[Bug 30659] Re: should detect ekiga (voip) activity as activity and not lock screen
I disagree about handling voice+video different from voice-only calls. I'm in both cases using the computer and I think this is similar enough to the case of watching a movie (which inhibits the screensaver from starting). Note that I might not be jotting down stuff all the time and I have a very short lock timeout (1 minute) which combined with a long password means unlocking the screen actually is a significant time cost in the middle of a conversation. You could obviously say that those are silly settings, but to me as a user, I'm using the computer when sitting in front of it and talking. About the wandering around the room for ten minutes; I have a cord about 1.5m long so it'd be a very small walk in my case. Screen burn is mostly a problem for CRTs and then you are talking about much, much, much more time than what you'd get from sitting in a phone call. And if you're worried about that, you can always just switch on the screensaver yourself. Same goes for laptop power consumption. (Actually, I think dimming the screen would be fine, but not turning it off or locking it.) -- should detect ekiga (voip) activity as activity and not lock screen https://launchpad.net/bugs/30659 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 50079] CD Burner needs file based temporary directory
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus-cd-burner By default CD Burner uses the system temporary directory to store the image it is creating to burn onto disc. This is normally /tmp which is a tmpfs filesystem and has a tendency to fill up when you are burning large DVDs. On smaller systems the swap space is unlikely to be big enough to accommodate a DVD image. I would suggest setting 'temp_iso_dir' to /var/tmp by default. The current workaround is to use 'gconf-editor' and alter the variable by hand. [Bug 48377] Re: Dapper Sound System broken by plugging in a Webcam
(Dropping Importance. Sorry, but a usability bug, while extremely annoying, does not constitute an Importance of the extremity of a system crash.) If System Preferences Sound Default sound card's drop-down menu is not working properly, that's a bug in the gnome-control-center source package. alsa-utils in Dapper includes the asoundconf(1) utility that gnome- control-center's Sound applet invokes to perform the background task. If you find using asoundconf(1) [see the set-default-card convenience macro] remains utterly ineffectual, then you can forcibly set one driver to /not/ be the default (i.e., not grab index 0). Let's take the example of my computer, which uses the snd_intel8x0 and snd_usb_audio drivers. (While asoundconf(1) works for me, for the purposes of this illustration I'll pretend it doesn't work.) Let's say that I really want my onboard sound chipset to be the secondary instead of the primary, since my M-Audio Transit USB is a much better/preferable device. In this case I would issue the following command: $ echo options snd_intel8x0 index=-2 |sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d /alsa-base The above command effectively forces the snd_intel8x0 driver to not grab the first available index in the presence of other drivers. So -- what info is needed for you guys? Please /attach/ (don't comment inline) the output from ``lspci -v cat /proc/asound/cards''. Also indicate which of the cards you wish to use as the primary one and whether asoundconf(1) [with the convenience macro mentioned above] works when you invoke it by hand and restart ALSA apps (this does not affect OSS emulation). ** Changed in: alsa-lib (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: alsa-lib = alsa-utils Importance: High = Low Status: Unconfirmed = Needs Info -- Dapper Sound System broken by plugging in a Webcam https://launchpad.net/bugs/48377 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
