Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

gnome-system-moniter reports that a few apps use 16 exabytes of RAM (on
x86-64).

So far I have found that the forrowing apps are reported as using that much RAM:
gnome-app-insta
gnome-panel
gnome-system-moniter
firefox/iceweasel
nautilus
gnome-theme-manager

NOTE:The resources tab does report the correct total memory usage.

[Bug 74214] deskbar document searches not included in recent documents list

2006-12-02 Thread Martin G Miller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: deskbar-applet

This behavior was displayed in a system upgraded from Dapper to Edgy 32 bit.
If a search for filenames is done by deskbar that results in an existing
document file in .odt format, that file will not appear in the Places>Recent
Documents list, even though you opened the document in Open Office Writer, made
changes and saved it.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Alt/F3 to invoke deskbar
2) type in part of document name
3) In search window, double click the found document to open it in Open Office

Moving this to gnome-cups-manager.

As gnome-cups-manager is not maintained any more this problem will get
fixed by the replacement of gnome-cups-manager with printerdrake in

[Bug 74064] HP DeskJet 952C ignores color/grayscale settings

2006-12-02 Thread Joel Parker
Public bug reported:

I have an HP DeskJet 952C printer I set up with the normal GNOME print
manager. It's ignoring all of my settings related to color, though.

The Advanced setting tab offers the following settings:
*PageRegion (Letter)
*Resolution, Quality, Ink Type, Media Type (Controlled by 'Printout Mode'
*Printout Mode (Draft Grayscale)

With the above settings, the resulting test page (from 'Print a Test
Page') is full color.

I can change to Resolution, Quality, Ink Type, Media Type setting to
'300dpi, Draft, Grayscale, Black + Color Cartr.' and print the test page
again, but it still prints color.

So the color settings in the printer properties simply aren't getting
applied.

This worked fine in Dapper and all before it.

[Bug 74166] Problems with changing default sound card in Sound caplet

2006-12-02 Thread Pecisk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Scenario: I have two sound cards, built-in one and second multichannel
(ice1712 based). I can see them booth in System => Preferences => Sound,
in Sound part, where Default soundcard is defined. I want to change
default sound card time after time.

Problem:
1. Open System => Preferences => Sound
2. Choose Sounds part of dialog window and change default sound card, from
multichannel to built-in one
3. Check .asoundrc.asoundconf, if it has new definition of default sound card.
Everything there is fine.
4. Open System => Preferences => Sound => Sounds to change back default sound
card
5. Default sound card listing shows old card as default one, altought in config
file there is new one as default. So in result I can change how many times I
want, I can't change default back to old card, altough in caplet I see it
defined as default.

There was similar problem with asoundconf program who is used to change
default ALSA soundcard, but this seems like more a problem with Caplet

[Bug 72600] Re: GParted does not recognize my LVM partitions

2006-12-02 Thread Stéphane Graber
There are two possibilities :
 - You can simply change the status for this bug and mark it completed
 - Ask someone to move it as a Wish for gparted

As I said, Ubuntu can be installed on a LVM without any problem but with the
"alternate" cdrom instead of the "desktop" cdrom.
The alternate uses the old installer and doesn't do the LiveCD part.

[Bug 72600] Re: GParted does not recognize my LVM partitions

2006-12-02 Thread Chris Heeney
Thanks Stephane,

I went to the GParted project features page
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/features.php and ther is no indication of
support for Logical Volume Manager(LVM).

A seperate toolset is probably required to detect and work with LVM
partitions. If this is the case, then it would be appropriate to have an
LVM detection utility when analyzing the partitioning scheme. An
advanced option maybe?

I ended up blowing everything away and starting from scratch. Its a
great way to learn :-)

I would prefer to use LVM 2 for my linux partitions because it provides
more flexability. However, that will have to wait until either GParted
supports it or I can figure out how to do it in Ubuntu. Interestingly
enough, with my re-install I did see an option that would allow me to
use/create an LVM. So, as long as Ubuntu is my first linux install, I
may be able to create an LVM from a single linux primary partition. I
will try that next time.

In any case, this time I just used the following primary and extended
partitions:
[hda0,1]- 1st primary partition is windows. Formatted as FAT32(VFAT)
with Logical block Addressing(LBA). Linux can read and write to FAT32 and GRUB
works with LBA to boot beyond the 1024 cylinder limitation. Note that older
drives do not support LBA.
[hda0,2]- 2nd primary partition is for the shared swap partition which
is located at the end of the drive for enhanced performance. This is only true
for newer drives.
[hda0,3]- 3rd primary partition is the extended partition.
[hda0,5]- 1st logical partition for the 1st Linux distribution: Ubuntu
[hda0,6]- 2nd logical partition for the 2nd Linux distribution: Fedora
Core
[hda0,7]- 3rd logical partition for the 3rd Linux distribution: openSUSE
[hda0,8]- 4th logical partition for FAT32 shared media for all OS's.

I installed winxp first, followed by Ubuntu 6.10. Ubuntu saw all the
partitions this time and I was able to install it properly. I installed
Fedora core afterwards and it installed fine as well.

The only regret with this install was that I did not create a shared
/boot partition. If that was the case I would not have had to manually
edit the /boot/grub/menu.lst file under Ubuntu. Once I found the "gksudo
nautilus" it was a breezebut before that, trying to figure out how
to edit config files under Ubuntu was turning into a nightware =:-O

So I am not sure wether I am supposed to "close" or "complete" this now.
Who is responsible for changing the "status"?

Thanks,

Chris

  * debian/patches/greek.diff: New patch to replace dead_horn and
dead_ogonek by U0313/U0314, which are the correct breathing
signs for polytonic Greek. This change can be performed now
that an updated el_GR.UTF-8/Compose file hit testing.
Closes: #386385 Thanks Jan Willem Stumpel.

  * debian/patches/compatibility.diff: Add compatibility rules to
make sure that changes in symbols/pc do not cause trouble.
Closes: #389589 Thanks Robert Bihlmeyer.

[Bug 60341] Re: gnome-terminal window loses title

2006-12-02 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Well, I found what the cause of the problem is in my particular case. On
the following diff between /etc/skel/.bashrc and ~/.bashrc, which I
attached some days ago, the bug disappears when I uncomment the line:

PROMPT_COMMAND='history -a'

@@ -70,3 +70,13 @@
 if [ -f /etc/bash_completion ]; then
 . /etc/bash_completion
 fi
+
+# Append entries to the history file for each new shell
+shopt -s histappend
+# The contents of this variable are executed as a regular Bash command
+# just before Bash displays a prompt. This appends the history entries
+# for all open shells
+PROMPT_COMMAND='history -a'
+
+# Export the local repository root
+export CVSROOT=/home/dpm/cvsrepo

After doing that, I no longer get a static "Terminal" title bar text,
but it gets updated with the output of the current command as expected.
So the vim thing was just a red herring, I believe.

What was happening, I think, was that on the initial launch of gnome-
terminal, the title bar was not being set and the "Terminal" default was
being used. When using vim, it set the titlebar text to the name of the
file being edited, and when exiting vim, the title bar was updated to
nothing.

So this is either a problem with bash or gnome-terminal, I think. But
considering that Santiago is using zsh and also experiencing this
problem, I'd be more inclined to think that this is a problem with
gnome-terminal.

IIRC, on Dapper gnome-terminal was not showing this problem. I might try
later on with a Dapper LiveCD if this was the case.

[Bug 74127] Re: report

2006-12-02 Thread Cody A.W. Somerville
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Unfortunately, we are not able
to fix and find the bug because your description of the bug didn't have enough
information in it. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively",
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html.
We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the
problem.
