I also suffer this bug in Edgy, epiphany 2.16.1-0ubuntu2.

However, I've found a workaround: activate pango renderer gconf key:
/apps/epiphany/web/enable_pango . Then all fonts are properly shown.

[Bug 73023] Re: Round orange emblems have lack usability

2006-11-30 Thread nysosym
Hi,

I'm the developer of these emblems and agree with some points of critic.
I have created a colored preview of these emblems and it would be nice, when u
will write a comment about that.

http://img105.imageshack.us/my.php?image=colorhumanemblemswa5.png

Why are all these emblems round?. That's a good question and the
answer is really simple, my idea was to create new emblems and all
people who have a look on it should think These are emblems!. For that
fact, I have used a consistent look to identify every emblem, as an
emblem.

Why are all emblems orange? Although this answer is very simple, I
would have a great consistens with the Human look and the main color
of human is orange. I didn't thought that this would be a big usability
problem, because i find everything at the same time, as with the
original gnome emblems.

The Idea with emblem folders is good, but there is a big problem, it is
very unusable to have more than one icon on every folder, because
folders are to small.

Sincerely Eric S.

[Bug 73891] build error trying to build evolution-data-server from .dsc, .diff.gz, and tarball

2006-11-30 Thread Matt Davey
Public bug reported:

I was trying to rebuild evolution-data-server without optimisation, to
help track down a bug triggered by a gnome-pilot synchronisation with
the calendar conduit.

I am having trouble with the libical part of e-d-s. It appears that the
calendar/libical/configure script is not getting run. The build stops
when it goes into calendar/libical and attempts to 'make all', because
there isn't a Makefile there. I'm not sure where to look for problems.
I seem to have a reasonable development environment (I'd no problem
rebuilding the gnome-pilot .deb packages, for example). I tried
installing automake1.8 and automake1.9, which I hadn't got installed,
but had the same error. Any ideas?

For the record, the build steps I've been using are pretty much:
1. get the .dsc, .diff.gz and tarball.
2. run dpkg-src to untar and apply the diff.
3. go into the e-d-s directory, and run 'dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot'

I'm using the current Edgy package, AFAIK, e-d-s-0ubuntu3.

[Bug 73892] UI components render with black backgrounds in GTK applications

2006-11-30 Thread offmessage
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-0

The tabs in the default Firefox theme have a black background that
disappears when they are hovered over or clicked.

Apparently random page elements within web pages also gain this black
background that is then altered by CSS or Javascript activity.

The rulers in the GIMP have random black lines across them also.

I am running Edgy on AMD64 with an AGP Fx5700 (Aeolus AOpen). The other
machines in the office are also running Edgy AMD64 with Fx5700 cards,
but no one else is experiencing the problem. Mine is the only Aeolus
card, and also the only AGP card. The others are PCI Express.

This problem does not appear to manifest itself in non-GTK applications.

aptitude show nvidia-glx returns the same driver version for all
machines (1.0.8776+2.6.17.6-1)

[Bug 73892] Re: UI components render with black backgrounds in GTK applications

2006-11-30 Thread offmessage
Actually. This is worse than first thought, and not solely GTK based.

When I minimise or maximise any window a black trail is left across the
screen from the window position to the minimised position on the task
bar. I guess this means that it is a graphics driver issue instead.

I've attached another screenshot

[Bug 73023] Re: Round orange emblems have lack usability

2006-11-30 Thread Karoliina Salminen
There is one thing though (IMHO):
- the orange ones (screenshot above) look stylish and professional
- the old ones look unprofessional

I think the fact that they are ugly has nothing to do with their usability and
usability of stylish
graphics should be improved instead of replacing the new stylish graphics with
the old ugly graphics that would make the system to look bad since the
non-stylish graphics would greatly reduce the
end user's first impression which is very important for forming the overall
impression of the system.

[Bug 62430] Re: FireFox associates .pls files with RhythmBox

2006-11-30 Thread Malcolm Parsons
I'm using Edgy on AMD64.

Example: http://www.irlp.net/listen_live.html links to
http://live.irlp.net:8000/listen.pls

Running rhythmbox http://live.irlp.net:8000/listen.pls; launches
rhythmbox, but does not play the playlist or add a new internet radio
station.

Downloading the playlist, then running rhythmbox listen.pls launches
rhythmbox, but does not play the playlist or add a new internet radio
station.

In rhythmbox you can add a new internet radio station and paste a URL
into the dialog, but neither of the above commands is a shortcut to do
this.

Hiya

Thanks for the quick response!

