[Bug 509866] Re: [lucid] empathy window resizes while typing in IRC
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance. -- [lucid] empathy window resizes while typing in IRC https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/509866 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 282315] Re: Gnome-sudoku timings all wrong
What appear to be two separate bugs are being marked as dups of this bug report: The following reports are about the reported time being way too long: Bug #348373 Bug #376212 Bug #376535 Bug #381529 Bug #382192 Bug #405025 Bug #446705 Bug #492069 with this one being the worst I've seen: Bug #455027 (Congratulations! These two reports don't specify if the time is less than one minute (like this one) or longer than expected, so I can't say whether they are duplicates of this bug or the too long bug: Bug #437946 Bug #458926 This is the only actual duplicate as far as I can see: Bug #465315 -- Gnome-sudoku timings all wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/282315 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 509999] [NEW] when accidentally typing your password in face browser it will show up in plain text
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm 1) Ubuntu 9.10 2) gdm: 2.28.1-0ubuntu2.1 3) When using face-browser mode I except the login screen to never show any plain-text input. 4) As soon as you start typing (without having selected a user yet) everything you type will be shown in a small text box in the lower right corner. I guess this happens since the users are arranged in a list and this should help you to select a user via the keyboard. [Bug 488822] Re: Desktop icon instead of Home icon in the left panel
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be addressed as part of this project. - By default, the desktop is used and since this bug is due to non-default settings and a corner case. not a papercut. For further information about papercuts criteria, please read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut. Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as Invalid only in the papercuts project. OTOH , the idea of not having the desktop is a good one to be implemented by default for UNR. Same problem with me: Karmic / 64 bit, NVidia driver 185. It happens when I work with my big screen only (1920x1200). I get the problem in firefox, openoffice, gedit. In open-office the cursor is not removed when I move on to the next line. Scrolling (with the mouse-wheel) in gedit, openoffice, firefox is a pain. Look also at screenshot gnome-file-chooser. [Bug 505371] Re: Usability: .RUN files, terminal, and privileges
@James: Why not make the OS transition process a little bit easier for more users? Because I do not agree with the assumption that the changes you proposed (adding options to the dialog) will improve usability, on the contrary, I strongly believe that this will only lead to more problems, because among other things it will almost certainly tempt some users to automatically respond to the dialog with Run with administrative privileges even when this is not needed or not wise to do so. If the script authors require administrator privileges then they should be the ones asking for it. However, having read your original report once more, I would like to indicate I have no problem with (and support) the resolution you proposed to Problem 1 - Terminal auto-closes (keeping the terminal open when the user selects Run in Terminal). If you would be so kind to move this into an issue of its own, that would be great (file it upstream right away, not in Launchpad please). P.S. This doesn't have anything to do with files having the .RUN extension (extensions are irrelevant) the dialog is displayed for any file that has the executable bit set (+x). -- Usability: .RUN files, terminal, and privileges https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/505371 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 484501] Re: users-admin lies about changing home directory
I think I've gotten to the bottom of it. I was surprised to find that if i create a new user i can successfully change the home directory of that user but that I was unable to change my own home directory or that of another user who had a running process. This seems to be because usermod will refuse to do so, complaining that the user is logged in. That seems quite sensible so it seems that all that is missing is for the GUI to report the error to the user in a sensible fashion. [Bug 471251] Re: Evince has rendering artifacts when scrolling in a PDF doc
You can alleviate damages by activating Force synchronization between X and GLX in Compiz settings. I can use Firefox and File Manager, problem persist in Evince (not Adorbe Reader), Gedit and Openoffice (even if here scrolling works fine). This kind of issues are present in Mutter too, so I think that it's definitely nvidia fault. -- Evince has rendering artifacts when scrolling in a PDF doc https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/471251 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 510073] [NEW] take screenshot of current window doesn't work properly
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus ubuntu 64-bit desktop, 9.10 -- When using the Take Screenshot utility from the menus (Applications - Accessories - Take Screenshot), and selecting Grab the Current Window radio button, the screenshot isn't generated properly. - When choosing to include the window border in the screenshot, the screenshot utility seems to die -- the screenshot isn't taken and the save as dialog does not appear. (That is to say, after clicking the Take Screenshot button, nothing happens) - When choosing NOT to include the window border, the 'save as' dialog does appear and appears to work properly with one major exception -- the screenshot saved (and the screenshot thumbnail shown in the 'save as' dialog) is NOT of the current window. Instead, the screenshot that is taken appears to be of the upper left corner of the desktop. See attached screenshot for example of the result. Notes: Display drivers: VirtualBox drivers. [Bug 509866] Re: [lucid] empathy window resizes while typing in IRC
To clarify: I expected the input box to wrap-around and either grow vertically, or have a scrollbar, yes. The window should not resize because it is being typed into. i.e. the input box grows horizontally to fit the typed text in, but in doing this forces the whole window itself to grow, which is wrong. If this is not reproducible, may be a metacity or X issue, so will apport-collect this in. Will report this upstream as well. ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #607543 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=607543 ** Also affects: empathy via https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=607543 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: As stated in the title. To reproduce: * Join an IRC channel (may be the same for MSN/Yahoo, etc) * Type a long message (longer than the window) The input box does not open vertically as you would expect, but resizes the entire chat window.
