[Bug 485084] Re: Ubuntu (Win) key cannot be programed to open Ubuntu Menu
This is for the same reason that Ctrl, Alt, or Shift cannot be assigned to an action by themselves. The Windows, or Super key is generally considered a modifier just like the aforementioned Ctrl, Alt, and etc. On the other hand, Windows does manage to use the Win key to open the start menu, while still retaining its use as a modifier in shortcuts such as Win+R, Win+D, etc. So perhaps this could be considered a wishlist item. ** Package changed: yelp (Ubuntu) = gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) -- Ubuntu (Win) key cannot be programed to open Ubuntu Menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/485084 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 361370] Re: Link isn't created
I might have just discovered something relevant. As you know, when you change a note's title the text in links pointing to it change. If I have the sentence Thomas Jefferson wrote the American [L]Declaration of Independence[/L], where the text between [L][/L] points to another note: 1 - If I change the note's title to the Declaration of Independence, the original sentence would change too: Thomas Jefferson wrote the American [L]the Declaration of Independence[/L], where an additional the has been added. 2 - If instead I remove the word American, the link disappears: Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence. 3 - However, if I remove the word American AND then I change the note's title to the Declaration of Independence, the original sentence reads: Thomas Jefferson wrote [L]the Declaration of Independence[/L] That is: instead of adding an additional the, Tomboy recognises the article that was already there and adds it to the link. I am pretty sure that this article recognition is probably intentional, but related to the described problem. -- Link isn't created https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/361370 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Thanks Sebastien. Okay, I made a report upstream. [Bug 378954] Re: Memory leakage when editing photos
I just replicated this bug on karmic with the following process: 1. Import a couple hundred photos into F-spot. 2. Go through each photo, using different operations from the edit menu on photos in the album. 3. Observe the memory usage for different operations The result was a gradual and consistent increase in memory usage as more photos were edited. I have not been able to make precise enough measurements to determine which editing operations affect the memory usage and are causing the leak, but i suspect there are problems with multiple operations. The Straighten operation seems to be a definite culprit, and a good candidate for further testing (along with the other edit operations). Only 10 or so images/edits should be required to generate a noticeable memory usage increase. I also haven't yet tested whether performing multiple edits on a single image has the same effect. I will report this upstream as soon as i have posted this new information here. Sorry for the slow response, i have finally come to the end of my final year of university, so have a little more time available for this sort of detail. I can confirm this. It seems like there is no access to the display brightness information due to a lack of suitable driver. [Bug 192009] Re: gnome panel has no way to specify on which screen it should appear
In my case, I use a laptop also with external VGA. I just installed Karmic over Intrepid. With Karmic the laptop comes up as primary but I want the Ext. VGA as primary when it is plugged in. I've had to add a script to switch both off and reset the External as Primary after each restart (of which I have lot because of lots of various issues with karmic). The reset script only works about one third of the time, (causing blank screen the other two thirds). With Intrepid the External was Primary when plugged in, (as I would expect most people using an external would require). [Bug 397192] Re: nautilus becomes non-responsive during video-playback
Yes, I'm seeing a similar issue on folders which have video files. Terminal will list the files but Nautilus will wait continuously trying to update the folder. If I switch NautilusEditPreferencesPreview to Never Preview, all files will display. I also thought it was mainly folders where files had been copied into them, but I've just had it replicate on one of the main offending folders when no files were moved or copied, I was just changing views between various tabs on the different drives. Changing the Minimum file preview size has no effect. Size of file where problem is occurring for me is at least 150MB, much smaller than reported above. In my case it's happening on two FAT32 external drives. I've tried replicating with smaller (30mb) PDFs and MP3 files of approx. 100mb but not finding it, though I've only made brief checks. -- nautilus becomes non-responsive during video-playback https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/397192 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 60079] Re: shopt xsession error upon login
While researching this problem further, I stumbled across this page: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DashAsBinSh Prior to the release of 6.10, Ubuntu developers made a conscious decision to change the default shell (the shell that is used to load scripts in /etc/profile.d) from bash to dash. dash is smaller and faster than bash, and its use increases the speed of startup operations. Having read about this decision, I do not see this problem as a bug and I withdraw my request to have this bug re-opened. I would however like advice on how to circumvent this problem. -- shopt xsession error upon login https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/60079 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I think this bug still exists in 9.10. I notice it when having a video playing in vlc or mplayer that I set to always on top. Then if I open a new application, sometimes the new window does not get focus. Focus stays on whichever window had focus before I opened the new one. However not all applications are affected. For example if I open the calculator (gcalctool) it gets focus correctly. However gnome-terminal windows do not get focus. Chrome gets focus, the gnome games don't. [Bug 130786] Re: [gutsy] NetworkManager Feature Request - manually trigger ssid scan
This goes back to Gutsy and is not yet fixed in Karmic. Supposedly it is fixed in the Gnome branch but is a wontfix here? It is still stupid that I have to disable and enable wireless just to see my access point when I can watch windows, two cell phones, Mac OSX and everything else find it in under 2 seconds. Try holding your breath for 20 seconds (use a stopwatch or a seconds display). But that is only sometimes and if I activate the applet - it still takes 2 minutes to automatically find an AP even when it is completely disconnected. You don't like or want to put in manual scans? [Bug 485370] [NEW] g-p-m doesn't show enough information
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager See the Bug #462267. Now with battstat applet gone, its features should be added to g-p-m so that user comfort is not harmed. g-p-m shows only icon in status area. The icon can express only limited amount of information and even then it is not used to its full potential. Now the icon can show only battery states (external power only, battery charging, battery charged, battery with high/low/very low/critically low remaining capacity discharging). Precise information is displayed in tooltip only. That means that user needs to get used to interrupt regularly work on some battery, move the cursor to the icon, wait for tooltip to appear, read the information and then to resume work. All of this must be often done with integrated pointing devices that are much slower and much more precise than regular mouse. I request these features to be added to g-p-m's UI to fix mentioned usability flaw: 1) add a keyboard shortcut that would display notification bubble with actual power state (and let know about it in tooltip, g-p-m settings or another place that is likely to be visited by plain user) 2) icon modification so it displays actual charge in analog way. The battery inside of Humanity g-p-m icon on my computer is 11 px high so it should drop 1 px for every 100/11 = 9 discharged percents of capacity. (And of course rise for every 9 % recharged.) 3) option to display remaining time or percents permanently 4) option to show large battery in style of battstat's two icons mode or in style of Lenovo's Battery MaxiMiser gauge (see attachments) ** Affects: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- g-p-m doesn't show enough information https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/485370 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
