[Bug 73744] Re: rhythmbox is slow!

2006-12-07 Thread LGB [Gábor Lénárt]
Ok, I've just removed gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3 and gstreamer0.10
-fluendo-mpegdemux just for testing. Playing mp3 and/or a shutcast
stream seems to require about half amount of CPU than before removing
those packages, however I think ithis CPU usage (about 6-8%) remains too
high (on a 1.7GHz P4 CPU, ok not the newest one, though of course ...).

[Bug 74790] Open/Save dialog doesn't understand NFS root

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-0

On a HDD install the Gnome/Gtk file open/save dialog shows a File

an arrow now doesn't.

2006-12-07 Thread LGB [Gábor Lénárt]
Reported by 'top'. Ok, I know it's not the best method. I've got some
complex math software, I tried to run with niced to +10 or such (to
avoid r.box to glitch by lacking enough cpu time slice), and discovers
that time needed to compute somehing grows while running r.box as well
compared to the situation when r.box is not running or not playing
anything (also done witth just gst-launch-0.10 playbin). If I compares
the time I got about the same CPU usage stolen from math software that
r.box uses reported by top. I don't know however if it's a correct
method or not :)

Re: [Bug 45345] Re: Mixer applet: Recognize Front as a Master channel

2006-12-07 Thread cbudden
I would like to add my complaint about this. Having one control adjust one
volume and the fn keys and built in vol keys another is very confusing as to
why sound is coming out if you have muted or turned it down.

On 12/7/06, Sebastien Bacher [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

 Le jeudi 07 décembre 2006 à 00:45 +, John Dong a écrit :
Not being to control the volume for a large portion of Intel HDA users

You can control the Front volume from the mixer or select it from the
applet with the right click menu no? And it's minor because you are
the only user who complained about that at the moment and it's easy to
 workaround

[Bug 32302] Re: Duplicate printers listed when adding HP printer

2006-12-07 Thread Till Kamppeter
This really cannot be considered a bug of HPLIP, it is a problem of the
printer setup tools. See the 4th comment in this bug report, from Pascal
De Vuyst at 2006-02-28 21:46:06 CET:

You see the printer twice as it is once directly detected by CUPS
through its usb backend and once via HPLIP via the hp CUPS backend.

If you run lpinfo -v or use the CUPS web interface
(http://localhost:631/admin/) you will also see two entries for your
printer.

In the CUPS web interface you can clearly distinguish the two entries,
all printer setup tools should do so, as it can always happen that more
than one CUPS backend can be suitable for one and the same printer. The
printer setup tools should also recommend the hp backend over usb
because it supports the special features of HP printers.

gnome-cups-manager is not maintained any more and will be replaced by
printerdrake. printerdrake suppresses the non-HPLIP entry. See also

C.J. Collier, your backtrace seems to be a different one, why do you
comment on that bug? Could you open a new one? Listing different

the xscreensaver packge contains the binary that replaces gnome-

xscreensaver-data, xscreensaver-data-universe and the xscreensaver-

[Bug 73744] Re: rhythmbox is slow!

2006-12-07 Thread Sebastian Dröge
Well, top only reports cpu usage in the exact moment of measurement or
at least something very similar to this... i.e. you could even get 100%
cpu usage by a app that is sleeping most of the time.

A better way would be something like gkrellm's cpu usage graph or just
the cpu time of the progress compared to the real running time.

So could you please start rhythmbox, play music for a defined amount of
time and report what the time column of top says (and how long you
played music).

[Bug 56484] Re: hal does not detect non-ATAPI CD-ROM drives

2006-12-07 Thread Martin Pitt
I shortly discussed that with Jonathan. It only breaks with the
unofficial KDE 3.5.5 packages, not with Dapper's KDE.

Riddell pitti: but I'll look into making a suitable hal package for those
kubuntu.org packages when I have some spare time
pitti Riddell: shall I revert the ubuntu-updates patch for now?
pitti it'll break SCSI and USB CD-ROMs again, but...
Riddell pitti: I wouldn't revert a fix in ubuntu because it breaks some
unsupported packages

[Bug 56484] Re: hal does not detect non-ATAPI CD-ROM drives

2006-12-07 Thread Martin Pitt
pitti Riddell: hm, in dapper's hal there's only a 'policy
at_console=true' policy for the Mount methods, no 'group=plugdev' as in edgy
pitti Riddell: so it actually appears that it should fail the same way with
dapper final's hal
pitti Riddell: the curious thing is that they claimed that downgrading to
18.1 from dapper-proposed fixed it
pitti Riddell: but 18.2 is the same as 18.1, just uploaded to dapper-updates
-- jonh_wendell hat sich getrennt (Client Quit)
Riddell pitti: the kubuntu.org kde 3.5.5 archive has a modified version of
0.5.7-1ubuntu18.1
pitti Riddell: aah, that explains it then
pitti Riddell: so reverting the hal fix in ubuntu would not fix it at all then

So the SRU is ok as it is.

[Bug 71835] Re: In Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft: Evolution don't show e-mail messages after save a message and your attachment.

2006-12-07 Thread Sebastien Bacher
If you run evolution from a command line do you have any warning printed
on it when you get that sort of problem. What does the status bar is
writting when that happens? What sort of account do you use? If that's a
network one (imap by example), do you have a reliable network? Evolution
might be sensible to issues on the network

[Bug 50362] Re: wastebasket no longer works - shows no files

2006-12-07 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug. What version of nautilus do you use? What
filesystem? Do you have a .Trash or .Trash-user on the partition where
you delete the file? Can you user write to it? Are you sure you don't
use the option to bypass the trash by default?

[Bug 73408] Re: In Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft: After to empty Trash with a large file in Gnome, System hangs.

2006-12-07 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug. Does switching to a VT with ctrl-alt-Fn works
when it's hanging? Do you have anything to /var/log/messages or
/var/log/syslog about that? A system hang is not a nautilus bug
(whatever an app is doing the system should be robust), likely a linux
or an xorg one
