[Bug 50773] Re: avatars in gaim

2006-06-23 Thread Luke Schierer
While it should be possible, it is not the sort of thing we react
strongly in favor of upstream. We value our independance from gnome.
If this icon can be pulled without linking against gnome (as the proxy
settings or the browser stuff can be) then it is possible we would
accept it in that form.

There are issues though, how to control it (as some gnome users would
want different icons for different accounts) being the biggest of them.

It has not, to my knowledge, been fixed.

Rather than going through all of that though, it may help to find the
contact manually (scroll to wherever it would be) then edit and save the
changes - that worked for me.

That said, I've stopped using Evolution. It has a lot of handy tools,

Many of the ideas and plans discussed in this thread are good ones, but
the current reportbug is worse than useless -- it is actively harmful to
community contributions, unless Corey Burger continues to manually catch
all bug reports sent by reportbug.

Please remove reportbug from edgy *now*. Put it back when it is fixed
to do more good than harm. Think of the other useful things that Corey
Burger can start doing when he/she no longer needs to spend time
manually inspecting spam to find bug reports misfiled by this stupid
reportbug.

P.S. Thank you Corey Burger.

[Bug 50807] X processes do not always start properly after resume

2006-06-23 Thread Mary Gardiner
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 49221 ***

Public bug reported:

About 80% of suspend/resumes on this machine (a Fujitsu Lifebook S6120
for what it's worth) work fine. However, the rest of the time upon
resuming I successfully put my password into gnome-screensaveer and
while I can use existing programs opened prior to the suspend, I cannot
start new programs.

According to strace, it's blocking on a socket read, here's the relevant
output when I try and open an xterm:

connect(4, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path=/tmp/.ICE-unix/15504}, 22) = 0

[Bug 7839] Re: Ubuntu bug reporting tools need to point to Ubuntu bug systems

2006-06-23 Thread auspex
I've filed bugs via reportbug. I've _never_ received a confirmation,
let alone instruction to use Launchpad. Frankly, one of the reasons
people will use reportbug is because it's a whole lot easier than trying
to figure out how to submit a bug in Launchpad (I've submitted about a
half-dozen through Launchpad - it still isn't becoming simple). And
disbelief that Ubuntu is STILL shipping with a broken reportbug, almost
two years after this bug was opened (and more than one fix was announced
as imminent) is quite understandable.

[Bug 50485] Re: New tabs do not run command as a login shell

2006-06-23 Thread RichardQuirk
The subsequent tabs have the same aliases as the 1st tab here. The only
difference is that you don't get teleported back to $HOME when you open
a new tab. Anything in .bashrc gets exported in the new tab though.

[Bug 32643] Re: [Bug 32643] Failure to 'get it'.

2006-06-23 Thread John Dong
Charles,

The trade-off for mounting USB devices sync would be faster wear and tear on
the drive, along with applications hanging for longer periods of time while
trying to write data.

Even operating systems that mount sync (Linux OR Windows or whatever) do not
make it safe to yank out USB devices. That still leaves the possible of
corrupted filesystem metadata structures -- I've interned at the IT desk for
a large company before and I've personally seen cases (multiple) on windows
XP where FAT32 thumb drives were unrecoverably corrupted due to improper
removal.

Mounting 'sync' does exactly what XP tells you: Optimize for quick removal.
In other words, the unmounting (safely remove hardware) option executes
faster, but you still have to do it. Never ever is it safe to yank thumb
drives out of systems -- windows or linux. Just because you got away with it
before doesn't make it safe!

[Bug 32126] Re: sleep shortcut belongs to gnome-power-manager

2006-06-23 Thread Nick_Hill
It is a bug for the desktop infrastructure to handle keyboard events for
suspend and hibernate.

Users of all desktops and users of console will want consistent power
saving keyboard shortcuts.

The desktop environment should just write the settings to a config file
and let a script make changes to the system on boot-up or on settings
change.

[Bug 49220] Re: [Bug 49220] Re: [Edgy] Broken packages while trying to install libgtk2.0-dev

2006-06-23 Thread Toby Smithe
On Fri, 2006-06-23 at 09:10 +, Sebastien Bacher wrote:
could you try to install libglib2.0-0?

It is installed; as I said, by rolling back to what appeared to be an
earlier version using one of aptitude's suggested solutions, I managed
to install libgtk2.0-dev. However, this now seems to be the latest
version, as aptitude install libgtk2.0-dev showed no updates to the
package. The version is (of libgtk2.0-dev) 2.8.17-1ubuntu5, and (of
libglib2.0-0) 2.10.2-1ubuntu3. Shouldn't they be the same - either
2.8.17 or 2.10.2?

[Bug 7839] Re: Ubuntu bug reporting tools need to point to Ubuntu bug systems

2006-06-23 Thread GerhardGaußling
...is quite not(?) understandable.
Why reinventing the wheel by develop a commandline interface (we need one)
without respecting the good aspects of reportbug? BTW, reportbug is very well
integrated in the debian BTS, and you don't need something else beside than a
working MUA.
Is there any developement on a commandline interface to malone (similar to
reportbug to the debian BTS), which would be easy to use by a GUI? Sorry, but
I'm not at the edge of the state of developement.

[Bug 50737] Re: totem-xine crashes with 'BadAlloc' when run manually

2006-06-23 Thread Jason Ribeiro
Thanks for the bug report. This seems to be similar to bug #35229. Can
you see if the workaround provided at

renaming /usr/share/totem/totem_logo.png to
/usr/share/totem/totem_logo.png.old takes care of the error you are
receiving?

This does indeed correct the problem. I apologize for the duplicate. I
should note that this seems to be i915 specific, since that is the
videocard in my laptop. This bug never occured at all on my desktop
which uses a Nvidia GeForce4 440 MX.
