[Bug 174341] after last update of libcairo2 , many aplication crashed

2007-12-06 Thread lly
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libcairo2

Yesterday, I update my ubuntu gutsy, contain the package libcairo2, from
libcairo2_1.4.10-1ubuntu4_i386 to libcairo2_1.4.10-1ubuntu4.1_i386.
after that, many program crashed unexceptionally with this information:
Floating point exception (core dumped) , such as
firefox/thunderbird/mousepad/leadpad and so on.

Then I download libcairo2_1.4.10-1ubuntu4_i386.deb manually, and
execute: sudo dpkg -i libcairo2_1.4.10-1ubuntu4_i386.deb, then
everything is ok agian.

there are many people like me , see:
http://forum.ubuntu.org.cn/viewtopic.php?t=93410

BTW: I'm useing gnome+compiz.

[Bug 174088] Re: gnome-panel hangs

2007-12-06 Thread VijayR
Hello. This is happening on a development box, I'm loathe to install dbg
packages on it...I've subsequently discovered further information,
hopefully, you may be able to track the bug down now?

I'm using sawfish with viewports:
% cat ~/.sawfishrc
(define-special-variable viewport-dimensions '(3 . 3) Size of each virtual
workspace.)

And this bug shows up only if I enable window list to show windows from
all workspaces. So, the bug most probably is in that code, which
notifies the window list about windows on different workspaces/viewports
or in the panel/window-list handler which handles this notification.

2007-12-06 Thread Jonathan Ernst
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution-data-server

Multiple times per day I have to killall evolution-data-server to be
able to unfreeze my pidgin chat windows. (The pidgin chatwindow becomes
dark (I guess it's compiz default way to show an unresponsive
application) and new messages aren't shown until I kill evolution-data-
server. I guess something is wrong with evolution-data-server and
pidgin-evolution integration.

[Bug 138343] Re: evince consumes a lot of memory (1.5 GB VM)

2007-12-06 Thread LuitvD
I have the same on my machine. I was puzzled by the excessive use of swap on my
laptop (amd64 with 800MB RAM) so I disabled swap and waited for something to
fail. It happened when I was scrolling through an ADC0804 datasheet (simple
chip datasheet with quite an amount of images). It suddenly failed to move my
mouse easily, and shortly after Evince disappeared, and took OpenOffice Writer
down with it.
A next try with swap turned back on showed that Evince was using 500 MiB of
memory (not VM, just regular memory space) which made my laptop dump half of
it's system memory to swap, making it slow and unresponsive.

[Bug 164971] Re: Gnome freezes after moving or deleting many files

2007-12-06 Thread Max-Ulrich Farber
There have some new important details been observed since, even if we
could not get a useful logfile yet:

When audio preview is activated, but not working for there is no esound
installed, a new pipe is opened whenever the mouse is moved over a
symbol of a mp3-file (You can see that with lsof -c nautilus). That can
lead very quickly to a huge number of open files, and Nautilus will
freeze quite soon.

After deactivating audio preview the number of open pipes does not
increase any more by moseover, but it still does increase by handling
mp3-files, so that the same bug still can happen, but later than before
and not so often. Obviously there are other programs (perhaps players or
plugins) who do open pipes.

Even if this bug is not a problem of Nautilus itself, it is very
ennoying, and new users will loose confidence in Ubuntu when observing
such problems! It should absolutely be fixed soon with a official
developpers patch!

[Bug 164640] Re: Build Firefox 3 against a subpixel-patched cairo

2007-12-06 Thread Fabien Tassin
There are numerous problems with system cairo 1.4.10 compared to patched
mozilla cairo 1.5.2-55.
1st, system cairo has tons of fatal asserts, making firefox crash in different
locations with ugly messages. Mozilla turned asserts non-fatal as they deal
with errors they think important and ignore the rest.
2nd, mozilla fixed a number of issues (performance, glyphs, bad repaints,
printing issues, etc), some (most?) merged into system 1.5.*.

From a user perspective, system 1.4.10 will appear somewhat slower and will
have more visual artifacts, not to mention that the associated bugs will not
be supported by mozilla.
You are requesting improvements for subpixel, yet the patch decreases overall
quality for everyone. That's a 6+ months regression of mozilla improvements/bug
fixes.

It would be better to have that subpixel patch accepted upstream by cairo, or
at least by mozilla.
Or hardy could ship a patched 1.5.* (I don't know if it's even possible).

[Bug 173971] Re: libgtk2.0 crashes at execution; gtk+2.0_2.12.2-1 OK

2007-12-06 Thread U. B.
What is incorrect, what extra information do you need or miss?

After updating to 2.12.3-1 it still crashes.

This is the diff in the libs used (ldd | sort):
- libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 = /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0
 # CRASHES
+ libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 = /tmp/gtk_only/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0# WORKS

In this setup I only use the libgtk compiled locally (leaving the
locally compiled libgdk* alone).

The locally compiled gtk I use is
http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/g/gtk+2.0/gtk+2.0_2.12.2.orig.tar.gz
compiled simply with ./configure --prefix /some/dir, then make, make install.

Trying instead to use:
/usr/lib/debug/usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0.1200.3
from libgtk2.0-0-dbg 2.12.3-1
produces a crash with no information:

[Bug 172776] Re: Clicking on DEL immediately send file to trash bin

2007-12-06 Thread Marc K.
1. Open gedit, have the file browser displayed in the side panel.

2. Edit any file. Let's say you want to delete a character but somewhat
you decided to do it later after you check for some other files you
have.

3. Click on any file in the file browser (so the keyboard focus is now
on the selected file). Note that you set your Nautilus action
preferences to double click, not single click, so clicking on the file
simply focus the keyboard on the file, not opening it.

4. Drink come coffee. The idea is that your brain does not remember the
details of what you were doing (sometimes it happens when you're my age,
btw). All you have is a vague idea that you need to delete some
character.

5. Go back to gedit. Your see the file you are editing, you remember
that you wanted to delete the stupid character so you press the DEL
button on your keyboard.

6. The file with the focus (the one in the file browser side panel which
still has the keyboard focus) immediately goes to the trash bin, despite
your preferences to have Nautilus ask you before you delete a file. You
don't even realize that the file is gone because your eyes are on the
character and you are busy wondering why is it that you pressed the DEL
key and the stupid character is still there.

This is definitely a File Roller bug. It doesn't affect the command-line
tools. They can be used for the task just fine assuming that the file
names are properly escaped.

Looks like File Roller, on the other hand, does not properly escape the
file names when using 7z. Upstream bugzilla claims [1] that a similar
bug has been fixed in SVN, and the fix seems to be trivial.
