[Bug 131658] [gutsy] totem browser-plugin makes firefox-granparadiso crash

2007-08-10 Thread Ubulette
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Firefox Granparadiso (currently 3.0 alpha 7) crashes with missing
symbols in totem plugin.

Most of those could be fixed by adding -L/usr/lib/firefox -lxpcom (ie
linking with Firefox 2 as usual) so at runtime, Firefox 3 also knows it
has to load -lxpcom (but from its own /usr/lib/firefox-granparadiso
following its own LD_LIBRARY_PATH).

I have a working patch that does just that.

After this patch, there's still one remaining missing symbol: nsMemory::Clone
Problem is this symbol was in -lxpcom before, it is now only in libxpcomglue.a
(which is in Firefox SDK that's now in firefox-granparadiso-dev in gutsy, but
unfortunately not in firefox-dev).

Instead of messing with compilation options, I thought it was better to
not use that symbol, which is used only 3 times in the whole totem
source tree.

I'm made a second (working) patch.

I hope you'll consider those patches so that firefox 3 users can also
use totem plugin, like I do now.

In the long term, it would be better to stop compiling against firefox-
dev but use xulrunner sdk (that will be packaged hopefully soon by the
MozillaTeam).

patches follow.

[Bug 131556] Re: Tooltips block further input events to menus

2007-08-10 Thread Andreas Schildbach
On my system, it takes anywhere from 1 to 10 seconds for the panel
tooltips to go away. This means that the Desktop can be blocked for 10
seconds.

I just checked with the tooltips from within Firefox (e.g. back icon),
and they disappear immediately.

Note that I have switched off Desktop Effects, since with Effects
enabled the time for tooltips to disappear would be even longer.

those patches were made against SVN sources. Should apply cleanly on

Not posted upstream as they already have the libxpcomglue detection code

[Bug 118745] Re: Font sizes in Gutsy are vulnerable to bad X.org DPI detection

2007-08-10 Thread Bryce Harrington
Fwiw, bulletproof-x is just a failsafe mode for X, and wouldn't have any
bearing on this issue.

It sort of sounds like the issue here is that Gnome is guessing the
correct dpi by looking at the refresh rates. Unfortunately, in most
cases the refresh rates are themselves just guesses done by the xorg
postinstall script when xresprobe fails to detect the card (which
happens a lot). If this is indeed the case, then basing a guess on top
of a guess is bound to lead to rather unpredictable failures.

In talking with seb128 about this, it sounds like the best option for
now is to go back to a hardcoded dpi setting.

Assuming my hypothesis is correct, a couple workarounds to try would be
to a) try running with no xorg.conf. b) try fixing the HorizSync and
VertRefresh settings in the Monitor section of your xorg.conf (see your
monitor for correct settings). No guarantees that this would fix things
in all circumstances, but if they fix it in at least some, then that is
added evidence that the core issue here is mis-detected refresh rates
(which is bug 3731).

[Bug 13415] Re: Controls are sluggish

2007-08-10 Thread Trouilliez vincent
 Is this still valid?

It has improved a lot (gstreamer version).

Only remaining issues is a little lag in the volume control, and the
seek bar which produces glitches because it keeps playing the music
WHILE the seek bar is being operated, instead of waiting for user to
release the mouse button, to resume playback.

Maybe I should open a new/seperate bug regarding the seek bar issue, to
keep things tidy in the bug tracker and make it easier to follow up ?

Re: [Bug 64953] Re: Evolution resends old mail after power failure

2007-08-10 Thread Petri Launiainen
I have not reported it upstream due to time constraints (and due to the
fix I found and managed to cure my system).

Basically, if the index file of Outbox gets screwed up (out of sync),
this problem appears. The easy fix would be to zero the length of Outbox
related files every time Evolution is sure that it has succesfully sent
out all pending mail. This way, the problem would never show up.

Otherwise deleting the index file manually will do.

Actually, the correct URL to upstream list mail is:

Just to clarify, since I was scratching my head today following the
link.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

Performed online update from feisty to gutsy, twelve hours of packages

rebooted, X runs but only into a fail-safe session

[Bug 131556] Re: Tooltips block further input events to menus

2007-08-10 Thread ashayh
I would like to confirm this bug.

I'm using Gutsy Tribe 4 with Desktop effects and nvidia restricted
drivers.

Basically, the tool tip does not immediately disappear when you move the mouse,
and all further input seems blocked.
I say seems blocked, because the input does not actually register until the
tool tip disappears.

It takes anywhere from 1 second to 3-4 seconds for the tool tip to
disappear.

In the video, I click as fast as possible on top of sda2 icon and the
Terminal icon AFTER the tool tip appears, but clicks do not register until the
tool tip disappears.

Check 40 second mark in video for best example.

[Bug 109192] Re: Lacks sync option for iPod

2007-08-10 Thread Tony Yarusso
There's more to it than that actually. Rhythmbox will physically put
the files on the iPod, but will not update the DB, and without that you
can't play the files on the iPod itself on-the-go until that is fixed.
(at least this is true on my new nano that I just started using)

[Bug 131739] Cannot place Home Folder icon on Desktop - you cannot copy a folder into itself

2007-08-10 Thread Stephen Gornick
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I wish to place an icon on the desktop for the home folder (
/home/USERNAME ). In Feisty I used to be able to do this by selecting
Places, then dragging the icon for the Home Holder using SHIFT+ mouse to
drag the icon to the desktop. That action would create a nautilus-
home.desktop launcher on the desktop.

When I try to do that in Gutsy I get a dialog with the message: You
cannot copy a folder into itself. The message then shows The
destination folder is inside the source folder..

[Bug 131740] gtk memory corruption found with electric-fence

2007-08-10 Thread Peter Clifton
Public bug reported:

I linked an application (gshchem, part of the Ubuntu package geda-
gschem), against electric fence whilst doing development work on it.

Electric-fence doesn't get into the application code due to some problem
it has detected with GTK its-self.

A gut feeling I had was to try and reporoduce it with a program I've
seen crash recently, which was evolution. This also crashes in a very
similar way. gtk-demo doesn't crash.

Back-traces attached soon.

For evolution, to reproduce:

apt-get install electric-fence

sudo bash -l
(as root)
ulimit -c unlimited
sudo -u me bash -l
(as my user)
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libefence.so evolution

then:

gdb --core=core evolution

to get the backtrace (had to install some -dbgsym packages of course).

For gschem, I built with its configure option to link directly against
electric-fence.

Seems like the crashes have loading icons / themes in common.

Re: [Bug 109127] Re: Startup Issues

2007-08-10 Thread someotherguy
Oddly enough it was a hardware issue involving my motherboard. I tried to
install windows with the same problem. Some odd error caused the system to
go into hibernate over and over again. Amazingly you could still operate
within Ubuntu if you can get past the annoying error messages, you can't fix
the issue in Windows (but I'm sure that doesn't surprise you)

Gutsy.  You’re right, this appears to have been fixed since my report;
closing.
