[Bug 92879] Re: gnome-sound-recorder unable to playback

2007-07-29 Thread Boris Dušek
OK, see my last comment in upstream bugzilla - gnome-media from SVN,
both with and without the proposed patch applied, exhibit the same buggy
behavior. So it's not this patch that introduces the new regression, but
either some other changes in grecord (which seems very inactive though),
or other libraries.

In other words, testing on Gutsy can't indicate whether it fixes things
for Feisty, so could please someone make a testing .deb for Feisty? (or
point me to some instructions on how to do it? :-)

The libdvdcss library looks to be loaded but still the error message
and in ability to watch the DVD. Are you using a 64 bit OS by anychance?

[Bug 81239] Re: Cannot unmount volume: not very helpful error message

2007-07-29 Thread Bruin
I have a similar problem. When trying to disconnect/unmount my usb hard
drive (Samsung SpinPoint) by right-clicking the icon on the desktop, I
get the 'cannot eject volume' error message and the drive reopens.

The only way to unmount the volume for me is using the console:
sudo umount /media/disk

I don't get the error message when unmounting cd's, dvd's, flashdrives
and usbsticks by right-clicking the icons on the desktop.

Funny thing is that this problem first occurred since I did a fresh
reinstall of Feisty. Until the day before yesterday I ran Feisty from an
upgraded Edgy install and I didn't have this problem.

[Bug 129039] compiz-fusion breaks opengl support in Gutsy

Beryl did not have this problem, I'm not even sure the original compiz had this
problem.

Its most annoying, because it means I have to turn desktop effects off

[Bug 129037] screen stuck faded out when exiting SDL applications

2007-07-29 Thread James \Doc\ Livingston
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

When using a fullscreen SDL application (usually a game), gnome-
screensaver correctly doesn't start the screen-saver while I'm using the
application. However about one time out of four, the screen will fade
out as soon as the application exits, and it will not fade back in,

[Bug 125072] Re: when full-screen, rhythmbox is always on visible workspace.

when rhythmbox is full screen (called Party mode, from the menu: 'View-Party
Mode F11' ), it is always on the visible workspace: when i switch to a
different workspace (using ctrl-alt-left for instance), rbox just moves with me.
This is the same behaviour windows have if you set them to be 'Always on
Visible Workspace' from the menu (other choices would be 'Always on top' and
'Only on this workspace'.

To compare, Epiphany for example does full screen (also F11) more like i
would expect.

[Bug 128781] panel gtk tooltips remain indefinitely

2007-07-29 Thread Martin Pool
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I just installed Gutsy on a laptop previously running Feisty, the
configuration is otherwise unchanged.

Many gtk tooltips now seem to remain on the screen for an unbounded
time, until I move the mouse over them, when they disappear. Just now
the computer is now running on ac power remained up for over a minute.
I don't think this behaviour was in Feisty and I don't like it, I'm
always having to wipe them off the screen. These are not the
notification bubbles with [x] buttons: they're fine because they clearly
require explicity dismissal. I've also seen this happen with the
tooltips on panel buttons.

[Bug 128690] Re: Disable automatic resizing by default

2007-07-29 Thread Martin
Initial window size depend on the video resolution is probably bad too
btw. Just let user's watch videos in the size they prefer. :)

Perhaps the problem is that Totem's default window size is too small?
Perhaps it could be set to something like 2/3 of the screen size instead
of 466x436? (Video nerds who are in to techno bable like resolution,
high-definition video and what not shouldn't be too disapointed... and
if they happen to stumble upon a small video... so what, scaling is soo
good that it probably doesn't matter.)

debugger to step in and help. Obviously, this is not the case, so the
process dies.

Probably programming error, but dont quote me.

[Bug 129105] Panel applets don't load on subsequent login

2007-07-29 Thread Darren Adams
Public bug reported:

[I seem to be suffering the effects of LP bug #112558, but found no way
to reopen that bug, so reporting again]

When I first log into gnome, all of my applets will load. But on
subsequent logouts / logins, many of these applets refuse to load. The
applets I use are:

* OnTV
* Tomboy notes
* Weather report
* Mixer applet
* Music applet
* Multiload applet
* Trash applet

Strangely some other applets load on subsequent logins without problem.
Some other applets seem to load without issue. They are:

* Separator applet
* Show desktop applet
* Notification area

Launcher icons aren't affected either.

The only clues about what seems to be happening are the errors in my
.xsession-errors file so I'll attach that to this bug report.

Other details:

[Bug 129039] need to enable undirect_fullscreen_windows by default

2007-07-29 Thread Ralf Nieuwenhuijsen
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: compiz

Beryl did not have this problem.

Steps to reproduce:
  1. Try an openGL screensaver
  2. Turn desktop effects ON
  3. Try the same screensaver again

The framerate has dropped to like 10 frames per second.
Beryl did not have this problem, I'm not even sure the original compiz had this
problem.

Its most annoying, because it means I have to turn desktop effects off
everytime I want to play a game. I didn't need to do this in the past
(when I was using Beryl on Feisty)

I have an NVidia card. It was installed using restricted drivers
manager.

[Bug 92879] Re: gnome-sound-recorder unable to playback

2007-07-29 Thread Boris Dušek
@Sebastian: thanks, I will now know for the future

@jhasse: :-) I guess I will have to visit my eye doctor ;-)

I tested the patched version on Feisty with the deb provided at comment
#28 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
media/+bug/92879/comments/28). The new regression that is in SVN is not
present, so I recommend it the new package for inclusion in feisty-
backports (maybe in feisty updates after some more testing?).

On another note, this application still has interesting behavior, like
when you save the file, and then record again without saving, and play
back, then not the new recording, but the old saved version is played
back. But this is there no matter whether the patch in question is
applied or not, the reason is simply that this application is not being
developed.

After reporting this bug, I used Evolution to check my email. I noticed
that the Exchange portion of my mail (which I use to check into work

Re: [Bug 92879] Re: gnome-sound-recorder unable to playback

2007-07-29 Thread Balaji
Thanks Boris,

So you mean this is fine on Feisty.

About the interasting behavior, I would expect it to behave that way for
one reason at least - if I were recording and saved a sample, I should not
overwrite that file, till I explicitly save it back on that file. It would
be nice, if the application could automatically call 'Save As' for all
future saves. But I know that it can get quite annoying when not intended.
Perhaps we could have an option to fix that?

I don't know, but looks like the problem I was having with saving this audio
file is now solved.

Hoping that this patch will be uploaded and backported to Feisty.

Thanking Sebastian a lot for his efforts,
Balaji

[Bug 129122] gdm fails to start after fresh install of gutsy nightly (AMD64 alternate). Trivial fix

2007-07-29 Thread RichardNeill
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

I've just done an install of AMD-64 Alternate CD (to get RAID), using the
nightly build (28th July) of gutsy. No graphical login appeared, so I had to
install and start sshd by blind typing. The problem is very simple:

1) /etc/init.d/gdm  refers to:
  DEFAULT_DISPLAY_MANAGER_FILE=/etc/X11/default-display-manager
  DAEMON=/usr/sbin/gdm

2)/etc/X11/default-display-manager contains the line
  /usr/bin/gdm

3)When /etc/init.d/gdm compares these two, they don't match, so no display
manager runs. Instead, I get the error:
  * Not starting GNOME Display Manager (gdm); it is not the default display
manager.

4)The fix is very simple: correct /etc/X11/default-display-manager so that it
reads   /usr/sbin/gdmNOT /usr/bin/gdm
