[Bug 22121] gnome-screensaver does not provide a xscreensaver-command replacement

2006-08-06 Thread -JojoMan-
i agree i was going to post this myself as a bug/missed feature. since
we aren't going to use xscreensaver anymore we should have functionality
in gnome screensaver that would allow it to detect when a xscreensaver
application wants the screensaver not to be disabled (e.g. gmplayer).

[Bug 35354] Re: hal does not recognize NTFS-FUSE mounted devices as mounted

2006-08-06 Thread Martin Andersen
I just did an upgrade, and though I've now switched to experimenting with
ntfs-3g, the experimental driver which will be merged into ntfs-progs, the
problem is the same. What's interesting is, that once I restarted after the
upgrade (which included a new kernel), the HAL demon failed to start. All the
NTFS partitions showed up on the Deskop and in Places. But after trying sudo
dpkg --configure -a and restarting to get HAL working, the next time hald did
start and the NTFS partitions had disappeared from the Desktop and places.
Places-Computer shows them, but display the above symptom:
mount: according to mtab, /dev/hda8 is already mounted on /media/data2

mount failed
the partitions are indeed mounted and accessible, but Gnome/HALd doesn't know
it.
It is being discussed here:

[Bug 31598] Re: delayed mouse button release causes menus to close

2006-08-06 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Upstream has rejected the bug saying that not a bug, comments from
bugzilla:

There is not much consistency between menu systems (firefox, oo, different
win32 versions, all behave different in detail), so thats not a strong
argument.

Look at bug 128968 for similar issues, not sure if it is an exact
duplicate.

Actually, there is. I posted this comment on the original bug :

This is not a bug, but a feature ;-)

Menu selection can work in two ways :
 - classic : you click on menu, click on sub-menu and finaly click on the
actual submenu item
 - single click mode, you press the mouse button on the menu, move to the
submenu, move to the sub-menu item and only then release the button

The choice between the modes is made with the length of the first click. If it
is short, classic mode is used. If it is not short, then single click mode
is used.

This is the same in GTK+, Firefox, even Windows.

Closing the distribution task too. Feel free to argue upstream if you disagree

[Bug 55380] Yelp's Print dialog has a Create a PDF option that doesn't work

[Bug 30249] Re: Unable to play from multiple sources with USB sound device

2006-08-06 Thread Dean Sas
This may be related to bug 22488 which says

ESD can not be used for full-duplex audio and is in general of very bad quality
when being used for anything else than playback. That is why there is no ESD
support in GnomeMeeting and there will never be.

If you want to use other programs at the same time than GnomeMeeting, you have
to configure your DEFAULT ALSA device to use DMIX. ESD will use DMIX, and
GnomeMeeting will use DMIX, and everything will be transparently mixed.

Rejecting as esd support is a wishlist that upstream isn't willing to
implement.

[Bug 55401] Files folders don't always show up with Edgy Nautilus

2006-08-06 Thread Paul Nolan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

This problem seems to work in two ways:

Firstly, creating a folder or file appears to do nothing. The folder/file has
actually been created, it's just invisible. Pressing Ctrl+H makes it appear.
Secondly, certain files and folders keep disappearing from my home folder (I've
noticed this with my 'Videos' folder mostly). Again, Ctrl+H makes it reappear.

Pressing Ctrl+H to re-hide hidden files doesn't make the files/folders
disappear again (so it looks like Nautilus is having a problem
refreshing itself).

It occurs with both the spatial and the browser interfaces.

[Bug 55406] ubuntu 6.06, Correct password fails causes running of program to loop back to password screen

2006-08-06 Thread Vassilis Pandis
Hi and thanks for reporting this. As you may understand, there is hardly
enough information for us to fix this. Does the screen flicker when you
enter the first character of the password? Try doing the following:

1. Wait for the system to boot. When you reach the login screen, hit
ctr+alt+f1. A terminal will appear. Log in from there.

2. Follow the instructions on
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash to rebuild gdm with debug
symbols.

3. After installing the package you built, do /etc/init.d/gdm stop

4. Follow the steps described here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace

5. Reproduce your problem

If all goes well, attach the output of gdb and /var/log/gdm/0.log .
Thanks

[Bug 55406] Re: Kaleo

2006-08-06 Thread KISS
1.0 Linux is advertised as being resistant to virus's etc, Linux Format
who issued the distro advise that linux has never had a successful
virus/worm/etc attack, therefore the use of passwords could agueably be
redundant. As I stated it would be better to add the password (if you
really need it) after the program is running. There is no risk while
the person is sitting in front of the computer installing the program,
with the computer unconnected externally to anything.

