This is either 'Fix Released' or 'Rejected' now. Thanks for building
with libcolorblind (so I'm marking it fixed :) ). The spec has been
deferred so we won't try to implement the UI. We are taking a new
approach in Feisty+1 with Beryl (and have a GSoC project lined up for
that).

[Bug 99932] libgtk2's library libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 calls undefined symbol gdk_font_from_description_for_display

2007-04-02 Thread Steven Van Acker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-0

libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 calls a function called
gdk_font_from_description_for_display() which is supposed to be in
libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0, but that function is deprecated according to GDK
documentation (http://developer.gnome.org/doc/API/2.0/gdk/gdk-
Fonts.html#id2638107)

Instead, libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0 defines a function
Gdk_font_from_description_for_display() which is in essence the same,
but with an uppercase first character.

I stumbled across this problem when trying to run a python program with
GTK bindings, and I think this is the easiest way to reproduce it too:

#!/usr/bin/env python
import egg.trayicon

if __name__ == __main__:
print hello world

Running this:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp$ ./test.py
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File ./test.py, line 2, in ?
import egg.trayicon
ImportError: /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol:
gdk_font_from_description_for_display
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp$

I solved the problem by using LD_PRELOAD and just mapping the function
called in libgtk-x11 to the one defined in libgdk-x11. It would probably
be best to fix the package permanently though...

I run Ubuntu Edgy and upgraded all packages.

[Bug 91734] Re: The Epilicious extension is now part of Epiphany, yet it is not built by default

2007-04-02 Thread Magnus Therning
Epilicious is now part of GNOME's bugzilla (epiphany-extensions -
epilicious) so you are welcome to post reports there.

You are likely talking about GNOME bug 418041. The patch (believed to be
the proper way to fix it) went into the 2.18 branch, revision 1473. I
can also report that Debian's epiphany-extensions package does include
epilicious. They've got a small patch that deals (partly) with locating
the glade files.

I've created another bugzilla report for the localisation issue 425304.
The fix there works in Debian.

[Bug 95454] Re: gdm slow gnome

2007-04-02 Thread maco
It's not that the new user doesn't have the problem, I don't think.
It's that you are logging out of one user and into that new user. I
just logged into my test user and the problem wasn't there. When I
logged back into myself, the problem also wasn't there. I haven't
tested it yet, but I think this means that it's on the first login that
it happens, so if I restart and login as the test user, I'll have the
problem. I'll go test that...

2007-04-02 Thread maco
OK, yeah, the bug is there with a new user if that user logs in first.

Did someone take a page out of MS's book and set things to load after
login to make the bootup time look shorter?

[Bug 99968] Next song button doesn't work as expected in Last.fm radio.

2007-04-02 Thread Luke Sandberg
Public bug reported:

When listening to Last.fm radio having a Next and a Next Song button

[Bug 99498] Re: Nautilus and hal can't umount usb hd disk

2007-04-02 Thread Alex Murray
This is also affecting a number of other users:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=398262
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=398704

Can the requires_eject policy for all usb storage devices please be
changed to false, as in general unmounting is a more desirable feature -
especially since unlike a cdrom, the device itself is not physically
ejected by the computer, and still remains electrically connected. If
some usb devices specifically require ejection custom rules should
perhaps be created for them, but to make ALL usb storage devices use
eject is wrong IMO.

The original problem occurred when 10-storage-policy.fdi was
incorporated in the lastest hal release, which was done to fix bug
#97366, but I think a better fix would simply to be to add a specific
rule in hal for ipod's as requires_eject (a similar thing was suggested
for the nokia n770 in
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal/+bug/24399 - also includes an
example fdi file for how to match the device - but it was rejected, even
though it looks like the right way to try and fix these bugs), and then
to change the desktop notification to say eject or unmount rather than
simply eject, so that we do not confuse users.

[Bug 89571] Re: rhythmbox crashed but didn't really

2007-04-02 Thread Ralf Nieuwenhuijsen
I was there when he had that crash. It is not easily reproducable. It
claimed it had crash, but it didn't. I suspect this means a program or
task rhythmbox created had crashed.

Looking at ProcStatus, it seems that its related to the indexing of
meta-data. Which would also explain why the rhythmbox program itself
wouldn't crash. My guess is: thats its a specific file that was causing
this.

Another possibility is that the file being indexed was currently locked
or still being written to. Perhaps its not so much a situation of fixing
the crash, but making it recover gracefully when the meta-data-extractor
fails. But thats just my 2 cents worth of speculation.

I believe I have found the document in question at a

address/a. I have seen this before actually, and never really thought
much of it. Maybe something to do with an odd PDF format? Will check
bugzilla tomorrow for a dupe and forward it upstream if there isn't one
unless I am directed to do otherwise before then. I will get any changes

[Bug 100052] wish: applications menu behaviour and contextmenu

2007-04-02 Thread reaby
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

At the moment usability of applications menu is something like we used
to have in past. This should be easy to implement and doesn't require
awful lot of work, but would ease use of menu and ubuntu.

When right clicking on item it brings context menu, which has:
-add this item to panel
-add this item to desktop
-add whole menu to panel / drawer

I propose that the menus should contain few more items, like:

- Add new launcher... -- alacarte / whole new dialog
- Item [new submenu]
 - Open Item
 - Hide Item
 - Delete Item
- Add item to [new submenu]
 - Panel
 - Desktop
- Add menu to [new submenu]
  - Panel
  - Desktop
- Properties... -- alacarte / whole new dialog

Also it could be handy if one could change position and organise menu
items by just drag'n'dropping them.

unix_chkpwd is setGID but /etc/shadow does not belong to the shadow

[Bug 95454] Re: gdm slow gnome

2007-04-02 Thread delfick
hmm, i got rid of my test user before and now it won't let me add a new
user (i add it, but then when i logout and try to log in under the new
user, it won't let me, i log back in under my normal login and see the
list of users, and the test one isn't there) so i can't test whether the
problem only happens to the first user for me (mine is the only user on
the computer)...

Thank you for your bug, it's not likely due to GTK. Do you have anything
to /usr/local that could take over the Ubuntu version? Where did you get
that trayicon code? Could you run ldd on the corresponding .so and copy
that to a comment?
