[Bug 35324] Upgrade Breezy to D5: menu à l a carte, restricted access

2006-10-13 Thread gerard
Public bug reported:

Hi

I upgraded from Breezy to Dapper Flight 5 and, from menu à la carte, I
cannot access the 2 first items of System menu: preference and admin
(I'm not sure about the wording, because, as I said in another bug
report, some icons come with no text).

This means I cannot select what I want in these 2 major menus.

[Bug 57568] Re: Cannot play the default radio stations

2006-10-13 Thread istoyanov
I can confirm this bug on an up-to-date Dapper Drake system. The only
difference from the already reported problem is that I finally get a
dialog window, with some strange text along unknown playback error,
that I cannot close. The main rhythmbox window also doesn't respond and
I have to kill the application forcefully.

[Bug 60755] Re: New .lang file for DocBook

2006-10-13 Thread Joachim Noreiko
I see your point -- the change from the xml highlighter to this one will feel
like a partial regression if a user has the more obscure tags in documents.
I've tried throwing a few large DocBook files at the second, complete, lang
file, and I'm not noticing a difference in speed. Perhaps the first time I'd
made mistakes in my lang file.

[Bug 44196] Re: gnome-cups-icon uses 100% CPU

2006-10-13 Thread Johnathon
Hi,

We really could use a fix for this one: it is grabbing 1/4 of the
processing power on our customers application server, and putting load
up to 25. It is effectivly limiting the number of users we can deploy
onto that server to ~20, instead of 30+.

We are planning to put a load balancer / failover system in, which (for
the short term at least) would solve it, but thats Phase 2 of the
install, and we're still completing Phase 1.

Realisticaly, we can't move this system from Dapper to Edgy, as it is
critical to their buisness, it needs to be on the more stable platform.

Thanks,
Johnathon

[Bug 65857] Re: Change Help menu link to help.ubuntu.com

2006-10-13 Thread Matthew East
Hi Daniel,

I have added the book to my local version of help.ubuntu.com/6.06. I
will give my local copy to Matthew Nuzum to upload to the website when
all the translations of the 6.10 documentation are in and built as HTML.

How are we to proceed with the help menu? I think that since the link to
the book is in the help website, and the link to the help website is
under System-Help-Online Documentation, there is no need for a
separate link to System-Help-Book Excerpts (as I stated in my email to
the -devel list).

[Bug 65862] Re: evince is memory hungry

2006-10-13 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks for your bug. Top and ps are not revelant to have a good memory
usage approximation, pmap on edgy show 23M of memory usage, gnome-
system-monitor shows 15M of writable memory used. Most of those 140m you
mention are shared libraries which should not be counted for the
application since you use them as soon as you use a GNOME application
anyway. Marking the bug as rejected, the 15-20m usage doesn't seem
excessive to load the document

[Bug 65897] Redundant widescreen wallpaper in the package

2006-10-13 Thread Johan Kiviniemi
Public bug reported:

The reverted package contains following images:
warty-final-ubuntu.png: 1600×1200, 1.6 MiB
warty-final-ws-ubuntu.png: 1600×1000, 1.3 MiB

The smaller one is simply a cropped version of the larger one.

The smaller one should be removed and
/usr/share/gnome-background-properties/ubuntu-wallpapers.xml should be modified
from
filename/usr/share/backgrounds/warty-final-ubuntu.png/filename
optionsstretched/options
to
filename/usr/share/backgrounds/warty-final-ubuntu.png/filename
optionszoom/options

That makes Gnome automatically crop the image as needed to fit the
screen's aspect ratio.

In addition to making the package smaller in size and removing the need
for widescreen users to manually change the wallpaper, it also fixes the
related bug #45385.

[Bug 65690] Re: should select the esdsink for LTSP_CLIENTs

2006-10-13 Thread Martin Pitt
For the record: Edgy's version caches the registered plugins and their
ranks in ~/.gstreamer-0.10/registry*.xml, thus the registration
functions are not even called if it's cached and the dynamic rank
registration does not become active.

Clean solution: Subclass a new ltspesdsink with a high rank and leave
the esdsink with a static lower rank. Mostly copypaste work, but a bit
intrusive.

Hack solution: Remove the cache in an edubuntu ltsp session script.

[Bug 65574] Re: [edgy] middle clicking doesn't close menu

2006-10-13 Thread Amnon A
Sebastien: is the panel locked down? In that case the bug won't work.

I've found the source of the bug -- when you press the middle mouse
button the program attempts to begin a drag instead of handling the
press as usual. The attached patch fixes this (I hope). Some things I
suggest checking, assuming that the patch is accepted:

* is there a better way to detect if a menu is open other than detecting
a grab

* is the comment accurate (is there a grab only if a menu is open)

* is there a named constant that can be used instead of 2 to refer to
the middle mouse button, to make the code self-documenting.

[Bug 65937] start osk at login only works with at-spi on in gnome-at-properties

2006-10-13 Thread Chris Jones
Public bug reported:

It is possible to tick the start on-screen keyboard at login box without
the Enable assistive technologies button checked.

However, the osk will only be launched at login when the assistive
technologies button is checked.

One fix would be to put the .desktop file for the osk in
.config/autostart instead of adding it's name to the exec_ats list in
gconf.

A simpler work-around would be to gray out the start osk at login box
when the enable AT box is not checked. Neither gok nor onboard however
need at-spi to run.

[Bug 37913] Re: mispositionned focus in unlocking screensaver dialog box

2006-10-13 Thread drberg1000
On Dapper I found that I had gotten in the bad habit of using the down
arrow key to wake the computer. This had the effect of moving the focus
out of the text box. If I used shift or started typing the password it
worked fine.

I notice on edgy that the arrow key doesn't change the focus until the
window is displayed.

[Bug 65920] Re: gnome accessibility: Messes up keyboard

2006-10-13 Thread Henrik Nilsen Omma
I see the same thing on Edgy (near RC). It's the slow keys dialog that
does it. I have sticky keys enabled and when I open Gedit after this
dialog pops up I am not able to type into it before it's closed.

I agree that these dialogs are generally bad and need to be redesigned.
I'll spec it up for Edgy+1.

[Bug 59543] Unicode keyboard entry does not work in multiple applications

2006-10-13 Thread Michael Trausch
Public bug reported:

(Rewritten to be more accurate)

In Edgy, it seems that entering Unicode characters directly using their
code points (e.g., Control+Shift+u) does not work for xterm or
emacs-snapshot-gtk. I can almost see it for xterm, because that is not
a GNOME application, but emacs-snapshot-gtk integrates pretty well and
it would seem that I should be able to insert characters like “ and ”
into it without issue.

In either application, when I press Control+Shift+u, I get a system
beep, and future numeric keypresses are registered as Shift+number. For
example, when I type the sequence to get — (the em dash) in xterm or
emacs, I get instead “)!$”.
