[Bug 525161] Re: sometimes it's never print out any page and hangs on

2010-02-26 Thread madbiologist
I can confirm this bug on Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala. I attempted to
use evince 2.28.1-0ubuntu1.2 to print the attached djvu file to my Canon
i965 (installed as BJC 8200+foomatic drivers), attached locally via USB.
My libcairo2 is version 1.8.8-2ubuntu1.1.

After pressing print, evince's printing progress bar advances to 100%
and then pauses. At this point I thought it had hung, however the
progress bar disappeared after about 20 or 30 seconds. Opening my
printer status showed the document with a size of 60313k and a status of
Processing. Also my CPU usage was at 100% (I have a single-core CPU).
I went shopping and when I returned over 3 hours later my printer had
still not printed anything and the document status was still
Processing. CPU usage was still at 100%. At this point I canceled
the job, however CPU usage stayed at 100% until I closed the printer
status window.

[Bug 455623] Re: Multiple parallel file copies to USB are slower than sequential processing

2010-02-26 Thread Yoav
Obviously that's a device limitation (assuming one of the devices is a
hard disk), but sequential copying or timesharing with very large time
slots (each file get a few seconds at a time for copying its contents)
would avoid the problem never the less.

For me this happened after a copy of files from one partition to another

[Bug 511691] Re: Nautilus disc burner does not use specified disc name

2010-02-26 Thread Clement Lefebvre
Hi Husse,

It's an upstream bug to us. It's hard to know where the fault
originates:

- It could be Brasero...
- It could be Gnome itself...
- It could be a patch in Ubuntu...
- Or it could even be something in Debian.

Sense, can you reproduce the problem in Ubuntu? I doubt this is specific
to Mint.

[Bug 528314] [NEW] Nautilus hangs after smb share is unavailable

2010-02-26 Thread Matthias Meier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

After opening and closing a smb share with nautilus, the gvfsd-smb mount isn't
unmounted automatically.
As soon as the network share is unavailable thereafter, the whole gnome desktop
freezes for about 30' from time to time.
Until the user logs out or the gfs-mount is unmounted manually (which in case
can't be done until the freeze period is over).

It would be nice if the gvfs-unmount would happen automatically after
some timeout witout traffic and/or when all network interfaces
(LAN/WLAN) are down.

[Bug 528312] [NEW] nautilus default focus on toolbar buttons not on file chooser

2010-02-26 Thread dje
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When opening a new window in nautilus the default focus is on the
toolbar buttons rather than on the file chooser like in older versions.
Surely the focus is much more useful on the file chooser so the keyboard
can be used to perform actions on files (such as using the arrow keys to
select a file/directory) immediately after opening the window?

[Bug 444993] Re: Toggling an application in gnome-session-properties and then closing too quickly can cause the change to not be recorded

2010-02-26 Thread Chris Coulson
I'm not sure it's worth fixing in Karmic really. Everyone is busy
working on Lucid at the moment, this bug is not high priority and there
is also an easy workaround for it too. It's not the sort of bug that
most users are going to notice, and only a very small number of people
reported the issue too.

[Bug 435928] Re: Password works in virtual terminal but not in Gnome screensaver

2010-02-26 Thread l0b0
I checked for this solution around the web, and it looks like the
ownership and permissions are already correct:

$ ls -la /sbin/unix_chkpwd
-rwxr-sr-x 1 root shadow 30400 2009-09-04 10:26 /sbin/unix_chkpwd

$ stat -c %a /sbin/unix_chkpwd
2755

I should note that I'm using only a single login on this machine, and
still this bug is not completely reproducible.

[Bug 528338] [NEW] Find in Message does not update number of matches in find bar if string is not found

2010-02-26 Thread Alex Valavanis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

== To reproduce ==
(1) Open an email
(2) Select the Find in Message tool (CTRL+SHIFT+F) to open the find bar
(3) Search for a string such as the, which occurs in the message.
(4) Search for a string such as zxczxc which does NOT occur in the message

== What should happen ==
* After step 3, Matches: n appears at the right of the find bar, where n
is the number of times the string occurs in the message.
* After step 4, Matches: 0 appears.

== What happened instead ==
* Correct results after step 3.
* After step 4, the number of matches is not updated. This gives the false
impression that the message contains the string zxczxc n times, when in
fact it does not appear at all.

2010-02-26 Thread Nigel Babu
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. If you could test the
current Ubuntu development version, this would help us a lot. If you can
test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could
report back to us so that it can be reported upstream.

[Bug 507902] Re: Rhytmbox plays another radio station

2010-02-26 Thread Nigel Babu
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates.

Is this issue only with this particular radio station or all the radio
stations in the list?

If you could test the current Ubuntu development version, this would
help us a lot. If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would
appreciate if you could upload updated logs relevant for this particular
issue.

Re: [Bug 511691] Re: Nautilus disc burner does not use specified disc name

Hi Clem
Not Brasero as it is the Nautilus thingy that behaves bad
Just got the idea to install Karmic in Virtualbox so I can check

I doubt this is specific
 to Mint.

Status in The Linux Mint Distribution: Confirmed
Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu: Invalid

 Bug description:
 OS: Linux Mint 8 Helena
 Gnome: 2.28.0
 Gnome Nautilus: 2.28.1
 Brasero: 2.28.2

I'm not sure exactly which package this involves, but the problem I am
facing is that when I use the CD/DVD creator method of burning to disc
with the drag and drop feature in a Nautlius window and then specify a disc
name, once the burn process has completed, the disc is named 'CDROM' as
opposed the name that I had typed in.

