[Bug 59498] Re: .png and .wav not opening - no icon for .wav

2007-06-22 Thread Giovanni Rapagnani
Thanks to your help and some searching on google I solved the problem.
Here is the procedure :

gedit /home/YOUR_USERNAME/.local/share/mime/packages/Override.xml

suppress the following line :
  mime-type type=application/x-extension-pngcommentpng
document/commentglob pattern=*.png//mime-type

save the modification and run the 2 following commands :

sudo update-mime-database /home/YOUR_USERNAME/.local/share/mime
nautilus --quit

It solved the problem for me.
More information (in French) with some links to more information (in English)

[Bug 121683] Font DPI in Gnome wrong in Gutsy on MacBook

2007-06-22 Thread Tim Hull
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu Gutsy on my MacBook, the default font size/DPI for Gnome is
wrong.

In the case of running on the MacBook hardware natively, this means
extremely large fonts - with Gnome defaulting to 112 dpi.

In the case of running on VMware Fusion with the same resolution, this
means extremely small fonts - with Gnome defaulting to 75 dpi.

On Feisty, both configurations default to 96 dpi and have reasonably-sized
fonts. Changing to 96 dpi in Gnome (Font control panel) in Gutsy makes the
fonts better, though they are still a bit larger than they are in Feisty with
the same setting. This is wrong on two counts - 1) the fonts should be set
reasonably after install as in Feisty
2) The actual DPI of the screen is 113 dpi - at that setting the fonts would be
HUGE

Filed bug against GNOME as fonts outside of GNOME/GNOME apps are fine
and the issue hinges on GNOME's DPI setting...

[Bug 96676] Re: [feisty] function keys don't work in gnome-terminal

2007-06-22 Thread Izzy
Instead of fighting for who's fault it is: Is it somehow likely that this will
be fixed in the near future? I guess the standard user is not interested in
the fact whether the bug is because of ncurses, xterm or whatever. To me it is
completely irrelevant whether xterm follows the rules described by terminfo, or
terminfo describes the behavior of xterm - as long as the information matches
correctly (which is obviously not the case at the moment). And I think we all
agree that the current behavior is not what it should be. The version of mc is
still 4.6.1 as it already has been on Dapper, so changes here are unlikely
(and, as I pointed out in my last post, see #12 above) it works fine when
accessed remotely via ssh from a different system (in my case, RHEL4 or CentOS
4.5 to be more precise). And it is very unlikely that a bunch of apps broke the
same thing in the same manner (vim and irsii mentioned here explicitely). So it
must be some underlying thing.
From the sources I found on that issue at least to me it looks quite clear,
that only F1..F4 are affected (and in mc, for me these seem the only broken
keys as far as I can tell by now). Since xterm and gnome-terminal (and
possibly some other terms and apps as well) seem affected, it may be some
underlying library or the like. Is it possible to locate the change - and how
could we possibly help locating?

[Bug 121424] Re: Rhythmbox crashes upon launch

2007-06-22 Thread Daniel
i launched rhythmbox from gdb. it froze, and i clicked the Exit button.
a dialogue appeared asking whether or not i wanted to force quit. i
force-quit the application. however, the process did not end, so i was
unable to continue the backtrace. this screen shot

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m128/envyouraudience/rb_backtrace.png

show that 1) rhythmbox was not open, 2) the tray icon was gone, 3) the
process rhythmbox was running and uninterruptible, 4) the gdb prompt
assumed that the program did not crash. therefore, i believe that it is
impossible to get a backtrace for this problem. nevertheless, i attached
the output.

[Bug 107668] Re: Setting an invalid mount point can make a removeable media unaccessible

2007-06-22 Thread Martin Pitt
Nicolas,

thanks for your initial work. First, some comments to the patch so far:

 - gtk_editable_get_chars() (just like all glib/gtk functions) already
return a copy of the string, no need to copy it again. So you can
simplify the loop like Mikele said.

Just for some bikeshedding, I think that a for loop is a bit easier
to read:

   for (p = text; *p; ++p)
   if (*p=='/') *p='_';

But that's just a matter of style.

 - Right now it seems that the modified string is never actually written back
to the input line? This should happen, so that the user sees the correction.
 - The loop should set a flag if it replaced any character. If so, then there
should be a gtk_message_dialog which points out the error.
 - You need to g_free() the string you received from gtk_editable_get_chars()
after having finished working with it.

Happy hacking!