2.0 Re http://www.ubuntu.com/community/conduct/, point taken.

3.0 It is curious that a bug which is reported in a number of messages
on the web by different people should be rejected. I think it is a
great shame because for every bug report there are probably 1000's of
people who just give up on linux because the distro just does't work.

4.0 I also tried the distro on a laptop and got the blue screen of
death (linux style light blue and no writing) which is also reported by
other people. I have other computers so will try linux on them, but as
I have said it seems a shame that with the effort being put in that the
distro simply doesn't work.

Regards KIS,
(Keep It Simple)

3. It's not much good a bug being reported in a number of messages
around the web - developers can hardly go scouring the web for each bug
just to see if someone else is experiencing it. There's limited manpower
and ~14000 bugs.

If developers can't reproduce the bug theirselves then they need people
like you to help them so they can get enough information to fix it,
could you follow the steps Vassilis outlined above? The sooner someone
does, the sooner the problem can be fixed.

4. Report the bug (if it's not on this website already) in a new bug

I confirm that activating dapper-updates for universe solves the problem,

I still believe we have a minor issue here:
packages in main should not depend on packages from universe. I suggest to
remove the totem dependency on totem-xine or remove the totem meta-package in

to reproduce this

** Summary changed:

- Opening a file causes totem to crash
+ libxine crashes with broken user settings

** Description changed:

- This is just a copy of the report I filed using BugBuddy, along with the
- stacktrace. A link to the file that is causing totem to crash is
- available (it's 38.6 megs big, and is a screencapture from a video
- game).
-
- Description of the crash:
-
- Opening a video by launching it from the desktop or via nautilus crashes
- totem. The sound continues to play for a few seconds thereafter.
-
- Steps to reproduce the crash:
- 1. Click on file.
- 2. Totem launches and crashes.
- 3. There is no step three.
-
- Expected Results:
-
- The file plays as normal. This didn't happen until a couple of days
- ago, and I will also report the bug to Ubuntu's Malone.
-
- How often does this happen?
-
- Every time.
-
- Additional Information:
-
- The video that I'm using is available here:
-
- It doesn't crash when I run totem from the terminal.
-
- The file is 38.6 MB, with a md5 hash of b4094ec97bee2b0f1ed6dd0c6a0db958
-
-
-
- Here's the stacktrace:
-
- Backtrace was generated from '/usr/bin/totem'
-

[Bug 44874] Re: auto smbfs mount in /etc/fstab causes hald hang at boot

2006-08-06 Thread floris65
One month later and still no solution, or at least, not a permanent one.
I have this same annoying bug (Failed to initialize HAL after adding
smbfs share to /etc/fstab), however only when I boot with kernel
2.6.15-26-386. Booting with a previous version of the kernel,
2.6.15-23-386, everything is working fine. I would say: Devs hop to
it!.

[Bug 55278] Re: Nautilus crashes on folder with many thousands of files

2006-08-06 Thread jdo
Unable to repeat the crash.

I created as many as 10 (hundred-thousand) files, and tried opening,
selecting, icon view, list view, strange file names, text and non-text
contents, etc. but nautilus (the normal version, not the debug version)
performed okay.

Perhaps the names of the files, or the contents of the files has
something to do with it. But I don't have my original files anymore, and
those files caused a crash every time.

Perhaps this bug can be suspended or closed (for now).

kind regards,
jdo

I don't think so but my half-solution plus that wish (bug #22876) equal
this problem is fixed the ugly way : I think the problem is that the

[Bug 55424] [dapper] Sound recorder creates duplicate items in the Record from input dropdown

2006-08-06 Thread Ashish Kulkarni
Public bug reported:

Dapper 6.06 AMD64

Package Version: gnome-media 2.14.2-0ubuntu1

Sound recorder creates duplicate entries for all sources in the Record
from input dropdown.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Start sound recorder
2. Select any input
3. Click on record, wait a few seconds and then click on stop
4. Observe that dropdown list is OK
5. Click on record, wait a few seconds and then click on stop
6. The dropdown list has duplicate items for all sources.

This is probably because the dropdown needs to be cleared before adding
the sources to it.
