[Bug 509866] Re: [lucid] empathy window resizes while typing in IRC

2010-01-20 Thread om26er
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 282315] Re: Gnome-sudoku timings all wrong

2010-01-20 Thread Michael Wood
What appear to be two separate bugs are being marked as dups of this bug
report:

The following reports are about the reported time being way too long:
Bug #348373
Bug #376212
Bug #376535
Bug #381529
Bug #382192
Bug #405025
Bug #446705
Bug #492069

with this one being the worst I've seen:
Bug #455027 (Congratulations! You completed the puzzle in 793 years, 8 months,
2 weeks, 6 days, 6 hours, 48 minutes and 51 seconds (9 years, 9 months, 1 week,
5 days, 21 hours, 44 minutes and 31 seconds active)
You got 2 hints)

These usually seem to have reasonable times for the active time, but
the latter also has that wrong.

These two reports don't specify if the time is less than one minute (like this
one) or longer than expected, so I can't say whether they are duplicates of
this bug or the too long bug:
Bug #437946
Bug #458926

This is the only actual duplicate as far as I can see:
Bug #465315

[Bug 509999] [NEW] when accidentally typing your password in face browser it will show up in plain text

2010-01-20 Thread Gigi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

1) Ubuntu 9.10
2) gdm: 2.28.1-0ubuntu2.1

3) When using face-browser mode I except the login screen to never
show any plain-text input.

4) As soon as you start typing (without having selected a user yet)
everything you type will be shown in a small text box in the lower right
corner. I guess this happens since the users are arranged in a list and
this should help you to select a user via the keyboard. However, in a
hurry one might simply start typing his/her password which then of
course is visible in plain-text.

[Bug 510000] [NEW] Eye of GNOME does not remember page size settings

2010-01-20 Thread .kkursor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eog

Eye of GNOME does not remember page size if changed via File - Page
settings menu. For example, if I need to print a photo on 10x15 sheet,
it is not possible with standard approach.

How to reproduce:
1. Open a jpeg file in eog.
2. Select File - Page settings. Change the values and click Apply.
3. Open previous menu again and make sure that settings are NOT applied.
4. If you are not sure if they are applied - print the file and you'll see
everything.
5. ???
6. PROFIT!

Expected behaviour:
After alteration of page size properties in Page settings menu the choice
should be remembered at least until the window is closed.

Temporary workaround:
Modify page settings on Image parameters tab in Print dialog.

System information:

[Bug 505029] Re: Keyboard repeat rate is often reset

2010-01-20 Thread ReneS
I can reproduce it on my Lenovo T500 with 9.10 with an Microsoft Natural
Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 USB (wired).

Remove external USB keyboard, suspend notebook, wake it up again, plug
in external keyboard, and test repeat rate. It is slow again. Internal
keyboard is still fast and like set.

Open Preferences Keyboard and touch Delay setting, even put it back to
the setting you found when opening the preferences. The external
keyboard repeat rate is fast now too.

This happens to me every day when going to the office. The repeat rate
is reset to slow.

What logs do you need?

[Bug 510006] [NEW] No support for nfs:// URI in Nautilus

2010-01-20 Thread Lex Ross
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I need to mount NFS shares to my my laptop at work, and had discovered
that there is no NFS entry in 'Places - Connect to server...' drop down
menu. I then selected Service Type: Other to no avail. Whether I use
'nfsserver:/share' or 'nfs://nfsserver/share' URI it fails to connect
and asks me to enter a server name, which is already there!

Next, I fed nfs://nfsserver/share path into Nautilus and it said that
nfs:// URI was not supported.

I do have nfs-common package installed and can mount NFS shares using
'sudo mount nfsserver:/share /mnt' command in the terminal. It would be
really nice to have support for mounting NFS shares in Nautilus/GNOME
though.

It seems to be a bug in the underlying printing structure, rather than

2010-01-20 Thread Vish
I can confirm the behavior is different in nautilus and gtk+ , but who
is to change the behavior?

gtk+ behavior is consistent with windows7.

While nautilus behavior is consistent with rhythmbox , gconf and other
gnome apps.

maybe we should make gtk+ consistent with gnome?

Re: [Bug 509656] Re: Icon of arrow in date column in Nautilus / Gnome windows

2010-01-20 Thread Valeryan_24
Hello,

Thanks for the answer.

IMHO, as a user, I agree with your proposal to make gtk+ consistent
with Gnome: Nautilus behavior is also the same as Thundebird one, for
example - most recent files on the top = arrow pointing up.

[Bug 488822] Re: Desktop icon instead of Home icon in the left panel

2010-01-20 Thread Vish
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut
should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that
affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be
addressed as part of this project.

- By default, the desktop is used and since this bug is due to non-default
settings and a corner case. not a papercut.
For further information about papercuts criteria, please read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.

Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as Invalid only in the
papercuts project.

OTOH , the idea of not having the desktop is a good one to be
implemented by default for UNR. Has anyone from the UNR team been
notified of this ?

[Bug 471251] Re: Evince has rendering artifacts when scrolling in a PDF doc

2010-01-20 Thread Robert
Same problem with me: Karmic / 64 bit, NVidia driver 185. It happens
when I work with my big screen only (1920x1200). I get the problem in
firefox, openoffice, gedit.

In open-office the cursor is not removed when I move on to the next
line. Scrolling (with the mouse-wheel) in gedit, openoffice, firefox is
a pain. Look also at screenshot gnome-file-chooser. As you can see
when I scroll with the mouse-wheel I can not even recognize anymore what
is happening.

