[Bug 95355] Tooltips partially obscured when using larger mouse cursors

2007-03-24 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

I have my mouse cursors set to a larger size, and that works great, but
the tooltips in most programs tend to pop up behind the cursor,
obscuring the first word.

And you can't move your mouse to read it -- the tooltip will disappear.

I think the tooltip-display-algorithm should look at the mouse cursor's
size when determining where to display.

[Bug 49567] Re: list view doesn't expand subfolder when clicking on arrow if entry is selected

2007-03-24 Thread Roshan Shariff
I can confirm this bug on the Feisty beta. It doesn't work most of the
time, but sometimes it does. This only happens in list view (in either
browser or spatial mode) but not in other trees (like the one in the
browser view side pane).

One way of reliably triggering it is to select a subdirectory, and
slowly slide your mouse towards the extender from the right until it
highlights. The extender is now unresponsive to clicks, indicating a
mismatch between the region where it highlights itself and where it
responds to clicks.

However, very often it fails to respond even when clicked squarely on
the arrow. Usually it'll start responding again after a lot of retries
and moving the mouse around.

All this is seen only on selected entries. Other entries work perfectly
every time.

[Bug 95360] evolution can't print correctly previous and next months in the upper corners

2007-03-24 Thread mikko sorri
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have already written to gnome bugs, but maybe this is ubuntu font bug, not
source problem.
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=409546

There's six weeks for example in December 2007 (joulukuu in Finnish)
Evolution prints correctly only months which have five weeks. There's no extra
space for the sixth week. (December 31th 2007)
(file1)

I don't know why but in month view evolution prints December correctly.
(file2)

There's also too short space for Month names. In Finnish, November
(marraskuu) has 9 letters. And now it's too long word and goes out of
margins. (file 3)

And too short space for the day names, MoTuWe..

[Bug 95374] Allowed to Remove From Panel icons that have Lock To Panel marked

2007-03-24 Thread Stephen Gornick
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I believe the behavior when Lock To Panel is enabled is inconsistent
between Move and Remove From Panel.

When an icon has Lock To Panel selected, the menu selection for Move
is grayed-out (disabled) however the Remove From Panel can still be
performed regardless of the Lock To Panel setting.

If a user goes through the trouble to lock an icon, I bet it would be
fair to assume that they don't want that icon to be either moved or
accidentally removed. To then remove it, the user would then uncheck
the Lock To Panel after which time they then would be allowed to
select the Remove From Panel.

Keyboard layout being changed to 'us' when upgrading is probably related
to the problems with reconfiguring xorg (by restricted-manager?), see

Closing this report since you indicate the problem is gone once

+ Rhythmbox (via gstreamer) lacks out-of-the-box support for mp3. This is
by-design. However, the error message that is shown isn't very helpul. It
currently reads:

Playback Error: You do not have a decoder installed to handle this
file. You might need to install the necessary plugins.

It would be nice if the error message stated *what* the missing codec
was. Obviously this isn't possible (there are an unbounded number of
codecs and containers) in all cases, but it would be nice to give the
user some helpful information for the most common codecs: AAC, MP3, WMA,

[Bug 95413] gnome hijacks keys from under RTCW:ET (game) and then locks up keyboard (tilde key is the culprit)

2007-03-24 Thread rasz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

Gnome hijacks keys from under RTCW:ET (game) and then locks up keyboard.

It goes like this:
-I run standard ubuntu desktop (Feisty beta).
-I fire up ET, join a server, play a little and everything is a-ok, I can smack
every key I want, I can open console with tilde blabla
-I click tilde for the x time to read something on the console and BAM, all of
a sudden
.keyboard locks up
.ET mouse pointer is no longer the ET one (big gray one) but default Gnome
(small black with white outline).

This happens every time, it can take first try, or 1h of play, but it
will happen every time i sit to play.

