[Bug 56884] User interface improvement suggestion

2006-08-19 Thread spiregrain
Public bug reported:

I'm listening to a tune right now from a compilation. The top line
reads:

E102-2 from [Big Songs for Short Attention Spans] by [BMX Bandits]

Thing is, sometimes the Artist is not the same for every track. I

[Bug 56884] Re: [Bug 56884] Re: User interface improvement suggestion

2006-08-19 Thread spiregrain
Thanks for getting back to me.

The current situation is that it says Song from Album by Artist.
The song will always be by the artist; but if the album is a
compilation, it's wrong to say the albumn is by the artist.

My suggestion is to say Song by Artist from Album. Then if the
albumn is 100 Best Rock Classics Volume 1, you only give Starship
credit for We Built This City and not for the whole album.

Hope this helps,

Ken

[Bug 56289] Re: Gnome window list causes gnome-panel to eat all CPU

2006-08-19 Thread Aleksander Kamil Modzelewski
There's only one thread in gnome-panel. I have identified gnome-panel as
the exact program, but it's the window list applet that causes the
slowdown [disabling it causes the problem to go away]. I attached a gdb
session to it and made several backtraces while the gnome-panel got
slow. A new note: the cpu usage goes up only when switching
workspaces/iconyfing some window/otherwise changing the appearance of
the window-list. On other times the whole panel works ok. Applets
working in separate instances (i.e. Tomboy) are not affected at all, but
applets working inside gnome-panel process, like the gnome-menu, (I
don't know the exact architecture, just noticed that some applets have
their own processes, so sorry for inprecise wording) are all blocked of
course.

I have attached the backtraces with some annotation.

[Bug 56487] Re: [2.0beta3] Gaim crash when i search buddy

I think this shouldn't be marked as fixed until its confirmed on Edgy
build. Gaim SVN is very active, but no sings of new beta release yet.

I have not been able to duplicate this on Dapper 6.10.1 with totem-
gstreamer or totem-xine. I guess it has been resolved.

[Bug 56939] Re: can't install in dapper

2006-08-19 Thread Mark Reitblatt
I have a problem installing libsdl1.2-dev, but not the one you have. The
problem seems to come from some strange dependency problem with libgl1
-mesa-dev and libglu1-mesa-dev.

The following packages have unmet dependencies.
  libglu1-mesa-dev: Depends: libglu1-mesa (= 6.4.1-0ubuntu8) but
6.5.1-0ubuntu10 is to be installed
Depends: libgl1-mesa-dev but it is not going to be
installedor
 libgl-dev

I didn't mark it Fix Released, only Fix Committed. Is that
incorrect?

Also, a new beta should be released shortly.

[Bug 56956] Gnome cups manager destroy my config

2006-08-19 Thread Étienne Bersac
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-cups-manager

Hello,

In order to have SANE hpaio backend correctly probe the my networked HP
printer, i have to configure the printer with the DeviceURI set to hp-
makeuri 192.168.X.Y result. e.g. i have an OfficeJet 7140xi networked
device. I set DeviceURI in /etc/cups/printers.conf to
hp:/net/officejet_7100_series?ip=192.168.0.2 . But if i open gnome-cups-
manager, the device URI is set to
ipp://hp:/net/officejet_7100_series%3Fip%3D192.168.0.2 .That end to an
unusable device with sane.

gnome-cups-manager must be able to handle hp or manual device UI. A
wrapper to hp-makeuri would be nice.

Also, gnome-cups-manager is very very slow.

Étienne.

[Bug 56939] Re: can't install in dapper

2006-08-19 Thread Edm00se
I wound up being able to install libsdl1.2-dev when instead of using
apt-get to install it, I used aptitude.

So:
sudo apt-get install libsdl1.2-dev
wasn't working but what did was:
sudo aptitude install libsdl1.2-dev

[Bug 38181] Re: Screensaver freezes on Dapper (ATI Radeon 8500 LE)

2006-08-19 Thread Paul Drain
For those on i386 machines, do the binaries mentioned at:
http://64.71.152.24/ make any difference -- running any GL based screensaver
used to lock up my ATI boxes solid.

Using a non-GL screensaver (like gnome feet) used to delay the problem,
but using Mozilla after the tenth tab, or any use of Evolution for that
matter used to kill it.

With the binaries mentioned on that webpage, i've not had a lockup using
Dapper for over three weeks (as opposed to 2-4 hours without them, or
whenever the screensaver kicked in.)

[Bug 56957] adding a windows printer in a large network is painful

2006-08-19 Thread chesty
Public bug reported:

When there are 1000s of hosts, fiinding the right print server takes
ages in the drop down list. Typing the print servers name in the host
field doesn't work, it doesn't list the servers printers in the printer
field, whereas if you find the server in the host drop down list, and
click it, it does list it's printers.

To make matters worse, bug 32112 makes it almost impossible to find the
server in time.

Every few seconds, a popup asks me to authenticate to a domain, there
appears to be a never ending stream of popups on this network, and I'm
only interested in authenticating to one domain. Each time a popup
occurs, it closes the host drop down list, making it very difficult to
scan through the 1000s of hosts to find the right print server, I get
part way through the lists of hosts, a popup interrupts me and closes
the drop down list, making me start from the top of the host list again.
