuntu4
I am running the latest Dapper/development packages.

Problem:

I had an icon displayed on my desktop for a text file.
I wanted to capture a screenshot of a layout problem for icons.
I selected Applications - Accessories - Take Screenshot.
When I saved the screenshot into my Desktop directory, an icon was added to the
desktop. It was placed right on top of my previously existing icon. I have
taken another screenshot showing the result. This image will be attached.

[Bug 40876] google live bug with deskbar applet

2006-04-23 Thread Todd Deshane
Public bug reported:

Affects: deskbar-applet (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
When typing a single letter the applet doesn't work. This was figured
out by running /usr/lib/deskbar-applet/deskbar-applet -w on the

two or more characters seem to work fine, but one character will crash
it so, a slow first character type on the applet will make it unusable

[Bug 40877] Dropping a desktop icon over the panel causes horrible UI munging

2006-04-23 Thread Miles Lane
Public bug reported:

Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I am running the latest Ubuntu development packages (gnome-panel
2.14.1-0ubuntu5).

Description:

I had a tall icon (a preview of a tall image) that I dropped over the
Menu Bar (or near it) in my default gnome panel at the top of the
display. The icon snapped down so that it was placed just beneath the
panel on the desktop. This is the behavior I would expect. However,
something very bad happened with the gnome panel. It became covered
along its entire width with repeated renderings of the Menu Bar. I am
attaching a screenshot.

Repro:

You can see the tall icon in the attached screenshot. Create something
like it, and then try repeatedly dropping the preview icon onto your
gnome panel somewhere over or near the Menu Bar.

2006-04-23 Thread Rumpeltux
I confirm this bug as well. You can put text into it by clicking with the
middle-mouse-button.
When selected it seems like the focus is overridden by the currently active
window, so this might rather be a bug in compiz.

When opening the Gnome-Menu, the focus in the deskbar becomes visible, but you
still cannot type and upon closing the menu, the focus disappears again.

That setting the default returned the value to Print suggests that this

that the keybindings were changed from the default at some point in the
past. So the bug is really not being able to set the key correctly from

looks like you set the image as the panel background. the image is lable
screenshot so i assum that the top of it contains a gnome panel. now you have a
screenshot of gnome panel set as the background of gnome panel.

right click on the panel and choose properties, not go to the background tab.
you can set it back to None.

this is all expected behaviour, so i will set the bug to rejected. if you feel
this is bad behaviour then i suppose you should reopen it.

[Bug 34203] Re: smb access almost unusable slow in Dapper compared to Breezy

2006-04-23 Thread clast
it is still rather slow, i don't how it was before the update though!
sometimes the shares can't be displayed the first time you try. i have to hit
reload almost everytime im browsing the shares of a remote windows computer.

besides that it's working better than in breezy :)

[Bug 40918] totem in breezy-updates depends on unavailable totem-xine

2006-04-23 Thread Ewan Mac Mahon
Public bug reported:

Affects: totem (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
The totem dummy package in breezy-updates (=
1.2.0-0ubuntu3.1) depends on the corresponding version of either
totem-gstreamer or totem-xine, but only totem-gstreamer is available in
breezy-updates.

This means that on a system with totem-xine update-notifier complains
about totem being kept back, and an attempt to update totem individually
tries to replace the xine backend with the gstreamer one.

[Bug 40923] GNOME panel crash/segfault on logout

2006-04-23 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Public bug reported:

Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Description of the problem:
I recently enabled core dumps on my system after trying to track down a gedit
crash on logout. After some testing it appears that gedit isn't the only
program that segfaults during a GNOME logout (although it is the one which does
it 100% of the time).

Steps to reproduce:
1. Create a ~/.gnomerc file that contains the following:
ulimit -c unlimited
export GNOME_DISABLE_CRASH_DIALOG=1
2. Run
echo /tmp/core.%e-%p /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern
3. If you are logged into GNOME logout and then back in again.
4. Run the two scripts
start-internetsoundvideoapps.sh
start-accessoriesgamesapps.sh
waiting for the first script to finish before running the second.
5. After all apps have loaded play a video in totem and some music in rhythmbox.
6. Click the logout button at the top right hand corner of the screen.
7. Click the log out button in the window that appears.
8. Once logout has finally finished switch to VT1, log in and inspect /tmp/ for
core files.

Expected results:
No core files to be found.

Actual results:
Following core files were found:
core.deskbar-applet-4465
core.evolution-alarm-5446
core.evolution-excha-4482
core.gedit-5520
core.gnome-panel-4402
core.python-4684
core.rhythmbox-4683

[Bug 40927] Nautilus ignores localized in Desktop if X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain= is present

2006-04-23 Thread Alexandre Otto Strube
Public bug reported:

Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
From bug #39002:

To test it:
- run latest dapper live
- when isolinux options appears, choose a language other than english (I always
test with Brazilian Portuguese)
- gnome will launch, partly translated.
- Go to menu applications/accessories (acessórios in pt_BR)
- Calculator, for instance, is there, correctly translated as Calculadora
- Right-click calculator and choose Add this launcher to desktop
- Calculator will appear at desktop, but in english!
- Open a terminal and edit the .desktop file.
- Comment the last line, X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=
- Now the icon is correctly translated.

This breaks espresso icon from being localized, as its icon appears on
the desktop.

Public bug reported:

 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I have two ALSA soundcards:

2) Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS Notebook (snd_emu10k1)

Without my Audigy, the Volume +/- keys work beautifully, and the volume
OSD (on press) correcponds to the volume control levels. With the Audigy
in, working and selected as default in the volume control settings (from
the gnome-control-center applet and the tray icon), the OSD shows and
the volume level changes, but ONLY FOR THE ICH6. The script that updates
the volume control (presumably using aumix) has not changed the device
corresponding to the selection in the Volume Control settings. I can

[Bug 40877] Re: Dropping a desktop icon over the panel causes horrible UI munging

Oh, I see. Perhaps a confirmation dialog would help users who
unintentionally hit this functionality. This would have the side-
benefit of informing users that this functionality exists and give them
a clue that the Panel properties is the place to undo the change, if
need be. Should I file a separate bug to request this?

confusing for users. This pretty much kills all the usability of the

Description:

currently tango-icon-theme doesn't cover all Gtk stock icons. IMHO it should
