[Bug 160738] Re: context menu positioned next to mouse pointer when using keyboard in stead of next to keyboard position (nautilus, gnome menus, ...)

2008-11-27 Thread gwi
In Intrepid, which also has Gnome 2.24.1, it does NOT work as requested.
As Marcos reported the menu still appears at the mouse pointer's
location, not at the related object's location. And this is the same for
the context menu key and for shift-F10.

[Bug 293207] Re: Conversion of existing mailboxes fails silently

2008-11-27 Thread David Roise
I tried the ppa3 versions and didn't have any luck either (trying to
restore in Intrepid from a backup made in Hardy). Do the folks who are
upgrading directly from Hardy to Intrepid also have this issue? I did a
fresh installation of Intrepid on a Macbook running VMWare Fusion and
then tried to import the backup from a separate virtual machine I have
been running with Hardy. Didn't work either from the standard packages
or from the ones provided by hggdh.

I'm surprised there aren't a lot of other complaints about this from
other users. Are there problems converting Evolution mailboxes during
an UPGRADE from Hardy to Intrepid? Maybe I'll just try doing it that
way.

Thanks for your help, hggdh.

It's the same thing with the other users (both admin and non-admin

After carefull investigation it turnes out I was not entirely correct:
the volume DOES change when you move the slider, but the change is not

the default value and the sound volume is instantly adjusted
accordingly.

[Bug 302741] [NEW] window list applet don't work on dual head config in 8.10

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

these
with the window-list applet. On the right monitor I have no panels.

In 8.04 all windows of a workspace regardless if it stayed on the left or right

[Bug 301982] Re: [Intrepid] regression: only 4 volume levels with hotkeys

2008-11-27 Thread Nikolaus Filus
Ok, now I have the full understanding of the affected components:

gnome-sound-properties was set to AlsaMixer as default mixer device (Intel
82801DB-ICH4) and
ALL mixer tracks were selected. The track IEC958 Playback AC97-SPSA allows
only this 4 levels
of control - so the mixer hotkeys (controlled by gnome-settings-daemon) just
used the common
determinator und could not use the more granular setting in
/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/volume_step. All other tracks can be controlled in
steps of 6%.
Disabling the IEC958 track or changing to the pulseaudio mixer solved the
problem
as expected.

But there is still the regression: why did the behaviour change between
Hardy and Intrepid?

BTW: the design is unintuitive - why is the volume_step not merged into
/apps/gnome-volume-control
and not exposed in the GUI? ... I will file a bug against gnome.

[Bug 302768] [NEW] Evolution 2.22.3.1 Problems opening attachments

2008-11-27 Thread byte71
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have Ubuntu 8.04.1 Hardy, Linux 2.6.24-21-generic #1 SMP x86_64

allows me to only have a preview of the text, and when right clicked on,
I only have the save as option, and if I double click on the actual
attachment, nothing happens, it does not open. This occurs with any type
of attachments.

[Bug 293207] Re: Conversion of existing mailboxes fails silently

2008-11-27 Thread hggdh
Why we do not see more people affected... beats me. I have been running
the new code since very early in the development cycle, and I do not
remember hitting this issue. Of course, I was hit by many others,
including losing all local mail (as a result of the changes that force
the migration). I do not know if this is a specific issue, or a generic
one (but I tend to a specific, for a series of reasons).

David, I would really appreciate if you could get a stacktrace from a
conversion that is hanging (see two comments above for how to).

commands:

lpr -P printer -o raw file

nc -w1 printer's IP 9100 file

sudo -s
cat file /dev/usblp0
exit

It does not matter whether you do this from Hardy or from Intrepid. It
also does not matter which driver you have set up for your print queue.

[Bug 302803] [NEW] Evolution does read winmail.dat

2008-11-27 Thread Winnewbie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Hi

I've converted to Ubuntu from Windows but that doesn't mean everyone
else has done so. Contrary to some forum discussion, it would be ill
advised to tell them all to turn off tnef or not write emails in Word.
Therefore there is a bug in Evolution, it cannot read winmail.dat file
attachments. I can see a plug in for it but it doesn't seem to be
working. I should think this is a fundamental functionality into
Evolution, in order to smooth out transition from Outlook for instance.
If not, can anyone advise me work arounds in order to read over 40
winmail.dat files received this week. Thanks

Mike

[Bug 302760] Re: 276603

2008-11-27 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 302749] Re: gnome-terminal crash

2008-11-27 Thread Chris Coulson
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

I've come across the same error message burning a DVD (from a .ISO)

[Bug 302800] [NEW] Nautilus owner permissions - does not set to sub dirs and files

2008-11-27 Thread BeigeGenius
Public bug reported:

Clicking on Apply Permissions to Enclosed Files under the Permissions tab in
a folders properties does not set the desired owner for all sub folders and
files.
However other permissions such as file access and folder access are set
correctly.
This is an annoyance as if a user is required to set the owner of a large
number of files and/or folders the only alternative is to use chmod from the
CLI!

[Bug 302744] [NEW] Firefox doesn't remember its unmaximized size with metaciy

2008-11-27 Thread nxsty
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

This bug exists in both fedora 10 and ubuntu 8.10 which has Gnome 2.24.
I believe this is a problem with metacity since it doesn't happen with
compiz.

An easy way to reproduce:
1. Make sure Metacity is the window-manager (ie. disable desktop effects)
2. Open firefox
3. Reduce the window size to cover only a part of the desktop.
3. Maximize firefox
4. Restart firefox
6. Firefox will start maximized but when you unmaximize it, it will still cover
the whole desktop and not go back to its previous unmaximized size.

I haven't noticed this with any other program yet but it's really
annoying.

I think it's this upstream bug:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=506472

It's also similar to these bugs:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/120962
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/137479

My system is ubuntu 8.10 x86 with all the latest updates as of today.

[Bug 223812] Re: [hardy] Regression: powernowd no longer works with some chipsets

2008-11-27 Thread gatopeich
I see. According to you...

* The fix is wrong (essentially because it makes the package do what
description says).

* Package description is wrong (apparently in order to support your
previous assertion).

* Package name is wrong too, it should be named anything-is-better-
than-powernowd.

* Original Debian package must be wrong also. They should be fixing it
to accomodate your more accurate idea of right and wrong.

What you are proposing is hijacking powernowd package for a purpose
which would be better acomplished in other ways.

(My excuses go to the list readers if I am overextending with this
strange issue.)

The following command in the terminal registers the schemas in the gconf
database:
sudo gconf-schemas --register /path/to/mytesting.schemas

The following command in the terminal only partially removes the keys from the
gconf database:
sudo gconf-schemas --unregister /path/to/mytesting.schemas

In fact, /schemas/apps/my_app and /apps/my_app remain listed in the
gconf database.

However, the command sudo gconf-schemas --register-all called after
the unregister command, makes /schemas/apps/my_app and /apps/my_app
disappear from the gconf database.

Should /schemas/apps/my_app and /apps/my_app not already disappear with
the gconf-schemas --unregister command?

Cheers

thank you for your bug report, did you restart your session or gconf
after the unregister? does using gconftool directly work correctly?

[Bug 42100] Re: Fix the wrong device registered in netstatus applet, and automatically set it to the first working network connection.

2008-11-27 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
any news about this? upstream is now maintaining the applet, it'd be a
good time to send this upstream, could somebody send it there? thanks.
