[Bug 44101] Re: [Dapper] gnome-sound-properties always defaults to first card

2006-06-24 Thread jwmislan
I am also experiencing the same problem with gnome-sound-properties
(not retaining) my default soundcard preference.

The same existed in breezy which never got resolved by a bugfix.
I had to set snd-emu10k1 to index=0 in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base to get it to
be default (card 0) , and snd-cmipci to index=1 for second soundcard.
This dosn't seem to work anymore in Dapper though.
There should be a dependable way to force these preferences -
like setting soundcard-name=index=0 in ./asoundrc or /etc/asound.conf
This is a serious issue to me not a trivial one.
I have to turn off the cmipci sound on the soyo MB in bios to fix it now , and
I Need that second sound card for my audio recording work.

[Bug 7839] Re: Ubuntu bug reporting tools need to point to Ubuntu bug systems

2006-06-24 Thread Yagisan
I too express disbelif that reportbug still is not integrated into the
rest of the Ubuntu bug reporting infrastructure. I've come to expect
now, that it never will.

Whilst reportbug is useless for reporting bugs to Ubuntu, it is
extremely useful for peole like myself that provide 3rd party Ubuntu
repositories. Should you run reportbug on one of my packages, it
actually works, and sends the email to an adress that is monitored for
bugs on a daily basis. Removal of reportbug, would castarate my bug
reporting system, because Ubuntu appears to rather work on something
else.

Whilst I'd rather see reportbug fixed - It could be set up to end email
to a specifc address for bugs rather then the mailing list.

[Bug 50838] USB dead after unplugging default USB audio adapter

2006-06-24 Thread Aleksander Blomskøld
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

I'm having a problem with the USB-ports being dead after unplugging my
USB audio adapter. It seems like gnome-volume-manager is blocking the
USB ports. This is always reproducable for me, and for a friend of mine
which has tested on a different computer with a different USB-audio
adapter. We're both using laptops with Ubuntu Dapper installed.

Here are my steps to reproduce and the syslog-messages I get:
* Unplugging the audio-adapter
Jun 24 17:38:05 localhost kernel: [17214132.772000] usb 1-1: USB disconnect,
address 3

The USB-mouse is still working.

* Unplugging the USB-mouse

* Plugging in the USB-mouse
USB-mouse not working, not even getting power. No new information in syslog.

* Chaning the device for gnome-volume-manager to control from the USB-adapter
to my sound card on the motherboard of my laptop:
Jun 24 17:39:13 localhost kernel: [17214200.396000] usb 1-2: USB disconnect,
address 4
Jun 24 17:39:13 localhost kernel: [17214201.052000] usb 1-2: new low speed USB
device using uhci_hcd and address 5

The mouse is now working properly.

[Bug 50852] gam_server eats all CPU on Dapper

2006-06-24 Thread jmspeex

It seems like gamin is still not fixed in Dapper. It would eat all
available CPU on my machine and would respawn automatically when killed
(killing it on Breezy used to at least work for a while). The only way
I've been able to solve my problem is to remove the binary. Would be
nice if it was either fixed or finally eliminated from the distribution.

[Bug 50854] gnome-cups-icon memory leak in Dapper

2006-06-24 Thread jmspeex
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-cups-manager

I think I've encountered a bad memory leak in gnome-cups-icon. Basically, ps
gives me:
% ps aux | grep cups-icon
jm 27444 0.2 7.6 217880 79300 ?Ss Jun07 64:34
gnome-cups-icon --sm-config-prefix /gnome-cups-icon-ZEJuRy/ --sm-client-id
1030a3bec80001132633350007725 --screen 0

To make sure it's not just shared (virtual) mem, I tried killing it and
seeing the impact of free (real) memory:

% free
 total used free sharedbuffers cached
Mem: 1036000 805184 230816 0 3104 87528
-/+ buffers/cache: 714552 321448
Swap: 1023992 977464 46528

% killall gnome-cups-icon

% free
 total used free sharedbuffers cached
Mem: 1036000 722640 313360 0 3392 91068
-/+ buffers/cache: 628180 407820
Swap: 1023992 890556 133436

This means that gnome-cups-icon was really using about 160 MB of
memory, which it totally unacceptable even if it's not a leak.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal-device-manager

My mobile phone is a Motorola RAZR V3X.
It has a mini-SD memory card.
The phone is on the settingof storage device so the memory should just come

Using the phone like this works fine with XP.

When I plug the phone in with Ubuntu dapper, it is mounted fine and I
can copy files to the drive.

The problem occurs when I try to unmount it.
The drive is never unmounted.

You are right Travis. You have to hit the arrows.

Kyle, if this doesn't help, could you attach a screenshot?

[Bug 50877] Incorrect en_US translation for the minimize/maximize tooltips

2006-06-24 Thread Kyle Smith
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

The language support pref panel on my system shows that USA English is
the default for new users and such, but when checking the tooltips in
metacity for the maximize/minimize widgets they show up as Maximise
Window and Minimise Window (the British spelling).

** Affects: metacity (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Untriaged
 Status: Unconfirmed

[Bug 50669] Re: Evolution opens MicroSoft Office .doc files read only

2006-06-24 Thread Thomas Hotz
You are right, these files will be opened read only.

BUT: There is a symbol in the menu and if you click on it a copy of the
file will be created and you can edit the copy. Or you save the file.

I hope this can help you.

I have tested this with AbiWord and with AbiWord you can edit the file.

[Bug 49939] Re: gnome-settings-daemon unable to start on login gnome session

2006-06-24 Thread Hardy Beltran-Monasterios
Finally I find the cause and the solution

Cause: This error hapens when you boot with the old kernel version
(Ubuntu 5.10). The Dapper upgrade process does not do the right update
in the grub configuration file.

Solution: Fix by hand your grub configuration file to be sure to boot
using the right kernel version suitable for Dapper.

Reopening (this source package makes no sense, however...). Legitimate
backport request. The package is in Debian Sid now, so it will probably
be merged when the Edgy build system stabilizes.

[Bug 50783] Re: Gnumeric About box does not appear

2006-06-24 Thread Daniel Robitaille
The about box works for me (but on a i386 architecture).

If you run gnumerics from the command line, then try to select the about
menu option, do you get any error that could explain your problem?
(for reference, when I do that, I get a series of x_order_2: colinear!
warnings in my xterm)
