[Bug 81240] Gnome File Selector makes some left shortcuts disappear

2007-01-24 Thread Pascal Potvin
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu Edgy, the gnome save as... file selector makes the home and
desktop icons disappear, on the left column.

Steps to reproduce :

1- Open a file with gedit that is located in a directory located in ~, such as
~/scripts/hello
2- File -- Save As
3- Browse for other folders

Tadam! There is no Home, nor Desktop. However, if you click over the
left column, you will see that there is still two empty boxes in the
gnome list.

If it doesn't work the first time, just cancel the save as dialog, and File
-- Save As again.
The bug can be reproduced in firefox, or other apps that use the gnome file
dialog.

[Bug 76623] Re: default screensaver cumbersome on old hardware

2007-01-24 Thread Oliver Grawert
the logo gets as big as the svg defines, it will only scale down, not
up, the shipped logo is 128x128 pix big.

i'll look into letting it move slower, but i fear rotating is to cpu
intensive for older machines ...

have a look at /usr/lib/gnome-screensaver/gnome-screensaver/floaters
--help

to see all available options.
until gnome-screensaver finally gets a configuration interface for the single
hacks, you can edit the Exec line of

Well, I used the live cd 0.3.3 but it directly doesn't recognize the

Right I just got on to the devs in the bug team and yes it is an
upstream issue. It has been recommended to me to ask you to post this
upstream. We believe this to be at gnome.bugzilla.org and then link
that bug to this so we can track it's progress. The only reason we ask
you to do this is because you have the error and therefore can answer
any questions that are posed. Please let us know how you get many thank

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gaim

People coming from windows are used to their IM apps showing a
notification window when something noteworthy happens. Gaim plays a
sound but shows nothing, which can be confusing to some users.

I think that gaim-libnotify should be installed by default in fresh

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-extensions

When starting epiphany-browser with the favicon-extension the extension
does not load with the following error message on the console:

--
  File /usr/lib/epiphany/2.17/extensions/favicon.py, line 3
SyntaxError: Non-ASCII character '\xc2' in file
/usr/lib/epiphany/2.17/extensions/favicon.py on line 3, but no encoding
declared; see http://www.python.org/peps/pep-0263.html for details

** (epiphany:23249): WARNING **: Could not initialize Python module 'favicon'
--

It's the copyright character in the GPL note at the beginning of the file that
is causing this error.
The solution is trivial: either replace the copyright-character by (c) or add
the line

# -*- coding: utf-8 -*-

right after the shebang.

2007-01-24 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Unfortunately we can't
fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. You
may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively.
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.

[Bug 81265] status bar in beta 6

2007-01-24 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gaim

Most gnome apps offer the user the posibility to open a drop-down menu
by just pressing the button. Then you can drag the cursor to the desired
item and release the button, so a single click suffices to do the whole
operation.

Gaim did the same in its status bar, IIRC. But in beta 6 you have to
push, then release the button to get the menu to appear, then press
again to select an item.

Please, revert this behaviour to its previous self.

[Bug 81177] Re: title position

2007-01-24 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug. Mentionning the version of Ubuntu you are using
would be useful. That's probably feisty, and looks like an upstream
decision to center the text. Marking the bug rejected, that's not a bug,
if you think that the title would be better left aligned than centered
better to talk with upstream about that

Re: [Bug 81183] Re: gnome-speech: Please review/upload this package.

2007-01-24 Thread Gilles Casse
I have the package prepared since a few hours after its release: we're
waiting on espeak to be promoted to main. There's also the issue that
espeak didn't build on amd64 and ia64 - if somebody wants to figure out
 why that'd be great.

Thank you.
Would it be possible to get access to such a machine online?
With emacs installed please :-) .

[Bug 73942] Left-handed mouse button settings not retained

2007-01-24 Thread parkyna
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-desktop

Hi,

I'm evaluating ubuntu 6.10 Edgy running in a virtual machine using
VMWare on XP Pro SP2.

My mouse buttons/scroll wheel work fine (thanks to ubuntu forum) but I
have a problem with left-handed buttons. I can change the buttons in a
session and they're fine for that session. However, when I re-start or
start a new session at another time, the mouse buttons have reverted
back to right-handed configuration, even though:

- the GUI (SystemPreferencesMouseButtons)
- sudo gconf-editor desktopgnomeperipheralsmouse

...both show the left-handed mouse button option 'ticked'.

Each new session I have to untick and re-tick to get the left-handed
functionality activated again.

I've tried the option of saving the session exactly as it is now:

- SystemPreferencesSessionsSession options 'Automatically save changes to
session'
- SystemPreferencesSessionsStartup Programs

but no joy.

I really like ubuntu 6.10 and will persevere but it's going to be a fag
to set my mouse prefeference every time I startup ubuntu.

[Bug 81312] Usability issue: When gaim is started in parallel it disconnect the older instance

2007-01-24 Thread Pascal de Bruijn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gaim

When starting GAIM while already having another instance of GAIM
running, the new instance of GAIM disconnects the old instance MSN
connections.

While is isn't GAIMs fault, it's pointless to support multiple
instances. GAIM supports having multiple accounts in a single instance,
so there is absolutely no need for multiple instances.

Of course, I just shouldn't start it twice, right... But some users
(like my mom) sometimes do, and when that happens they are hit by a
confusing 'Disconnected' dialog.

GAIM should see if it is already running on startup, and abort if it is
already running and maybe restore the GAIM window if it is minimized.

[Bug 75119] Re: [Feisty] evolution 2.9.x crashes when I click on any task in list view of tasks

2007-01-24 Thread Jan Mynarik
I found a workaround, see my comment to the upstream bug:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=381638#c10

I still think there is a fix needed, evolution shouldn't crash or
produce invalid files.
