2007-01-16 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your work on that. xine-ui is the xine player. Could you install
totem-xine-dbgsym (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash) and get a
backtrace with gdb:
- gdb totem

[Bug 79362] Re: Gimp Crash Upon Open as Layer File Selection Dialog

2007-01-16 Thread Stephen Eisenhauer
I have no leads on reproducing the crash.

I reported a crash, not a bug. The crash handler in Ubuntu isn't really
implemented to discern between the two. If the crash report it
generated isn't useful in any way, then so be it. I'm sorry if I've
merely wasted time.

Hello
I checked Synaptic for totem-xine dbgsym, and I already have it installed.
I have attached the backtrace with gdb in OpenDocument Text format.
The last two lines (gdb) are there because I pressed Enter on my keyboard.
I can not trigger the crash when I want.Sometimes I can trigger it
easily, and sometimes it requires some effort to trigger it.
I play ISOs created from video DVDs,as well as .flvs downloaded from
Youtube that are converted into normal video formats.
You can download Youtube .flvs converted into normal video formats from

[Bug 79539] unplugging USB webcam causes khubd to go 100% until ekiga is closed

2007-01-16 Thread Jerome Lacoste
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ekiga

100% reproducible

1- plug webcam
2- start ekiga. image show on window
3- unplug webcam

results:
khubd goes 100% CPU

expected:
ekiga detects the removed camera and close the device, allowing the driver to
correctly disconnect (and not trigger the CPU issue in khubd)

Reproduced using:
- ekiga 2.0.3-ubuntu3
- a USB webcam using the spca50x driver

According to the pilot author, ekiga should handle the problem better:

le pilote préviend l'application qu'il n'y a plus de webcam en
renvoyant ENODEV c'est Ekiga qui doit en tenir compte et sortir sur une
erreur fatale aprés avoir fermé le device.

i.e. the driver sends a ENODEV error and ekiga should take this into
account and close the device.

As for khubd taking 100% that also sounds like an issue, so I will open
another issue.

I have to say, the only thing I can understand in those reports is whether they
lack debugging symbols or not. So i would be totally unable to quote the right

know for the next time I report a bug.
By the way I don't really understand your last sentence : Copying a part of

The crash file has many useful informations, the package version, the

is good enough we can work from it

No need to do anything else, I copied a debug backtrace to the bug
comments before, I just copied your version to an another because that
variant was made with bt full which list local variables and that
looks useful for that bug (I didn't copy them on the first version
because the normal backtraces are shorter and easier a read from a quick

[Bug 79559] xvimagesink/fglrx x1400 - Strange video colour hues

2007-01-16 Thread andrewm
Public bug reported:

Hello

I've been getting a strange bug that has appeared since Dapper (I'm
currently running Feisty) which involves the output colours of a video
when played using xvimagesink.

When using XV output in Mplayer and VLC there doesn't seem to be a
problem.

However both Totem and gst-launch-0.10 filesrc location=./videofile.avi
! avidemux ! xviddec ! ffmpegcolorspace ! videoscale method=1 !
xvimagesink return the same colour distortion.

If ximagesink is selected in gstreamer-properties the picture is also
fine.

My hardware is a Toshiba Tecra A6 laptop with a Mobile Radeon X1400
video card using fglrx version 8.32.5, however this has occurred in all
previous versions since Dapper.

Curiously, I found that enabling XGL (not AIGLX) fixed the problem,
however this isn't very practical.

I will attach screenshots of the video output and my xorg.conf and
xvinfo output.

Thanks for your time.

[Bug 79501] Re: Control Panel Hates Alacarte

2007-01-16 Thread Paul Williams
Yes, but the Ubuntu System Panel draws its program list from Alacarte's
configuration.

Gnome-control-center did not just add itself to the menu. If it did that, I
wouldn't care.
The problem is, that is removed all of the System Preferences and System
Administration .desktop files.
I fail to understand why these files would be removed. I don't understand how
it could benefit any user.

[Bug 79501] Re: Control Panel Hates Alacarte

2007-01-16 Thread Paul Williams
** Description changed:

In Feisty, the Control Center is a total failure.

- For some reason, all of the programs that used to be in System
- Preferences and System Administration have been removed from Alacarte.
+ I use a program called Ubuntu System Panel. In this program's applications
menu, the applications list is drawn from the .desktop files that Alacarte
configures.
+ With the new version of gnome-control-center, the .desktop files that used to
be in System in the default main menu have been removed. Now, the only way to
configure the system is through the control center, which man Feisty testers
are unpleased with (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=338869)

- This is horrible for people that use menus other than the gnome-main-menu
(e.g., Ubuntu System Panel) because now none of the programs that were
previously in SystemPrefs/Admin can be accessed except with using Alt+F2, or
from the terminal.
- I really how this will be reverted in a later release of Feisty.
+ All that I am requesting is that the System .desktop files be readded
+ to the system. This way, users can choose whether they want to display
+ the System Preferences and the System Administration applications.

[Bug 47426] Re: desktop files with Category=Science; don't show in the menus

2007-01-16 Thread Phil Bull
Hmm, fair point. I'm not totally convinced that all apps in the Science
category match the Education category too, though.

What do you suggest? As I see it, these are the options at the minute:

 * Modify all relevant .desktop files to include category 'Education'
 * Modify applications.menu so that Science packages go into the Education
category in the Applications menu
 * Introduce a Science category to applications.menu
 * Do nothing, leave the packages split across 2-3 categories

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Unfortunately, we are
not able to fix and find the bug because your description of the bug

of the problem.

[Bug 79576] Re: System Menu options dissapear

2007-01-16 Thread iKs
This happens because of a change in Gnome : Gnome now uses a Gnome
Control Center. A link to it should appear in your System menu.

Please reboot and see if it does appear.
If it does run mv ~/.config/menus/system.menu
~/.config/menus/system.menu.undo-1 in a Terminal.

[Bug 79550] Re: [network-admin] Network setup quits when selecting wireless card

2007-01-16 Thread essexman
Sebastian

I will try, but this is very difficult if I can't connect to the network
as this gives my internet connection.

I will try to fugure a way but hopefully someone else will confirm this
in the meantime.
