[Bug 22121] gnome-screensaver does not provide a xscreensaver-command replacement
i agree i was going to post this myself as a bug/missed feature. since we aren't going to use xscreensaver anymore we should have functionality in gnome screensaver that would allow it to detect when a xscreensaver application wants the screensaver not to be disabled (e.g. gmplayer). -- gnome-screensaver does not provide a xscreensaver-command replacement https://launchpad.net/bugs/22121 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 35354] Re: hal does not recognize NTFS-FUSE mounted devices as mounted
I just did an upgrade, and though I've now switched to experimenting with ntfs-3g, the experimental driver which will be merged into ntfs-progs, the problem is the same. What's interesting is, that once I restarted after the upgrade (which included a new kernel), the HAL demon failed to start. All the NTFS partitions showed up on the Deskop and in Places. But after trying sudo dpkg --configure -a and restarting to get HAL working, the next time hald did start and the NTFS partitions had disappeared from the Desktop and places. Places-Computer shows them, but display the above symptom: mount: according to mtab, /dev/hda8 is already mounted on /media/data2 mount failed the partitions are indeed mounted and accessible, but Gnome/HALd doesn't know it. [Bug 31598] Re: delayed mouse button release causes menus to close
Upstream has rejected the bug saying that not a bug, comments from bugzilla: There is not much consistency between menu systems (firefox, oo, different win32 versions, all behave different in detail), so thats not a strong argument. Look at bug 128968 for similar issues, not sure if it is an exact duplicate. Actually, there is. I posted this comment on the original bug : This is not a bug, but a feature ;-) Menu selection can work in two ways : - classic : you click on menu, click on sub-menu and finaly click on the actual submenu item - single click mode, you press the mouse button on the menu, move to the submenu, move to the sub-menu item and only then release the button The choice between the modes is made with the length of the first click. If it is short, classic mode is used. If it is not short, then single click mode is used. This is the same in GTK+, Firefox, even Windows. Closing the distribution task too. [Bug 55401] Files folders don't always show up with Edgy Nautilus
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus This problem seems to work in two ways: Firstly, creating a folder or file appears to do nothing. Secondly, certain files and folders keep disappearing from my home folder (I've noticed this with my 'Videos' folder mostly). Again, Ctrl+H makes it reappear. Hi and thanks for reporting this. As you may understand, there is hardly enough information for us to fix this. Does the screen flicker when you enter the first character of the password? Try doing the following: 1. Wait for the system to boot. When you reach the login screen, hit ctr+alt+f1. A terminal will appear. Log in from there. 2. Follow the instructions on http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash to rebuild gdm with debug symbols. 3. After installing the package you built, do /etc/init.d/gdm stop 4. Follow the steps described here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace 5. Reproduce your problem If all goes well, attach the output of gdb and /var/log/gdm/0.log . [Bug 55406] Re: Kaleo
1.0 Linux is advertised as being resistant to virus's etc, Linux Format who issued the distro advise that linux has never had a successful virus/worm/etc attack, therefore the use of passwords could agueably be redundant. There is no risk while the person is sitting in front of the computer installing the program, with the computer unconnected externally to anything. 2.0 Re http://www.ubuntu.com/community/conduct/, point taken. 3.0 It is curious that a bug which is reported in a number of messages on the web by different people should be rejected. I think it is a great shame because for every bug report there are probably 1000's of people who just give up on linux because the distro just does't work. 4.0 I also tried the distro on a laptop and got the blue screen of death (linux style light blue and no writing) which is also reported by other people. I have other computers so will try linux on them, but as I have said it seems a shame that with the effort being put in that the distro simply doesn't work. 3. It's not much good a bug being reported in a number of messages around the web - developers can hardly go scouring the web for each bug just to see if someone else is experiencing it. There's limited manpower and ~14000 bugs. If developers can't reproduce the bug theirselves then they need people like you to help them so they can get enough information to fix it, could you follow the steps Vassilis outlined above? [Bug 55045] Re: DAAP shares not listed
Default Dapper version of RB. DAAP sharing works perfectly. It is not the problem. Problem is: RB doesn't list any other shares. It does share, but cannot play what others share. -- DAAP shares not listed https://launchpad.net/bugs/55045 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 49522] Re: Can't play free format MP3
What you mean with works for me like a charm? It sounds good for you? I have tried in three different computers (two AMD desktop systems and a old pentium III laptop with Xubuntu) and it sound horrible, with very weird noises. When I play it using mpg321 (instead of a gstremer based player), it sound *completely* different, without any weird artifacts. -- Can't play free format MP3 https://launchpad.net/bugs/49522 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
