[Bug 73059] Re: Rhythmbox crashes when changing burning device

2006-11-24 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Unfortunately, we are
not able to fix and find the bug because your description of the bug
didn't have enough information in it. You may find it helpful to read
How to report bugs effectively,
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html.
We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description
of the problem.

Debugging procedures for certain types of problems can be found at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

You probably want to describe what version of Ubuntu you use and get a
backtrace of the crash (http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash)

i´ve installed gaim-dbg, but there is no readme.txt or so, which
describe what schould i do now... if it´s difficult maybe you know

 ok, too...
by the way, I know the translation of coredump but i´ve no idea
about the correct meaning... I´m not an IT spezialist, but i hope i can
 help...

Nothing special to do, just wait to get the crash and attach the new
crash file to the bug.

The backtrace (the functions listed by your bug) lacked details, they
will have them once that package is installed

The coredump is a binary which contains details of the crash and can be
used by the debug. Apport gives you the option to attach it to the bug
or to use a light version (what you attached to the bug apparently).

I didn't understand that at all: uses the browser selected to the

system, preferences, preferred applications from the panel menu,
that's the capplet you use to select the default browser for GNOME. The
GNOME applications do not use sensible browser, they use that setting
(which is stored to gconf /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http/command
key)

On a fairly vanilla install of Ubuntu 6.10 that has not mucked with any
browser settings, an extra installed browser rudely changes my desktop
settings behind my back with no explanation and not even telling me how
 to revert.

Again, sensible-browser is not a desktop setting and the GNOME default
is not changed without asking you

2) Yes, i'm using fullscreen mode. (initated by pressing F when in normal mode)

And BTW, thanks for making space work as a pause key, all these years

[Bug 69297] Re: Gaim crashed on startup

2006-11-24 Thread elektronaut
I've experienced the same behaviour. Not sure if it's exactly the same
error, as I'm not used to read core dumps. I hope this is the right
thread, as you can find a couple if you search for startup. Gaim was
running on system shutdown, on startup i got the crash report. No skype
here. What was a bit weird: First startup didn't work, the system seemed
to be frozen. I had to push the power button, even Ctrl-Alt-SysReq +
RSEIUB didn't work. But that might not be related.

it happens with *any* video and *any* external subtitles (srt, sub, etc).

but, I attach an example. it's a mov video with standard iso-8859-1
subtitles. it has only 3 minutes, so in totem use shift+arrow keys in
order not to seek to far. seek forward and/or backwards many times,
after few seconds gui will freeze.

[Bug 73117] nautilus

2006-11-24 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

If I set Nautilus' browser mode as default, both open and browse the
folder right-click menu items do the same thing: open the folder in
browser mode.

I can come up with two possible solutions to this faulty behaviour:

1- make open option open the folder in spatial mode. This would be
suboptimal, since if I remember correctly Gnome states that the first
option in a right-click menu must be the default action - in this case,
browse the folder.

2- show open in spatial mode as a second option, instead of browse
the folder. I don't know if Nautilus can detect the browse mode and
change the right-click menu based on it, would it be feasible at all?

[Bug 73124] image collection should be on the left side not bottom.

2006-11-24 Thread Trouilliez vincent
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

When I display the image collection pane, it shows up at the bottom of
the window. Usability wise I found it quite bad, I find the more usual
arrangment of having it vertically on the left, causes less eye strain,
it's more confortable.

Also, having the thumbnails at the bottom, wastes a lot of vertical space,
which causes the selected picture to be displayed significantly smaller than it
could, were the list on the left side instead
This is even more true with modern wide screen monitors, where vertical
space is even more limited, compared to 4/3 monitors of the same diagonal.

[Bug 73125] selection pattern and *

2006-11-24 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Hi. Every time I launch the selection pattern through ctrl+s, I'm
interested in selecting a pattern CONTAINED in the file's name. Almost
100% of the times I've done it I've had to add an asterisk at the start
of the pattern, and one at the end.

Could the selection pattern tool look for filenames CONTAINING the
input, and not only equaling it? That would make my life easier.

Thanks,

[Bug 73128] Podcast: automatic download should not require user intervention.

2006-11-24 Thread Trouilliez vincent
Public bug reported:

I have subscribed to a dozen or so radio/adio podcasts, so I set RB to check
and download new podcasts automatically, every hour.
The problem is that (probably partly due to my crappy ISP), RB regularly has
some of problem with some podcast or another, and that everytime, it pops up an
error window to tell me about it. Thing is, in praitce I get these windows very
often, sometimes if I leave the computer unattended or a few hours or half a
day, there are a dozen windows I must close one by one, when I come back !