[Bug 102514] Re: Can't eject external USB hard drive

2007-06-22 Thread Rimas Kudelis
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 63090 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/63090

I too am suffering from this bug. When I try to eject my USB-to-IDE HDD, it
disappears from the desktop for a moment, and then comes back with an unable
to eject error message.
Furthermore, if I run sudo eject -s /dev/sdb from commandline, here's what I
get:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ $ sudo eject -s /dev/sdb
dm_task_set_name: Device /dev/mapper/sda2 not found
dm_task_set_name: Device /dev/mapper/sda5 not found

I don't get it - not only both /dev/mapper/sda2 and /dev/mapper/sda5
exist, they're on a totally different physical disk! Why is `eject`
trying to find them at all?

Could it be the case that this is happenning only to partitioned USB
media?

[Bug 96676] Re: [feisty] function keys don't work in gnome-terminal

2007-06-22 Thread Micah Cowan
Wasn't fighting for whose fault it was; was fighting whether it was a
really bug, and whether infocmp's output really was meant to describe
modified function keys. Now that that's been established, I think the
change should be relatively straightforward; assuming xterm has changed
its behavior _intentionally_, the terminfo database needs to change.
Assuming gnome-terminal has changed compatibly, that should be all. If
gnome-terminal is currently behaving differently from xterm, then gnome-
terminal would need to stop claiming to be xterm ^_^

As I mentioned, gnome-terminal _has_ changed incompatibly wrt to xterm,
in its handling of modified cursor keys and the like. AFAICT, this was
an unintentional change, however, and so the fix needs to be made in
gnome-terminal. And that's a separate bug.

A brief discussion with upstream would be good, to verify that the
terminfo needs to change. Because, if the change was intentional, it
seems like they should have updated the terminfo in the X source as
well; but the link Alex gave shows a terminfo with still-broken control
sequences.

[Bug 96676] Re: [feisty] function keys don't work in gnome-terminal

2007-06-22 Thread Izzy
OK - sounds like progress, we were just clearing up things and now the
*issue* is clear. Agree with you we need to check which package needs
the corrections: Whether xterm behaves correctly (and terminfo needs to
be fixed), or xterm is broken (which means xterm, gnome-terminal etc.
need to be fixed). The easiest way would be a fix to terminfo. Since I'm
not so familiar with this: Could someone post a work-around to
correct terminfo until the final decision is made and the fix
available? Guess it's just a few lines somewhere in
/usr/share/terminfo/x/xterm, and some call to merge the changes?

You are not supposed to have a
/home/YOUR_USERNAME/.local/share/mime/packages/Override.xml, you added
it by some way, most likely using a software. That's not an Ubuntu bug,
closing. Your new user had the same bug, that might be something you
installed and you run for every user creating the buggy one

[Bug 121696] Really annoying cut-n-paste bug

2007-06-22 Thread Ole Laursen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: glade-3

There's a really annoying cut-n-paste bug in Glade 3.2.0. Basically, it
wipes the names of the widgets. So it's really cumbersome to refactor a
window because you have to type in all the widget names from scratch
each time you move something around. The bug has already been fixed
upstream in Glade 3.2.1:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=432519
http://glade.gnome.org/

Would it be possible to get the bugfix release into Feisty Fawn? Glade
is practically unusable without it, I've had to find the old Glade 3.0
package from Hoary. Which was a PITA because it has dependencies, not to
mention that the update manager is going crazy over the old package each
time there's an (unrelated) update to Feisty.

** Attachment added: the .changes for the update

http://launchpadlibrarian.net/8160060/nautilus-cd-burner_2.18.1-0ubuntu1.1_source.changes

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: nautilus-cd-burner
+
+ nautilus-cd-burner has no Build-Depends on gnome-mount it makes CD
+ ejection not working correctly, the bug is fixed to gutsy already

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Put in a used RW medium so that it will get mounted
  2. Open nautilus-cd-burner and drag some files in.
  3. Click on the burn button
  4. You will get warned that the medium has already data on it. Click Erase
  5. You will get an error message, saying that the drive is in use

  Roughly translated from german:
  Error while writing to medium
While writing to the medium an error occurred:
The target DVD drive is still in use.

If I unmount the medium via sudo umount /media/name then it burns
  correctly.

So basically I can't use RW media without using the command line...

[Bug 121703] IMAP mail crashes when viewing message

2007-06-22 Thread richardcookson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Running evolution 2.10.1 on Ubuntu Fiesty (7.04)

When I set up an IMAP account for my home email the headings are
downloaded OK, although two identical copies of the inbox are shown.
When I click on a message to view it evolution crashes and shuts down.
Evolution can't be run after this as it tries to re-open in the same
view every time and crashes as soon as it opens. Can re run evolution
subsequently by deleting mail config and view files.

Have set up an IMAP account for my work emails with no problem on the
same Evolution installation.

