[Bug 58129] Re: gaim 2.0 missing Sametime protocol

2006-08-30 Thread Richard Laager
Yes, gaim is the source package. To produce a gaim-meanwhile binary
package in addition to a gaim binary package, the gaim source
package would need to have Build-Depends: libmeanwhile. libmeanwhile
(or whatever it's called) is in universe, and packages in main can't
depend on packages in universe, so if that includes Build-Depends (which
I bet it does), then separating the packages doesn't help.

I was referring to have the same source tarball (gaim-2.0.0beta3.1) be
used by two source packages (gaim and gaim-meanwhile) which would
produce two binary packages (of the same names, respectively).

[Bug 48409] Re: [Bug 48409] Re: Dictionary; some problem with data conversion

2006-08-30 Thread psl
Sebastian,

I understand that source of the problem is at server side, it sends data those
are not in UTF encoding. This is first part of issue. Dictionary could add
support for other encodings; This is probably not easy.

The second part is why Dictionary is demaged by such data. It should survive
unexpected data attack, it could possibly print an error message like sorry,
I cannot display this garbage as I don't understand this format. This is easy
from my point of view.

With regards,
Petr

Normally i use focus follows mouse but i tried with other focus modes
too and it appears to be consistent with other focus modes too. (i'll
get the exact values for you later)

How do you toggle windows? With the tasks list? Or by clicking?

It would appear that it makes no difference how you toggle the windows.
I was able to reproduce this with clicking with mouse and by using
alt-tab. I didn't try toggling from the panel.

thanks a lot for pointing out. I wonder why it wasn't on the GNOME

Panel now stays unhidden until I push the cursor in and out again.

What should happen:
Panel should hide when the context menu closes.

According to Gnome Bugzilla, this bug has been around since February
2004 (Gnome 2.4!) and has never been fixed. I find it highly annoying...

[Bug 58179] Doesn't autohide on context menu close

2006-08-30 Thread Sebastian Breier
Public bug reported:

I have the regular Ubuntu panels. I set both of them to autohide.

However, they stay unhidden when I do the following:
1. Move cursor over panel item
2. right-click (or left-click, depending on item) to open a context menu
3. Move cursor out of panel and context menu
4. Click to close context menu

What happens:
Panel now stays unhidden until I push the cursor in and out again.

What should happen:

I don't know what you intend to do. Ekiga 2.0.2 is not target for
dapper-updates - it requires new libraries which require other packages
to be rebuilt etc. I had bizarre crashes when using ekiga 2.0.1 with a
newer libpt. We can't afford something like this to happen in stable

It's hard to take a screenshot of it as the only visual indication is
the cursor in gnome-terminal (in other apps it will just appear as
missing cursor)

It's not gnome-terminal specific, just a minute ago it appeared with
gajim and now it appeared with firefox.

Oh and correction to my previous entry, alt-tab doesn't break. Things

[Bug 58205] Should provide Right-Click-Format...

Public bug reported:

Ubuntu users 'nautilus' to display the file-managing part of the
desktop; when a external (eg. USB) hard disk has been mounted on the
desktop after insertion, there is no easy visible way to reformat the
drive.

Obvious places would be:

  Places-Computer-Right Click-Format...

[Bug 56912] Re: Impossible to configure more the 4 keyboard layouts

2006-08-30 Thread Aigars Mahinovs
http://community.livejournal.com/xkbconfig/304.html has the latest instance of
the discussion.
The thing is that the keyboard layout configuration was rewriten and features
were lost in the name of some tiny bit of efficiency. FWIW the keyboard layout
switching in early versions of Gnome 2 and now in KDE have no significant speed
difference to the current Gnome variant, but allow more then 4 languages.
Now it has come to a point where users that need more then 4 languages (or even
just think that they might need more then 4 languages sometime in the future)
are forced not to use Linux (or to use KDE if they are sufficiently advanced).
The 4 language limit is a design choice that restricts the number of
configurable layouts to a fixed arbitrary limit. Some users do need more then
that or know/feel that they will need that in the future, for example, people
working at multinational companies or international charities, as well as
translators that know more then a few languages. I know 5 lanuages and am
trying to learn a 6th. With the world going multicultural such diversity will
only increase, while Gnome will be stuck at 4.

