[Bug 70026] Can't browse LDAP directory, yet autocompletion works fine
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I've got slapd running on my server. I'm able to feed it with some data, get those data back using ldapsearch and browse my directory with gq. So I suppose there's everything ok with slapd settings. When I add this LDAP directory to Evolution as a new source of data for autocompletion, it works as expected: when I type names/emails into To/Cc/Bcc fields, I'm provided with personal data in LDAP directory. BUT when I select this LDAP directory to see all contacts within it (including photos), I can't see anything. (Does this description suffice or I should give you more details?) ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Can't browse LDAP directory, yet autocompletion works fine https://launchpad.net/bugs/70026 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Hmm, that's interesting. Our conversation widget inherits from GtkTextView, so it seems like we should just inherit the font from that. Unless we're overriding it or something. [Bug 69949] Re: SystemToolsBackends seems to be in busy loop
Hi, after re-starting the above-cited script I get the enclosed report (a bit lengthy :-). Then I try to start network-admin again from the gnome system administration desktop menu (network-manager version = 0.6.3-2ubuntu6), which results in a high cpu activity caued by the process executing the SystemToolsBackends script. Such situations are typically caued by an errorneous program executing a never-ending loop without any io activity, i.e. doing nothing meaningful. That's what is normally called a busy loop. By contrast, executing network-admin without the SystemToolsBackends script started results in the exspected behavior. Cheers, Wingard. [Bug 35112] Re: MP3 track times are incorrect
Same problem here. Ubuntu 6.06.1, libgstlame 0.10.3, sound-juicer 2.14.4, rhythmbox 0.9.4.1 For me, using the xingmux-plugin it works in xmms, but still not in rhythmbox. By chance, I seem to have found a solution that works (at least for me), though: The gst-lame documentation (gst-inspect-0.10 lame) lists a xingheader option, but states that it is broken, and one is to use xingmux instead. I still tried it, and lo! It works! The pipeline I used is: audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2!lame name=enc preset=1001, xingheader ! id3v2mux With this, track-lengths are displayed correctly in nautilus, xmms and rhythmbox, and seeking in the files works as expected. -- MP3 track times are incorrect https://launchpad.net/bugs/35112 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 67201] Re: [network-admin] network preferences gone after dapper - edgy upgrade
FYI, when I tried a system upgrade from 6.06 LTS to 6.10, the Wireless card in a desktop box, which is recognised as such in dapper's Network Manager, changed to an 'ethernet' card in edgy's Network Manager, so connectivity was lost. I was unable to set ESSID or WAP key. I reinstalled 6.06 LTS, and re-established connectivity. On Edgy's official release, I downloaded the desktop iso and tried again. Running from the CD, in the Network Manager window, there are two NICs shown. Both icons are 'wired' devices, one is called wlan0, and the other eth0. So I'm still unable to configure the wireless interface. Re: [Bug 32977] Re: no ability to configure the different screensavers
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 22007 *** Which windows was that? on my win-xp I could configure screen saver settings from my unprivileged account by default. I didn't even know it could be restricted without adding external software packages, as I know was required in earlier windows versions. I think you must have selected something in windows to restrict the screen savers. Now, true, unprivileged users cannot install NEW screen savers, but that is not what was being discussed, the problem report is only about changing options on screen savers that come on the ubuntu install CD. Anyway, I don't care what the default is, I just want it to be EASY to allow freedom to change settings. If the default is no change allowed, but I can go in as root and check a box somewhere that allows changing settings, I would be happy. I have done the work around and it is messy. You have to edit config files by hand to disable the gnome screen saver, then install xscreensaver, and even then you LOSE functionality (password locking of screen and/or hibernate, which I don't have to have so I do do without). Even if configuring was restricted to root that would be acceptable to me. But the only configuring that can be done on a default ubuntu system is by manually editing the individual screen saver config files. And, i presume, kill and restart the daemon, since there was no change when I didn't do that. Anything that requires vi or even gedit is *NOT* easy, and even gedit didn't work for me except by the special first userid (which I put aside and don't use as I think it has special privileges like root) unless something is done to manually configure the display. When I attempted to do that, I used vi. Also, one final nit, the gnome screen saver doesn't have most of the favorite themes that I liked in xscreensaver, and, in general, has more the feel of a windows screen saver to me, and i want to be as different as possible. If Ubuntu wants to change the default for screen savers that grab photos to NOT grab them from the web, to avoid a risk of porn, I would support that. That was an unlikely, but reasonable concern about locking down screen saver configuring (NOT including installing new ones). And I never said there weren't control freaks in Linux, just that in Windows there were FAR MORE. Sam Liddicott wrote: *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 22007 *** * Carey Schug wrote, On 03/11/06 03:49: *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 22007 *** I know in the windows world that system administrators are usually control freaks that micromanage what users can do. But the FREE in free software means that far more Linux users expect freedom. It is not logical that in windows world the default is freedom and system changes must be made to add controls, but that in a Linux world the default is control, and one must go find feedom with no help. At least make it easy to return to the old xscreensaver or gnome one that is equivalent.