Can use Thunderbird with no problems on all my IMAP accounts.

[Bug 121726] system hangs often when playing a new track

2007-06-22 Thread ibai00
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

The hang up always happens when a new track is going to be played in the
Rhythmbox (track loaded, 0'')
It doesn't matter if the song is taken from the Phonoteque, a Playlist or mi
iPod, it hangs the same.
Could it be the shuffle function?
I have Rhythmbox 0.10. and Ubuntu 07.04.

[Bug 96676] Re: [feisty] function keys don't work in gnome-terminal

2007-06-22 Thread Alex Mauer
Micah, looking in further detail at xterm's terminfo file, I found some
interesting stuff.

Its terminfo file contains multiple definitions for kf25, under multiple term
types:
xterm+pcfn: kf25=\E[46~
xterm+pcfN: kf25=\E[46~
xterm+pcf0: kf25=\EO5P
xterm+pcf1: kf25=\E[5P
xterm+pcf2: kf25=\E[1;5P
xterm+pcf3: kf25=\E[1;5P
xterm-sco: kf25=\E[k

on my ubuntu install, xterm produces the string from xterm+pcf2 ( \E1;5P )
vte would produce \EO1;5P except that ctrl-f1 is intercepted somewhere...but
ctrl+f2 produces \EO1;5Q so the point is still valid.

It looks to me as if vte is trying to do some sort of rewriting from the
pcf1 sequence to the pcf0 sequence. However, since the sequence it's
doing it on is the pcf2 sequence it's doing the wrong thing. I'm 90%
sure that's what's going on.

Which mode of xterm is vte supposed to be emulating? If it's supposed to be
'all of them' it fails:
From http://invisible-island.net/xterm/ctlseqs/ctlseqs.html:
CSI P s ; P s m
Set or reset resource-values used by xterm to decide whether to construct
escape sequences holding information about the modifiers pressed with a given
key. The first parameter identifies the resource to set/reset. The second
parameter is the value to assign to the resource. If the second parameter is
omitted, the resource is reset to its initial value.
→ 1 modifyCursorKeys
→ 2 modifyFunctionKeys
→ 4 modifyOtherKeys
--end quote--

This means that echo -e '\e[2;0m' should put xterm into pcf0 mode, and
then ctrl+f1 should generate \eO5P. On xterm it does, on vte it doesn't.
same for \e[2;1m, \e[2;2m, and \e[2;3m

and decide what to do. I'm going to go ahead and mark this and
confirmed.

[Bug 121696] Re: Really annoying cut-n-paste bug

2007-06-22 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The bug is fixed in gutsy. There was no glade-3 in hoary and you can use
glade-2 if you want. We might backport the change if somebody provides a
patch fixing this specific bug, we are not going to upload a new version
to a stable distribution though. You can also try to open a backport
request for the gutsy version if you want

[Bug 121757] Screen Rex was 1280x 768 and now is 1024x768

2007-06-22 Thread Mahatmark
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Hi...I have installed this Ubuntu 7.04 2 times ..after scrubbing my disk
as..I had ..set the amount of 2nd disk useage to the default 54% and I
wanted more..so I scrubbed both drives..back to FAT 32..clean install
mode..( i have done this before with earlier versions of Knoppix, Fedora
and Ubuntu ) this newest release actually gave me 1280 dpi screen
rezolution ..when I first installed it..but now I can only get 1024
About my PC its custom built tower with ASUS P4R800V motherboard
..Pentium 43.02ghz and great sound cardI was getting great
screen rez...now..2 days later I am not I have a second drive that is
Windows XP and the ATI graphics card there..gives me as much as 1600dpi
I have the windows side of the computer set to 1280x768 dpi and its a
much wider view than this current situation..but in all honesty the bug
seems to have occurred between the first install and the 2nd
install..as originally I had 1280 rez ..also sounds overlap now
too..and..many of the old familiar KDE sounds ..play at the same time
as the ALSA or Gnomitus sounds etcIn short great program..and I
have been a Linux user since SuSe vs 9.1 when KDE was vs 3.2...I prefer
KDE and tried installing Kubuntu 7.04 the other day too..and it only
gave me 1024 screen rez yet my neighbor has it and has 1280 rez on
Ubuntu and I did ..and on wiondows side ..where the ATI cvard is..I
do get up to 1600 dpi so I am curious if this is a bug or do I have to
scrub disks and..go for the default installation which gives me to
small of a partitioned 2nd hard drive ???...

Sorry for all the words otherwise this program works great ..music
video and all codecs work ..but I dont know how to get my 1280 screen
rez back ???

Please try to obtain a backtrace from
