Right. Preferably you should submit the bug to the Gnome bug tracker,
so that it can be inspected by upstream. Getting a solution which
upstream adopts is much better than maintaining a difference in
Ubuntu, since it both creates more work and introduces inconsistency
in behaviour.

[Bug 155367] Re: Gnome Icon has on the right bottom an artefact

2007-10-22 Thread Arnaud
Hello,

Further info with this screenshot. I have put a red line where the artefact
appears.
I guess it might be the remaining of the icon of Gdesklets, as we could see
this icon on Feisty, but not anymore on Gusty. I have upgraded my release via
internet (synaptic). Maybe it wouldn't have appeared like that if I had
upgraded from a new CD, erasing feisty ???
But anyway, if this icon can't be displayed, or if there is no more icon, we
should have nothing instead of that.

I have to say it doesn't appear always.

It's just strange ;-).

Hi,

Dvd autoplays fine, but brings up an error message if opened from
 File-Play Disk.
Doesn't display subtitles or bring up any menus...
 After a whole year...

I know it's not recommended, but I am afraid I am going to have to do
what I always did before: Install totem-xine... :(

well, I can't really comment on the topic, because I didn't dive into
the depths of gstreamer/xine for a really long time. But I can say a few
words on DVD playback. I really like VLC (Video Lan Client), so I've
been using it. It does play DVDs with menu support (IIRC) once vlc and
libdvdcss are installed. Also it's a rather slim media-player, so I like
it ;-) Although I think, it doesn't integrate as well as gstreamer, so
it's not really an option. But probably it could be associated with DVD
playing (only)? Just as a temporary solution until gstreamer is complete
in that function?

Ciao.

[Bug 155706] [UBUNTU/Gutsy]:Graphical issues using compiz-fusion with nvidia GPU equiped system

2007-10-22 Thread nioubee
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Hello,

I run Ubuntu v7.10 (Gutsy).(French version cause I'm French ;-) ) and would
like to use the wonderful Compiz-Fuzion without all those problems..
I'm a new user of Linux/GNU OS (Ubuntu has been is installed on my desktop for
a few days)
My system: intel p4 1.4Ghz, Nividia GF 5200, 256Mo SDRAM, 40Go HDD.
My Ubuntu is fresh given that I make every update with the update manager.

Issues encountered that I depaint below are known in the community, but
remain still unsolved. I think I've tried everything I could before
posting here.

The issues:

-the terminal became a big white rectangular
-No frame nor Title bar for ALL windows I open
-Bugs running the multi screen manager: I would like to get a CLone of my main
screen on My TV with is connected to the TV-out. same problems running
nvidia-settings in a terminal windows (blind mode for me, given that terminal
window is all blank..)

The solutions I've tried to fix it:

-Editing the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file adding
Option AddARGBGLXVisuals True
Option TripleBuffer true
at the end of the device section of it

-activing the option décoration des fenetres (in english it could be
windows frame or something like that) in the effects section of CCSM
(Advanced desktop Effects Settings =CompizConfig configuration system).

-adding the command line emerald –replace or metacity –replace in
the CCSM =effects=décoration des fenetres=general settings.

-udating the system

-asking on forums..

The only solution I've found to Get both the TV-out active and recover
Complete windows appearence (Frame+title bar) is to step backward by
inactiving Compiz -Fusion : Systeme=préférences=apparence=effets
visuels=normal..

Is this bug still unfixable?

Tell me I've been right, quiting MS Windows...

Thankx for helping !!

[Bug 155709] Taking a long time to open Nautilus windows

2007-10-22 Thread DivineOmega
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

After upgrading from Feisty Fawn to Gutsy Gibbon, Nautilus is taking a
very long time to open new windows. When opening a new window from an
existing Nautilus window (or a desktop icon) this delay is not present.
The delay only appears to occur when opening Nautilus directly (via the
terminal or 'Run Application' dialog) or when an item from the Places
menu is clicked.

The delay is usually around 10 seconds in length.

This problem is only present on my work desktop where I upgraded from
stable Feisty to stable Gutsy and not present on my home desktop where I
installed fresh from around Tribe 5.

[Bug 155726] use nautilus's frame for thumbnails

2007-10-22 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

When you press F9 while using Evince, a side pane with thumbnails
appears. These thumbnails should use the same frame used by nautilus,
which can be found in /usr/share/pixmaps/nautilus. It is more
aesthetically pleasing and would improve consistency, since EOG is
already using that frame in its own collection viewer.