If I turn of compiz - no problems.

Re: [Bug 509455] Re: Clock running slow

2010-01-20 Thread wordsmyth2
Hi Pedro:

Thanks for the prompt response.
The clock is question appears to set system time.
Here is a desktop screenshot, as requested, with the calendar up:

The actual time when this was taken was 12.35.
The clock loses several hours per day. This has only happened recently.
Local time right now (Melbourne, Australia) is 10.12 PM. The time on the
system clock shows 9.20PM and by morning it will be several hours behind.
Very puzzling...haven't experienced this problem before.

Cheers,

wordsmyth

[Bug 505371] Re: Usability: .RUN files, terminal, and privileges

2010-01-20 Thread Bruce van der Kooij
@James: Why not make the OS transition process a little bit easier for
more users?

Because I do not agree with the assumption that the changes you proposed
(adding options to the dialog) will improve usability, on the contrary,
I strongly believe that this will only lead to more problems, because
among other things it will almost certainly tempt some users to
automatically respond to the dialog with Run with administrative
privileges even when this is not needed or not wise to do so.

If the script authors require administrator privileges then they should
be the ones asking for it.

However, having read your original report once more, I would like to
indicate I have no problem with (and support) the resolution you
proposed to Problem 1 - Terminal auto-closes (keeping the terminal open
when the user selects Run in Terminal). If you would be so kind to
move this into an issue of its own, that would be great (file it
upstream right away, not in Launchpad please).

P.S.

This doesn't have anything to do with files having the .RUN extension
(extensions are irrelevant) the dialog is displayed for any file that
has the executable bit set (+x).

[Bug 510059] [NEW] win7 file share won't mount using nautilus

2010-01-20 Thread eddified
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

My Ubuntu Desktop (9.10, 64-bit) VM can't connect to my Windows 7
(64-bit, Ultimate) File Share using Nautilus. I enter
smb://comuterName in the address bar and then it comes up with a
password dialog (see screenshot) and then after entering the correct
login info, the dialog disappears for a second or two but then reappears
again. The dialog always comes back up and the share is never mounted.

* Connecting from an XP box on the network to the windows 7 share works
just fine.
* Connecting from the Ubuntu machine to the windows 7 share using the
appropriate 'smbmount' command works just fine.
* Connecting from the Ubuntu machine (using the nautilus GUI) to the XP box
(password protected) works just fine.
* Then I turned off password protection in Win7, rebooted the win7 machine,
and still all of the above tests turned out the same. And the Ubuntu machine
still doesn't connect to the windows share using the nautilus GUI, and still
displays the password dialog even though no password is required anymore.
* I tried using smbclient to view the shares, here is the output (not sure
if I should be trying something else using the smbclient program):
  o ed...@eddie-ubuntu:~$ smbclient -L eddie-win7
Enter eddie's password:
session setup failed: SUCCESS - 0

Re: [Bug 484501] Re: users-admin lies about changing home directory

2010-01-20 Thread Robert
I think I've gotten to the bottom of it. I was surprised to find that
if i create a new user i can successfully change the home directory of
that user but that I was unable to change my own home directory or
that of another user who had a running process. This seems to be
because usermod will refuse to do so, complaining that the user is
logged in. That seems quite sensible so it seems that all that is
missing is for the GUI to report the error to the user in a sensible
fashion.

[Bug 471251] Re: Evince has rendering artifacts when scrolling in a PDF doc

2010-01-20 Thread skalka
You can alleviate damages by activating Force synchronization between X
and GLX in Compiz settings. I can use Firefox and File Manager, problem
persist in Evince (not Adorbe Reader), Gedit and Openoffice (even if
here scrolling works fine). This kind of issues are present in Mutter
too, so I think that it's definitely nvidia fault.

[Bug 510073] [NEW] take screenshot of current window doesn't work properly

2010-01-20 Thread eddified
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

ubuntu 64-bit desktop, 9.10 --

When using the Take Screenshot utility from the menus (Applications -
Accessories - Take Screenshot), and selecting Grab the Current Window
radio button, the screenshot isn't generated properly.

- When choosing to include the window border in the screenshot, the
screenshot utility seems to die -- the screenshot isn't taken and the
save as dialog does not appear. (That is to say, after clicking the
Take Screenshot button, nothing happens)

- When choosing NOT to include the window border, the 'save as' dialog
does appear and appears to work properly with one major exception -- the
screenshot saved (and the screenshot thumbnail shown in the 'save as'
dialog) is NOT of the current window. Instead, the screenshot that is
taken appears to be of the upper left corner of the desktop. See
attached screenshot for example of the result.

Notes:

Display drivers: VirtualBox drivers. (Ubuntu is running as guest in
VirtualBox)

Tested with current window being both firefox and nautilus, and gedit.
Results are always the same -- it is impossible to take a window-only
screenshot.

[Bug 509866] Re: [lucid] empathy window resizes while typing in IRC

2010-01-20 Thread Teej
To clarify:

I expected the input box to wrap-around and either grow vertically, or have a
scrollbar, yes.
The window should not resize because it is being typed into.
i.e. the input box grows horizontally to fit the typed text in, but in doing
this forces the whole window itself to grow, which is wrong.

If this is not reproducible, may be a metacity or X issue, so will
apport-collect this in.

Will report this upstream as well.