 To reproduce:
1)insert a blank CD/DVD into the disc drive
2)select the CD/DVD creator option to burn to a blank disc
3)drag a file to the drag and drop area
4)click on the write to disc button
5)enter a new name into the 'disc name' section and proceed with the burn.

[Bug 528403] [NEW] [f-req] file-operations fire-n-forget

2010-02-26 Thread rene7705
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Hi,

got an idea for nautilus (and any other file explorer basically)

first, i'll say that i really like the single window for multiple file
operations.

but, it still displays popups during copying for
errors/warnings/user-descisions-needed.
copy is stalled then.

instead, could you please:
- keep copying files that dont require userinteraction.
- list all errs / warnings / etc in a (user-visible) interactive log. have a
setting in config for auto-show-or-not of log.
- during, or at the end of copying, check the log, and resolve the
errs/warnings/etc. pref not by a gauntlet of dialogs, but by showing the log,
some colors, and a right-side panel to select the action (which starts
immediately, counter/progressbar in colored log entry plz)

I believe this would be a great improvement for nautilus; end-users, if
you agree, comment +1 plz.

On a side-note; it would also be cool if nautilus took into acount the various
filesystems being copied from and to.
One set of write-operations per file-system please, that would result in faster
copying i think.

Re: [Bug 431817] Re: apple trailers won't play when opened from apple.Com

2010-02-26 Thread Gordo
I have a freshly installed copy of Karmic along with all of the same
versions of software installed as listed below. When trying to play a
trailer (The Crazies) on the Apple Trailers site I get their
JavaScript window where the movie should be played but there is a
message there instead telling me to install quicktime.

Thanks,
Gord

[Bug 431817] Re: apple trailers won't play when opened from apple.Com

2010-02-26 Thread Ekimia
It actually depends on the trailer you try.

in karmic , the user-agent trick made most of them work. But now Apple
added onother check on reported QT version through javascript. however
the Totem QT plugin is well made so it reports a recent version. So it
should work ..

Here is one example that don't work and thus might check for plugin
version http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/fox/theateam/

i really don't see why apple do all this crap detection ... ( a bit like
france2.fr ..) Maybe they want to force windows user to install Ithunes
even if they had for exemple a working plugin such as VLC.

I don't see why we should spend too much time debugging/mimicing their
Quicktime/website crap

Rotten apple ...

Re: [Bug 486467] Re: Error transferring track

2010-02-26 Thread mdo

I don't know how to test the current Ubuntu development version. If I
find out how to install it, and do that, how would I roll back if
something went wrong in an unrelated area (e.g. email, my other software)
? I completely depend on Ubuntu at home for everything. The whole family
do.

I have Update Manager set to install all critical updates automatically,
and I update everything recommended every couple of weeks. Is this not
enough ? Once the update has come through, and you let me know, I'm
happy to retest and update the bug accordingly. Is that ok?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. If you could test the
current Ubuntu development version, this would help us a lot. If you can
test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could
upload updated logs relevant for this particular issue.

Open any website which contains something to let you upload, such as

Or just select File-Open File... from Firefox main menu to see the file
 selection dialog comes up.

I am expecting selecting a file will be quite smooth operation.

 4) What happened instead

It takes ~6s to get file list shown completely in Open File dialog. If you
scroll, refresh will take another ~5s. CPU usage will be 100% .

I can use shell to do ls in the directory that Firefox opens without any
 problem.

Recently I moved my home from a NFS mount to a local mount.
 Previous:
my home is /home1/foo while /home1 is a NFS mount
 Now,
my home is still /home1/foo but it's copied from previous NFS mount. And the
NFS mount is now mounted at /home2.

 Will this be the cause?

[Bug 526379] Re: GDM login fails with regular gnome-session (lucid, i386)

2010-02-26 Thread Hugh Saunders
Maybe previous comment was presumptuous.

I have the similar symptoms: have upgraded to lucid, can login to gnome
failsafe, but not gnome normal session.

When watching the X output and the gnome-session output, I see X crash
with output similar to that mentioned in bug #515846:

X: ../common/drirenderbuffer.c:69: driNewRenderbuffer: Assertion `format ==
0x1908 || format == 0x8050 || format == 0x8058 || format == 0x81A5 || format ==
0x81A6 || format == 0x81A7 || format == 0x8D48' failed.
Aborted (core dumped)

After that because X has crashed, gdm restarts it and I end up back at
the login screen.

It maybe that we are experiencing the same symptoms but for completely
different reasons?

[Bug 526641] Re: dbus does not report any PowerManagment messages

2010-02-26 Thread Henning Moll
Ok, here are the results. I did two test runs:

1. I started your suggested command first and then disconnect AC. The
only notifications are those of AC connect/disconnect. After charge
state reached 0.0 i immediately reconnect AC. I didn't risk running out
of power.

2. I disconnect AC before starting the laptop. After login i run your
command. This time hibernation worked. But it works not everytime. In
my opinion the distribution of the notifications over time is strange:
Four notifications between 11.9 and 9.8 percent charge, then no
notification down to 2.3 percent. At this point the first critical
warning appeard (critical, only 5 minutes left). The last notification
at 0.9 percent says critical, system hibernates now. And it worked
this time.
