[Bug 99932] libgtk2's library libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 calls undefined symbol gdk_font_from_description_for_display
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-0 libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 calls a function called gdk_font_from_description_for_display() which is supposed to be in libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0, but that function is deprecated according to GDK documentation (http://developer.gnome.org/doc/API/2.0/gdk/gdk- Fonts.html#id2638107) Instead, libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0 defines a function Gdk_font_from_description_for_display() which is in essence the same, but with an uppercase first character. I stumbled across this problem when trying to run a python program with GTK bindings, and I think this is the easiest way to reproduce it too: #!/usr/bin/env python import egg.trayicon if __name__ == __main__: print hello world Running this: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp$ ./test.py Traceback (most recent call last): File ./test.py, line 2, in ? import egg.trayicon ImportError: /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol: gdk_font_from_description_for_display [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/tmp$ I solved the problem by using LD_PRELOAD and just mapping the function called in libgtk-x11 to the one defined in libgdk-x11. Epilicious is now part of GNOME's bugzilla (epiphany-extensions - epilicious) so you are welcome to post reports there. You are likely talking about GNOME bug 418041. The patch (believed to be the proper way to fix it) went into the 2.18 branch, revision 1473. I can also report that Debian's epiphany-extensions package does include epilicious. It's not that the new user doesn't have the problem, I don't think. It's that you are logging out of one user and into that new user. I just logged into my test user and the problem wasn't there. When I logged back into myself, the problem also wasn't there. This is also affecting a number of other users: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=398262 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=398704 Can the requires_eject policy for all usb storage devices please be changed to false, as in general unmounting is a more desirable feature - especially since unlike a cdrom, the device itself is not physically ejected by the computer, and still remains electrically connected. If some usb devices specifically require ejection custom rules should perhaps be created for them, but to make ALL usb storage devices use eject is wrong IMO. The original problem occurred when 10-storage-policy.fdi was incorporated in the lastest hal release, which was done to fix bug #97366, but I think a better fix would simply to be to add a specific rule in hal for ipod's as requires_eject (a similar thing was suggested for the nokia n770 in https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hal/+bug/24399 - also includes an example fdi file for how to match the device - but it was rejected, even though it looks like the right way to try and fix these bugs), and then to change the desktop notification to say eject or unmount rather than simply eject, so that we do not confuse users. -- Nautilus and hal can't umount usb hd disk https://launchpad.net/bugs/99498 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 89571] Re: rhythmbox crashed but didn't really
I was there when he had that crash. It is not easily reproducable. It claimed it had crash, but it didn't. I suspect this means a program or task rhythmbox created had crashed. Looking at ProcStatus, it seems that its related to the indexing of meta-data. Which would also explain why the rhythmbox program itself wouldn't crash. My guess is: thats its a specific file that was causing this. Another possibility is that the file being indexed was currently locked or still being written to. Perhaps its not so much a situation of fixing the crash, but making it recover gracefully when the meta-data-extractor fails. But thats just my 2 cents worth of speculation. -- rhythmbox crashed but didn't really https://launchpad.net/bugs/89571 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