We've been plugging away at this for a while and have managed to resolve
the problem.

In answer to your questions:
Neither machine is running Beryl or Compiz

It only happened with the nvidia driver, but the nv driver caused the
machine to fail entirely

The way that we fixed it was to both delete the user's home directory
and replace the xorg.conf with the one from the working machine.

Both machines have two monitors. I was using the two screen
configuration from the 'system settings' control panel (Xinerama), while
my colleague was using twinview. It appears that the twin monitor
configuration from the control panel clobbered something in my home
directory that caused the problem (possibly in .kde?)

Thanks again for the quick response - if the problem reoccurs I will
update you.

Cheers

Andy

[Bug 73023] Re: Round orange emblems have lack usability

2006-11-30 Thread Maniac
I think Karoliina made a good point. Yes, usability and style are often
not related. The original point of the bug is that current emblems are
stylish but not usable (or not so much usable). That's why I suggested
that we can improve usability even by returning old Gnome icons. But
sure we all would prefer emblems to be both stylish and usable!

Now from comments I understood that the main idea of nysosym is to make
emblems share some unified look to deliver the notion that they are
emblems and are from the same pool. I'd like to make some comments on
this.

- (this one is a speculation, I never really tested it) I think that
emblems are viewed as emblems mainly not by their look but by their
role: every picture that hangs next to a main icon is an emblem. But I
agree that unified look is not a bad thing by itself.

- The unified look can nonetheless be broken by user's custom emblems
which you can see on my orange screenshot in the upper right corner, I
used two project's icons for project folders. This was the thing that
always looked ugly in many alternative shells for Windows: they come
with some beautiful set of icons, but as soon as a user wants a custom
icon it stands out and looks ugly (not all users can draw).

- Even if we really want to stick to a unified look we can make the
'unified' part less overwhelming. Imagine a set of colorful and
differently shaped icons that all have some _little_ common detail. Let
it be the orange circle but let it be small enough to not eat the shape
but big enough to be recognizable. I even try to make some prototype
though my drawing skills are low :-)

Thanks for your bug report. I can't reproduce this as all. Which version
of Ubuntu and gdm do you use? Do you get anything interesting in one of
the users' ~/.xsession-errors?

[Bug 73943] nautilus crashes when open parent directory in spatial mode

2006-11-30 Thread Grégoire Cachet

I'm running Feisty and nautilus 2.16.2-0ubuntu1.

When I use Nautilus in spatial mode and I click on the list of parent
directory to go up in the tree, it crashes every time.

[Bug 73931] Re: login in nested window dies changing workspace

2006-11-30 Thread Chris Jones
This is Edgy with all updates.

The xsession-errors shows some regular looking startup messages, then a
few alsa errors about not being able to find a device, then it just
seems like the server died.

ALSA lib pcm.c:2146:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM default
The application 'gnome-session' lost its connection to the display :20.0;
most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed
the application.

Re: [Bug 73270] Re: Crash after GtkNotebookWindowCreationFunc

2006-11-30 Thread Tony Houghton
In [EMAIL PROTECTED], you wrote:

You should have a drop-down box under the Status label. The status
changes might be restricted to the bugsquad members, you should be able
to close a bug you have opened though.

There definitely aren't links or menus there now, and I don't think
there ever were before you rejected the bug. There are links under
Affects and Assigned To, but I think they're just to provide more
information, not to edit the bug.

If that doesn't for you maybe
 open a bug on launchpad

OK.

[Bug 26891] Re: fileselector should use a combo list for the filetype

2006-11-30 Thread Christoffer Sørensen
Well, I'm not sure if it is the same.

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=135901

mentions a drop down list. I've commented on that upstream bug to
clarify it is really the same.

[Bug 73954] Cannot create weather Calendar for Washington, DC, USA

2006-11-30 Thread Rich Renomeron
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution-plugins

Washington, DC is not available as a location when creating a weather
calendar, either under District of Columbia, or either of its two nearby
airports in Virginia (Regan National -- DCA, Dulles -- IAD).
Furthermore, there are no choices for immediate suburbs (the closest
choice is Pax River NAS, MD and Baltimore, MD). This seems like an
oversight (and hopefully not a knock on the US capital city).

[Bug 73747] Re: gconf is storing both compressed and uncompressed trees on disk

2006-11-30 Thread Paul Sladen
Nope, don't know where they come from either. According to dpkg -S
nothing 'owns' those files, only the directory '/var/lib/gconf/'.

*shrug*. I suppose I could delete everything in that directory and see
what breaks or gets recreated.
