[Bug 43572] Re: Dell Laptops don't talk to HAL about brightness correctly

2007-07-06 Thread Huygens
Roberto,
On my Dell D600, I could also use the Fn Keys to increase and decrease the
brightness, and the brightness applet was not working before too. After I have
performed the instructions, when I use those keys, it is behaving as before
(from an end user point of view). I mean, if I press once on decrease, it
decrease them once.
Also, the modification are easily undone. Basically, you install an updated
version of the libsmbios, and by using Synaptic, it is pretty easy to restore
the official version from Ubuntu 7.04.

[Bug 124375] Gnome doesn't focus after app operation an already open app

2007-07-06 Thread Enola Gay
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

If I open a link in mail program. im or something like that and Firefox
is not running it is started and gets a focus but if Firefox is already
running the link gets loaded in Firefox but the mail program still has
the focus so you think nothing happens. The most annoying problem is
that Firefox opens for some operation like downloads a new window. If
you change back to main Firefox and click another download which appears
in the opened popup you have to change manually to it. But this is not
only Firefox specific since it doesn't happen in KDE or Windows afaik.
Same happens with Totem and I guess many more appliations which allow
only one instance.

If someones want to check it.
1. Open Nautilus and make it full screen.
2. Open a video in Totem.
3. Change back to Nautilus.
4. Start another video with Totem.
= Totem plays the new video but doesn't get focused.

Same happens with Evolution. If it is already running and you start it
again another instance is started but it gets not focused. This doesn't
happen if no Evolution is running.

It is very likely that people click several times on a file until they
realize.

[Bug 124372] Install - prepare disk space - hung when using the new partition slider

2007-07-06 Thread xan.todd
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Chose the 'guided' option, changed the slider a little, then chose the manual
option and looked at the options there, came back and chose 'guided' again,
moved the slider to left and right approx halfway - application stopped
responding to human input and will not close.

Have not attempted to reproduce.

I'm wondering if libsmbios will need to be moved from Universe to Main before

It would be great to have some developer guidance on this as it seems
there is little left to be done if we knew what to do.

[Bug 49516] Re: rhythmbox album browser says All 1 album

2007-07-06 Thread Alec Wright
Using 0.11.0-0ubuntu4 in gutsy, I have a 1 album item. This is
unnesscassary, becuase it's exactly the same as the actual album itself.
Also, it doesn't look nice. Other people might disagree but I don't
think you should ever start soemthing with a number. 1 should be changed
to One. album should be changed to Album too, if the item's staying.

[Bug 124383] Re: epiphany crashed with SIGSEGV

2007-07-06 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The wishlist was a click error. The flash9 crash is something than we can't fix
and neither does Novell and RedHat since the source code is not available.
About the application which should not crash due to a plugin that's a known
firefox issue and there is already other bugs open about it. The bug has been
closed because the crash was due to the plugin which can't be changed and had
no description, if your problem was that the software should be robust to this
crash a description would make the communication easier.

2007-07-06 Thread Facundo Batista
Gaele, note that after I have the problem with the DVD, I went to the
shop and changed it. I bought a Pioneer DVR-110, and it worked great.

So, maybe, the problem is not solved, this hardware just works in
Feisty.

(BTW, I contacted LG, telling about the problem, they told me we don't
support Linux, so I answered Ok, I'll change it for another brand, and
I'll never buy LG hardware again, thanks; we should do this more
often...).

[Bug 64301] Re: Unable to unlock screen when using ldap

2007-07-06 Thread Emu
The problem can also be due to encrypted connections to the LDAP server
since the private key must be readable by root only. In older versions
of ubuntu (at least Dapper Drake) the following commands fixed the
problem:

chmod +s /usr/lib/gnome-screensaver/gnome-screensaver-dialog
chmod +s /usr/bin/kcheckpass

But due to the SUID/SGID bits possible security holes are opened.

Under Feisty Fawn even this does not work anymore! A connection of the
screensavers to the LDAP server over nscd would (as suggested above)
should be the best solution.