Basically, all these error windows do more harm than good :

1) they interrupt my work randomly
2) I can't do anything about the problem anyway, and can only click the ok
button t make it go away
3) the problem is always temporary, and if I update manually, the problem has
already cured itself.

This is the way I would expect RB to behave:

- When set for automatic downloads : never require user input, no pop up
messages. If an error occurs, just try again 5 minutes later, most of the time
it will suffice. The error should on ly be notified by an error icon in nex
to the podcast (as is already the case), and cleared once the problem is gone.
Addictionnaly, if RB deems it worthwhile to inform the user of an error, it can
just use the notification area, using a bubble. This way the user can see the
information, but is not too disturbed by it.

- Pop messages should only be used when the user operates RB manually.

Please sync gtk-doc (main) from Debian unstable (main).

Changelog since current feisty version 1.7-1ubuntu1:

gtk-doc (1.7-2) unstable; urgency=high

  * Call dh_scrollkeeper in binary-install manually since we don't use
gnome.mk.
  * New patch, 10_update-gnome-doc-common-files, to update xmldocs.make and
omf.make to the latest version from gnome-common.
  * New patch, 11_disable-scrollkeeper-conditional, to work around a bogus
AM_CONDITIONAL around a docdir re-definition; new patch
70_mandatory-automake to hold the generated files of an automake-1.9 run.
  * Build-depend on scrollkeeper.
  * Do not overwrite DEB_CONFIGURE_EXTRA_FLAGS.
  * Don't ship the generated scrollkeeper files; *sigh*.

[Bug 73117] Re: should allow to open a spatial window from the browser mode

That's correct. But it would be good to have a way to use spatial even
if browser is default.

The option you want to drop is useful for opening a new nautilus window
with browser mode (to dnd from one to the other then by example)

Not really. I should have made this clear earlier, but the behaviour I'm
complaining about takes place only on the desktop. Look at the
screenshots:

http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/4278/1hs5.png

Image from the desktop. Both menu entries do the same - open a folder in
browser mode. Either one of them should open spatial, or we should drop
one.

http://img453.imageshack.us/img453/1470/2gz4.png

Image from a Nautilus window. You can open a new window with the second
option, so it's OK to keep it. It's image 1 I have a problem with.

Thank you for your bug. Could you describe what you were doing when you
got the crash? Could you get a backtrace with gaim-dbg installed (you
can use apport-retrace on the crash file after installing gaim-dbg if
you still have it) or attach a non-stripped crash file?

Matt Davey schrieb:
 Hi Phil,
It looks as though gnome-pilot hasn't actually been built correctly. I don't
know what steps you took (I didn't give detailed instructions, because
usually people asking for patches and building packages are old hands at this
 stuff).

You say you built gnome-pilot 1.161, but 1.161 refers to one single
file from the gnome-pilot source tree. So I don't know whether you
checked out the whole gnome-pilot source from CVS (I doubt it) or just
dropped the updated gpilotd.c file into some other source distribution
 of gnome-pilot.

Anyway, here are some more detailed instructions that might help you along:
 1. download gnome-pilot 2.0.15 from gnome.org:

 http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/gnome-pilot/2.0/gnome-pilot-2.0.15.tar.gz
 2. unpack the file using 'tar xzf gnome-pilot-2.0.15.tar.gz'
 3. change into the gnome-pilot-2.0.15 directory.
 4. build it, configuring it to put the installation somewhere that won't
conflict with your system installation (so that if an updated Edgy version is
released you can easily upgrade). Here's how to build it:
4a. ./configure --prefix=/tmp/gp -- or use some other location instead of
 /tmp/gp
 4b. make make install
 5. Now, start the background daemon: killall gpilotd;
 /tmp/gp/libexec/gpilotd
 6. In another window, start the corresponding config applet:
 /tmp/gp/bin/gpilotd-control-applet

With any luck, you'll be in business, i.e. able to configure and enable the
backup conduit. You won't have Evolution conduits at this stage. If you
 want those,
copy the .conduit files from your system installation (I'm not 100% where
they go on Ubuntu, so do 'locate e-address | grep conduit') and put them
 into /tmp/gp/share/gnome-pilot/conduits/.

These instructions are off the top of my head, so apologies if I've made
 some mistakes.
