Re: [Bug 73023] Re: Round orange emblems have lack usability

2006-12-24 Thread nysosym
Hi, merry X-Mas!

I like Jef's emblems although, but I think an emblem should be simple and
easy to read.
Photo realistic emblems would be a hard to identify, especially on higher
resolutions.

I know my emblems, have much room for improvements, but hey, good critic
will have a good solution. On the other side, the emblems are under GPL and
any user can change or modify them.

For some people the package emblems looks like a t-shirt and the certified
as a clock. But the original Gnome certified emblem is very similar, with
a view to old gnome users, I have used a middle way between new and
old emblems. I have played with a 3D Package, but all the other emblems
are 2D and a 3D symbol has too many details. In this way I have used the
t-shirt solution.

Maybe we should make a poll, let's the community choose the best way.

sincerely Eric S.

[Bug 62031] Re: GDM sometimes does not start correct on XDMCP remote session

2006-12-24 Thread Hans-Werner Dietz
No, on the network itself is no firewall between the Windows and the
Ubuntu PC. And for all tests I also switched off my personal firewall on
the Windows PC (zonealarm).

With an enabled clipboard in Xming successfull remote logon really only
depends on former local logon at ubuntu machine.

Using the strange disable-clipboard-workaround I can successfull remote-
logon with and without active zonealarm on my windows PC.

[Bug 30819] Re: yelp search feature useless to target audience

2006-12-24 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
After many fixes to the search function, searching for either printing
or print in Ubuntu Help now promptly returns the most relevant section
as the #2 result. (The section itself isn't that helpful, but that's a
separate issue.) One more bugfix should make it #1 for printing, and
should also make our Burning CDs section show up at all in the results
for cd burning. There are probably other problems with other search
strings, but these two are shaking out many of the major bugs. :-)

[Bug 67876] ipw2200/Intel 2915abg Wireless 128-bit WEP doesn't work, must set up manually

2006-12-24 Thread Douglas Moyes
Public bug reported:

The Network Configuration tool is unable to set up a working 128-bit WEP
encrypted link with the ipw2200, however unencrypted networks work fine.
I was able to find a work around, but it has to do with the order in
which the card is initialized. This is a little bothersome since I plan
on selling Linux laptops...

It is vital that, before setting up the network connection, the wifi
card is disabled, then the following steps are taken to initialize the
card IN THIS ORDER!

iwconfg device essid your id here
iwconfig device key encryption key, 64 or 128-bit
ifup device

Now your 128-bit WEP link is up and running with the Intel/PRO 2915ABG
802.11a/b/g Mini-PCI wireless card.

It is also interesting to note that when you disable the wireless connection
from the command line with ifconfig without disabling it in configuration
utility, the wifi card will reconnect to any available network-- which, in this
case, was my next door neighbor's unencrypted network that had a router still
configured using the default login password. Brilliant Mac user...

[Bug 68362] No explanation when Disks Manager cannot unmount

2006-12-24 Thread kripkenstein
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

When trying to disable (unmount) a partition in Disks Manager, if the
unmount fails, then nothing happens - no explanation, no error. Just a
screen redraw for the window.

For example, if some process is using the partition, then an unmount
should fail (umount would return device is busy on the command line).
Try to disable the partition in Disks manager, and nothing happens, no
error is reported.

It would be nice if Disks Manager reported that the operation failed,
even if all it gave is the umount output. Even better would be some
smart output, e.g. the process that is using the partition, for example
fuser -m /dev/sda2 can say which process number is using sda2. Then
the command that started the process would be nice to know, for someone
trying and failing to unmount that partition.

[Bug 77054] mouse clicks do not get through anymore

2006-12-24 Thread Stijn Hoop
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

On a completely fresh install of Edgy on a Dell Latitude D620 (with
updates), I sometimes see problematic click behaviour, where mouse
clicks seem to get stuck and they never end up anywhere else anymore.
It seems related to notification popups. The mouse pointer does move,
and I can still type in the window that has the focus. xev tells me that
normally button presses do generate a Press and a Release. When two
other applications are opened, I can fix the focus by pressing ALT+TAB,
but it repeats itself often enough that it's making working with the
mouse on the laptop pretty much unusable.

I will attach some warnings from $HOME/.xession-errors that might or
might not be relevant.

[Bug 36670] Re: ignore disabling of key //desktop/gnome/background/draw_background ?

** Description changed:

I use applications that draw themselves on the X root window, so i
disable the draw_background key for gnome with gconf-editor. However,
gnome *still continues to draw the background* and hides the window of
the application drawing to the root of the screen. When disabling the
draw_background, gnome must not draw anything (image or bgcolor) on the
root window. I believe this worked correctly with standard gnome from

[Bug 70901] Re: GDM doesn't allow login if passw ord contains é character

2006-12-24 Thread Pedro Menezes
I'm in Belgium but I prefer to handle OSes in English, thus:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ env | grep LANG
LANG=en_US.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=en_BE:en
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

So, LANG is English but the locale is Belgian (English).

Unlike the duplicated bug, this is not 6.10 or Feisty Fawn, but rather
Dapper Security (6.06.1 LTS) in x86_64, but probably the package is
pretty similar if not the same across these diferent Ubuntu's...

Thanks for the reply and have a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year :)

maybe, we are not going to change the package without any rationnal just

[Bug 67936] Re: [network-admin] Crash when starting from menu.

2006-12-24 Thread montag
I've had the same problem.
Network-admin began to crash at the startup after I've added an host. Removing
manually the relative line in /etc/host made network-admin to start again.
Then I've tried to repeat the experiment: adding an host (using network-admin
or editing manually the file) makes network-admin to crash at startup.
Hope it helps.

[Bug 69759] Re: Patch for compositing disable hibernate and suspend from logout dialog

2006-12-24 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug. The patch you mention has nothing to do with
LTSP_CLIENT, if you set LTSP_CLIENT that's because you use ltsp and
that's why action like hibernate are not available (you don't want
clients make hibernate the ltsp server). The patch doesn't do the
xserver grabbing when a composite manager is being used. Marking the bug
as rejected, that's not a bug, you just use a variable made for
something else

[Bug 66034] Re: Cannot run gdmsetup

2006-12-24 Thread Frank McCormick
Well I am happy with the workaround but it bugs me why the problem
only seemed to affect 3 or 4 people. Looking at the init scripts for
Dapper and Edgy, I did notice that dbus runs from an s20 script in Edgy,
while it is s12 in Dapper. GDM runs with s13 in both cases ( except as I
changed it to s21 to allow gdmsetup to run). Maybe dbus has to run
before gdm ???

I also had a similar experience running edgy. I was saving a png file in
the gimp. While the file was in the progress of saving (about half way
though) I navigated to the directory where i was saving the png using
nautilus. I believe the crash may be a combination of nautilus trying to
thumbnail the file, while it was being saved in the gimp. I have
attached a crash report.
