[Bug 335665] Re: Invest Gnome App Crashes

2009-08-13 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 412889] [NEW] window focus from link in terminal

2009-08-13 Thread Tuomas Aavikko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

whilst using arora as default browser, and have set it as such on
gnome-default-applications-properties

Arora already open
Clicking a link on gnome-terminal results in a new tab on that url and an extra
click on arora window border to gain access to browser. doesn't help if you
click inside arora, need to click metacity.

Arora closed,
clicking link starts arora and window is selected.

easy link on gnome-terminal
aptitude show devicekit-disks

If using firefox as a default browser, this issue doesn't exist.
Also x-www-browser is set to arora.

2.27.5-0ubuntu2~ppa5 does store the settings properly, but it no longer
actually suspends the laptop when the lid is closed. The current Karmic

have suspended when the lid is closed, but with the PPA version it does
not.

[Bug 412948] [NEW] Screen stuck at suboptimal resolution due to virtual size

2009-08-13 Thread Soren Hansen
Public bug reported:

This bug report is based on anectodal evidence gathered when helping
someone else get back to his proper resolution on his laptop, but I
belive it's accurate.

He'd been playing around with the TV-Out port, and now his screen was
stuck at a resolution of 1360x768, so it didn't fill the screen (which
has a physical resolution of 1440x900). It turned out that his xorg.conf
specified a virtual resolution of 2048 by 768, so apparantly XRANDR
couldn't offer resolutions with a height of more than 768 pixels.

I imagine this happened because he at some point had the laptop and the
TV-Out both at 1024x768, side by side, and tried to apply it, at which
point this setting would get written to xorg.conf.

The core problem here, I think, is that there's no obvious way to revert
the setting in xorg.conf, and xrandr doesn't even list the resolutions
that exceed the virtual resolution, so gnome-display-properties can't
even know that there's a higher resolution that is not being shown.

[Bug 412922] Re: Gnome power manager dies when AC unplugged

2009-08-13 Thread gattanegra
yes I saw these but the bug is not the same, it only resembles these.
also , about 459906 - what do you suggest ?
 It is fixed for Redhat.
 Hello!
I am using UBUNTU
And they did not mention HOW they fixed this exactly.;.

about #408456:
Yes, sometime ago, and I do not keep record, I upgraded. Using the Automatic
Update manager. I do not keep record what or when.

Really, is that the problem?

I never mentioned I upgraded and this happened afterwards because I
noticed this yesterday, but I did not update anything yesterday. Or at
lease anything related to g-p-m.

And, I never mentioned I changed my kernel.
Also i never mentioned sigsegv or anything related.
I do not see segfaults.
I rebooted several times and still nothing,

So this is NOT the same thing and NOT the same bug.

/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/i486-pc-linux-gnu - /usr/lib32/gtk-2.0/

thats needed for gtk to get the other modules as well (but remember:
atk-bridge is bogus and needs to be removed from ia32libs when
introducing that link).

Also we need something simliar for gio - but there i am not so sure if
it also requires some glib code.

[Bug 83034] Re: panel-autohide leaves a one-pixel line on the desktop

2009-08-13 Thread Nikola Kovacs
I've hacked the panel to allow auto_hide_size to be 0 when calculating struts,
i.e. how much space will be taken away from other applications. Although the 1
pixel line will still be there, maximized applications will be able to cover
the whole screen, so e.g. the close button will be in the upper right corner
(Fitts' law).
This solution is good enough for me, as the 1 pixel line doesn't really bother
me, but moving the close button away from the corner does.

[Bug 412922] Re: Gnome power manager dies when AC unplugged

2009-08-13 Thread Alex Lourie
Well, it doesn't have to be EXACTLY the same to be caused bu the same
bug.

The bug may be the same but system reaction to the bug may be different.
All I said is that characteristics are similar and may point to the
possible resolution for the issue.

[Bug 412975] [NEW] option to hide handles on non-expanded panel

2009-08-13 Thread Nikola Kovacs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Gnome-panel places two handles on both sides of the panel when the panel
is not expanded. I'd like to have the option to remove them, because I'd
like to place a non-expanded panel with a menu in a corner, but the
handle prevents me from quickly accessing the menu by moving my mouse
into the corner.

I've written a patch to introduce a boolean gconf value, expand_handles,
which if set to false hides these (by setting their size to 0 instead of
the hardcoded 10). I'm new to gnome hacking, and this is probably not
the right way to do it, but it works for me.

I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 and gnome-panel 1:2.27.4-0ubuntu6

[Bug 28835] Re: Unmount in volume right-click menu, is tech-speak and undiscoverable

2009-08-13 Thread mac_v
While we are trying to simplify by changing unmount to Eject ...
Win7 now uses Dismount !

So , in a few years are we going to come back to Unmount ?

We are trying to make it easier , for average users but the same
question of Eject will arise in a few years , and people will then say
, Eject is not right! Win7 uses Dismount ...!

I'd say we stick with Unmount , and dont change anything.