[Bug 66104] Re: scim: input freezes in various applications under XIM mode

2007-10-22 Thread Christoph Bloch
Ming and Arne: Thank your for the quick answers.

Arne: OK, I installed the patch (or, more precisely: I added your two
lines to my apt sources and then the automatic updater proposed to
install new versions of libx11-6 and libx11-data, which I accepted)

Some quick testing shows that I can probably use my linux (xubuntu 7.10) with
scim now! Thunderbird does not get blocked every 2 minutes any more. Thanks!
I'll tell you if old or new problems occur.

Just a strange thing: Unlike other updates, the ppa versions keep showing in
the automatic updater: Other updates, 2 entries, both wanting to upgrade to
the now installed version:
- libx11-6, X11 client-side library, from version 2:1.1.1-1ubuntu5~ppa1 to
2:1.1.1-1ubuntu5~ppa1 (Size: 592 KB)
- libx11-data, X11 client-side library, from version 2:1.1.1-1ubuntu5~ppa1 to
2:1.1.1-1ubuntu5~ppa1 (Size: 201 KB)

Is this something to worry about? Should I just delete the two entries
from the apt sources list? Forgive me my beginner questions, and tell me
to go somewhere else if this is not the right place to ask them :-)

Have a good day
Christoph

[Bug 155729] volume control widget should always appear

2007-10-22 Thread David Prieto
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When you reduce the size of Rhythmbox's window, several buttons
disappear from the user's view and are replaced by an arrow that, when
clicked, shows a menu with the hidden buttons.

The volume control widget disappears too, but doesn't even appear in the
afforementioned. So a user who reduces Rhythmbox's size will find no way
to change the volume unless he actually expands or maximises the window.

This widget is vital for a pleasing experience where everything feels
right, so please keep RB from hiding it even when the window becomes too
small to show all the buttons.

[Bug 155733] metacity focus stealing prevention does not seem to be working at all

2007-10-22 Thread Lars Wirzenius
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

There are some other bugs reported about focus stealing in metacity, but
this seems like a new thing: I've asked around and it seems that
prevention of focus stealing worked in releases before 7.10 (gutsy). It
does not seem to work for me at all.

*Every* time any application opens a new window, it gets focus, even if
I'm furiously typing into the previously active window. This is very
annoying with some applications, such as update-manager, which open
several dialog-type windows for progress bars and such.

Since the whole update process happens relatively often, and can take
minutes in total, this is almost completely preventing me from doing any
useful work while it is going on.

However, it also happens with, say, windows for plugged in USB sticks,
browser windows (whether because the browser take tens of seconds to
start up or popup windows on sites), and all other sorts of windows so
far.

[Bug 155732] Leaving long message in gnome-screensaver locks system

2007-10-22 Thread kimbja98
Public bug reported:

Typing or pasting large amounts of text within the leave message box and
pressing save cause the system to stop responding to user input, forcing a
reboot.
This can be tested by typing something in the message box and copying/pasting
recursively though I have not narrowed down exactly how much text causes the
crash.
There ought to be a character limit and possibly a number of messages/second
limit to avoid this situation.
It could be suggested via a dialogue box that the message leaver (upon
exceeding the above conditions) email the user instead (to an address supplied
by the user at configuration time. Such emailing would have to be done from
the message leaver's computer of course).

If pasting was not allowed:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/146862
this bug would be harder to reproduce.

[Bug 155731] Events in Evolution calendar dissapear after a few seconds

2007-10-22 Thread Diego Gaustein
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Hi. I'm having two very weird issues with Evolution calendar the
gnome-deskbar calendar applet.

First: I'm in America/Buenos Aires/Argentina. I've subscribed my Google
Calendar with Evolution, and it used to work OK in Feisty. Since I've
upgraded to Gusty, events show up OK in Evolution, but they're 3 hours
behind on the applet (5pm - 2pm). If an event crosses the day barrier,
then it's displayed on the wrong day. I'll upload a screenshot.

Second: My events dissapear after a few seconds. Since it's hard to
explain, I'll upload a small video.

$ evolution --version

$ uname -a
2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Sun Oct 14 23:05:12 GMT 2007 i686 GNU/Linux