Now what is happening and what I tried.
The keyboard works, but only for gnome keys and system wide (c-a-f1 for
consoles,c-a-backspace for killing X and so on), and since gnome is dumped down
for retards there is no consistent way of disabling/editing all the gnome
shortcuts (like that tilde one or even a print screen).
My current theory is like this. Somehow during my ET session gnome opens a
file manager in the background. Now when the file manager window has focus
clicking tilde key opens little input field god knows why and for what (since
gnome is for morons there is no info what is it and how to turn this 'feature'
off, that surely would 'scare the newbies' /sarcasm). This little input field
is pure magic powered (its modal) and blocks the window from being closed (open
file manager, press tilde, try to close the file manager window, yep, you have
to wait till input window mercifully goes away by its own). Few times while
locked up in the game with no keyboard input to libSDL I managed by pressing
everything like a wild monkey to make that little input window appear on my
screen ON TOP of running openGL game. Maybe by some magic bug this window pops
up under the game and doesnt want to go away by its own? Mouse works while this
is happening, my scroll wheel can scroll ET console messages, I can move the
mouse pointer (although its the gnome one, not ET).

I tried c-a-f1 to text terminal, ps aux, look for gnome stuff and kill it, it
didnt do a damn thing, nothing changed after switching back to X. This right
there is weird :/, after all I killed everything but GDM.
I tried stopping GDM, sudo xinit, and running the game in pure X, few 2-4h
sessions with zero problems while pressing the tilde key approximately 100
times.
Finally I was happily playing ET on Edgy for 2 weeks before installing Feisty
on new drive (not an upgrade, but a clean install of herd 5 plus all the
updates to this day) without this problem.

I am happy to test workarounds, debug, dig in to the code and trash the
system just to find whats going on, so please throw some ideads at me.

[Bug 95413] Re: gnome hijacks keys from under RTCW:ET (game) and then locks up keyboard (tilde key is the culprit)

2007-03-24 Thread rasz
To clarify further.
In RTCW:ET I have binded shift, ctrl, alt, caps, tab and half of the keyboards
left side. I often press ctr/alt/shift/some keys combinations. Probably one of
them makes gnome do something ... when its running full-screen libsdl game and
shouldnt be listening to the keyboard in the first place :(. Of course there is
no way to edit/disable those magic gnome shortcuts (at least not in the
options).

Also the I can move the mouse pointer means I see a mouse pointer and can
move it on game screen, but the normal Q3 engine based games behaviour is _no
cursor_ + _mouse moves around your in game view-port_.

It acts EXACTLY as if it was windowed + open console. When Q3 engine
based games are windowed + console open the rest of the system can use
the mouse and keyboard, but with console closed ONLY libsdl gets the
keystrokes (or should get).

I also tried playing windowed for 4h, keyboard hijacking never happened.

So this is one obscure bug :(. Its either libsdl or gnome.

[Bug 95450] Image Viewer 'Couldn't access deleted items folder'

2007-03-24 Thread jonj
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

Steps to reproduce:
1) Open an image in Image Viewer (EOG) that ISN'T in the /home sub-tree
2) Try to delete that image with the delete key, or from the Edit menu
3) Observe the error 'Couldn't access deleted items folder', and that the
image is not deleted

EOG will delete images in my home directory, but on any mounted
directory it doesn't seem to be able to. gThumb is able to delete (move
to deleted items) the very same images that EOG can't delete.

[Bug 95473] Resizing Evince freezes app (100% CPU)

2007-03-24 Thread Ulrich Hobelmann
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

(Evince 0.6.1, poppler 0.5.4 in Ubuntu 6.10)

When I load a very small PDF (i.e. a figure), evince sometimes starts up
with its window too small.

Resizing it (in both directions at once) results in a freeze.
Interestingly I could reproduce this more often when I started evince
from Nautilus, than when I started it from the command line (but in both
cases I can get the freeze).

From the command line there's no output, the CPU simply hits 100% until
I force quit.

** Affects: evince (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed
