i can confirm that with intrepid alpha 6 and gnumeric 1.8.3-3ubuntu2 the processor is at 100% for a very long time after loading the help file with help/contents. however, if you wait long enough it will go back to 0%. my guess is that the help engine (yelp 2.24.0-0ubuntu1) does some work with the loaded help file in the background. i get similar results when loading other help files in yelp. i am unsure this is a bug. i change from affects gnumeric to yelp. questions: can you please confirm that the cpu returns to 0% if you wait for a long time? also, do you know if the same problem exists in previous versions of xubuntu? -- Gnumeric help 100% loads processor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/268845 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to yelp in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 270523] Re: Rhythmbox fails at starting playback on doubleclick / argument passing
Bug #179110 talks about auto playback at rhythmbox start, I don't think that is the same as this bug? Anyhow, thanks for the hint, as I have been able to find out more about the problem. It seems that trying to play a file (through command-line options) which does not reside in my library results in (a) nothing, or (b) playback of the currently selected album in the Music tab. The same test with a file listed in my library, results in correct playback. So it depends whether the file I want to play, is already in my library, or not. Note that this, the most significant issue in my opinion, could be easily addressed by restoring the lost functionality to the logout button. If that would actually be easy to do, sure. However, my gut feeling says it should actually be easier to just pretend that the new f-u-s-a applet is just the replacement of the old logout applet? It already provides all the logout/shutdown/etc. options. Ted, do you have a qualified estimate of how much work either option would be? I think I'm going to try and be a little verbose here, just to ensure that we're all talking about the same thing and that others (and perhaps me) aren't confused in the thread :) To change the current logout button to show the old dialog, and work around the GNOME session dialogs would take a couple things. One would be writing that dialog, though probably most of that would be available in the previous GNOME session patch. Then it would call GNOME Session through XSMP with the no GUI option similar to how the FUSA applet does it today. This would requiring the C code that implements the panel object that is the logout button. This is not about how the dialog looks, but the end user functionality in it. The current upstream Shut Down dialog offers everything we need *except* the Log Out option, and I would imagine this is possible to add. Then the logout button could open that dialog. Le jeudi 02 octobre 2008 à 09:04 +0100, Matt Zimmerman a écrit : This is not about how the dialog looks, but the end user functionality in it. The current upstream Shut Down dialog offers everything we need *except* the Log Out option, and I would imagine this is possible to add. Then the logout button could open that dialog. Is there a technical reason why that wouldn't work? Doing that would either require to change the upstream dialog to list all the option or to add a new dialog similar to the current upstream ones which list those. Changing the dialog would create a delta over upstream we will need to maintain, makes the two system menu entries irrevelant and makes some user unhappy who like the upstream way better (we had a gconf key in hardy to use the upstream dialog). Creating a similar dialog which lists all the option bring back to the configuration migration issue since that would be a new object and that requires to update the user configuration on upgrade, the change would be easier though since we would just have to change the object naming and not the layout for example. [Bug 231972] Re: Rhythmbox imports iPod-files altough iPod-plugin is off
the ubuntu team uses launchpad as a bug tracker but the team is small and doesn't write all the softwares distributed in ubuntu nor has the ressources to fix all the bugs in those software. the upstream bugs are sent to the upstream bug trackers by the bug triagers but there is lot of bugs and not so many triager, in such cases it's better if somebody who has access to the hardware to trigger the bug and cares about the issue could send it upstream directly, if you don't want to do it that's fine too the bug will wait there until somebody else does that though -- Rhythmbox imports iPod-files altough iPod-plugin is off https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/231972 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

No offense, but it strikes me as a poor practice to mark a bug invalid, make a comment that it is a duplicate, but not provide the specific bug report for which it is a duplicate. [Bug 276967] Re: no voice
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems. http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Thanks! ** Changed in: totem (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- no voice https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/276967 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to totem in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 231972] Re: Rhythmbox imports iPod-files altough iPod-plugin is off
I think I found the workaround to this. 1. Open Nautilus - Places - Home 2. Then, Edit - Preferences 3. Choose the Media tab 4. Choose the appropriate action next to the Music Player item in the Media Handling session. I chose Do Nothing, personally. No Rythmn box doesn't launch when I connect my iPod. It will still start importing music if I start it up, even though I have the iPod plugin disabled, so I am not sure if this is a complete fix, but the above workaround at least stops it from automatically launching and importing the files whenever I connect my iPod.