[Bug 58210] Unable to add tasks in calendar, get invalid time value when clicking save

2006-08-30 Thread PAN007
Public bug reported:

Version: 2.6.1-0ubuntu7 / Dapper
Problem: When adding a task in the calendar I get a dialog invalid time value
when clicking save. I have indeed chosen a time in the drop-down box (for
instance 09:30). After clicking OK in the invalid time value dialog it
reappears together with another dialog with the message: Validation error: the
starttime is wrong (translated from the error message that is in norwegian).

A google search:

http://www.mail-archive.com/evolution-list@gnome.org/msg04216.html

In my case the time values always show up as hh:mm and changing the
format to anything I can think of does not help (hh.mm, hh;mm, etc).

I have tried with a fresh $HOME/.evolution without sucess (it was a
totally new user account with no custom configuration).

I'm on x86.
Check the screenshot for the background I use. ( first post )
I just use the background image of my GTK theme, same as in dapper where it
works.
The bug is still present.
It doesn't happen with other apps.

I use the edgy-default-gaim. which is gaim2b3 if I'm correct ?

This is due to the metacity change from

[Bug 58141] Re: [Bug 58141] Re: Evince cannot display ps file

2006-08-30 Thread psl
Sebastien,

I tried it on two different PCs. I installed on one of them gs-gpl and after
that I was able to see ps document.

I report this as I miss error message in Evince that something is wrong.
Without message it is difficult for unexperienced user to fix it (like
instaling some missing gs package). I reported the bug as I am not happy that
Evince only prints Loading

I don't know what is real problem; it could be mising dependency, or maybe
that my sample postrcript file was corrupted/incorrect. I am not expert on
this, developers should understand what is real issue and what is the best
workarround/fix.

From the point of desktop user I miss information from Evince that something
is wrong and document cannot be presented.

Thanks for your help,
Petr

[Bug 58141] Re: [Bug 58141] Re: Evince cannot display ps file

2006-08-30 Thread psl
Sebastien,

try to display barcodewriter.ps document. I guess that your error example is
from sample.ps.

I am not sure how postrcript works but you can get valid document when you
merge barcode.ps and sample.ps; sample.ps uses some definitions from
barcode.ps.

I got the same error as you when I tried ps2pdf on sample.ps. After merge
barcode.ps with sample.ps to the new document, ps2pdf generated pdf for me.

ps2pdf barcodewriter.ps works fine, it is valid postsrcipt file.

Try to display barcodewriter.ps in Evince. Try to remove gs interpreter from
your test PC and try again. After that try to display simple postscript
sample.

With regards,
Petr

[Bug 58215] Evolution's compose mail window doesn't allow standard Linux copy from in any address fields

2006-08-30 Thread Jim Jones
Public bug reported:

When using Evolution, the compose mail window doesn't allow a standard
Linux copy operation where the user highlights text in any of the
address fields in the Compose Message window and then uses the middle
mouse button (or chorded left and right mouse buttons) to paste anywhere
else.

Steps to repeat.

1. Launch Evolution

2. Click File - New - Message

3. In the Compose Mail window, click View - Reply-To Field

4. You should now see a Reply-To field in the Compose Message window.

5. For the purposes for this test type [EMAIL PROTECTED] (or any
address, in any of the address fields of the Compose Message window . I
will do it in the Reply-To field, but it affects them all.

6. Use the mouse to highlight the address.

7. Place the cursor in any other field in the compose window including
the message field, or even open up gedit and place the cursor there.

8. Now use the middle button (or chord click the right and left mouse
button to paste).

9. Nothing happens.

10. Now try highlighting the address again, this time copy it with
Ctrl-C on the keyboard.

11. Place the cursor in any other field (or gedit) and use Ctrl-V to
paste with your keyboard.

12. It works.

The odd thing is that this only affects the copy operation from the
address fields. You can type an address (or anything really) in the
Subject or Message compose section of the Compose Message window and
then Linux copy from them to any of the address fields. You just can't

The inconsistency of the behavior is the annoying part and makes it

Option XAANoOffscreenPixmaps

This is on a 32mb 9200mobility card running Dapper. I don't know if
it's related, but I also see 3D rendering errors which go away if I
disable most of the DRI acceleration options - I'm only mentioning this
in case they are somehow related.

Thanks for looking at this problem!
