[Bug 475426] Re: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed
After compliation installation of Qt 4.6.1 on my system (Ubuntu Karmic), I am noting same bug with various Qt Developer GUI - Tools like assistant, linguist, designer. Eg : $ assistant ** (unknown:24424): CRITICAL **: atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed According to following discussion thread on nokia forum for Qt. http://www.forum.nokia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=189084 The problem for Qt Toolkit seems to be GTK-style. If I run same application with different style the error does not appear. Eg : $ assistant -style plastique --- More astonishing is the fact that if I switch to Karmic repository version of Qt ( i.e 4.5.2), The critical error message disappears. -- atk_object_set_name: assertion `name != NULL' failed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/475426 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 540691] Re: sound problem
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Thanks! When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. I have re-assigned this back to the defaukt Ubuntu task as it is not a yelp issue. ** Package changed: yelp (Ubuntu) = ubuntu ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New = Incomplete -- sound problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/540691 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to yelp in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

XDD I'm really impressed how this decision has made so many noise, they're are just buttons!! and can be changed!! so, where's the problem? that everybody is used to the buttons to the right?, well, everybody is used to other OS too 1. I agree in putting buttons to left, they're better when you're used to them (So you need to use them for a while) 2. Re: [Bug 532633] Re: [light-theme] please revert the order of the window controls back to menu:minimize, maximize, close
@aysiu The problem with your Forums post is that it says this is what really happened and is, in fact, quite incorrect. Some members of the design team asked that the window controls be grouped on the left, and presented the visualisation. So it wasn't that I prefer it that way. I didn't like it initially, anticipating that it would generate a great deal of resistance. However, it does line things up nicely for work I would like us to do in future. And the major argument against it appears solely to be we're used to it here, which is important, but not overriding. Isolating snippets and using them out of context is just rude. You can throw your toys out of the cot, but other than expressing a personal preference, you haven't informed the discussion at all. Most importantly, you do NOT have a say in *everything*. Anybody is welcome to participate, and it's worth building a reputation for yourself as being competent at something. If the community process *works*, that competence will be rewarded with the ability to make tough decisions. At the moment, your approach is not highlighting any particular competence on your part, other than for aggressive and unhelpful argument backed by a willingness to twist people's words - not something we have a department for in Ubuntu. [Bug 540775] Re: when log off no panel appear if you disable password on log on
Ok, To explain a little: Ubuntu users, who have disabled password logins are unable to switch desktop environments due to the fact that the selection menu appears only after selecting the user. In the case of no set password, the user selection leads to automatic login. This is a serious oversight! Ugly fix: add another user with password enabled. [Bug 540813] [NEW] wrong /usr/share/applications/desktop.$locale.cache files
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-menus After installing Lucid 10.04-alpha on 2010-03-17 (from a preseeded PXE install), the /usr/share/applications/desktop.nl_NL.utf8.cache file contains many, many English descriptions of the applications - so the Gnome menus are filled with English descriptions. The system language is nl_NL.utf8 (and, in fact, a cache file that has nl_NL.utf8 should *never* get the English descriptions in the menus when there are nl_NL.utf8 descriptions available). Running the (undocumented) update-gnome-menus-cache in this directory fixes things, but there's a couple of bad practices here: - the documentation for various packages doesn't tell about update-gnome-menus-cache. - update-gnome-menus-cache doesn't even have a man page - For example, trying to add a new screensaver-type by hand does not work when you put a .desktop file in /usr/share/applications/screensavers/. In fact, *deleting* a .desktop file there does not remove the screensaver from the screensaver settings menu! - a cache file should not reside in /usr/share/applications/ - *if* you cache files, you should make sure the cached file will be rebuilt. In this case, a wrong desktop.$i18n.cache file will get all menus wrong, and there seems nothing you can do about it. ** Affects: gnome-menus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- wrong /usr/share/applications/desktop.$locale.cache files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/540813 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-menus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 540168] Re: gnome-volume-control USB Mic sound preferences
Hello, Thank you for responding so quick. 2010/3/17 Sebastien Bacher seb...@ubuntu.com Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions: * Is this reproducible? Yes, * If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug? You plug a USB headset or Analogue you open gnome-volume-control , you can only adjust capture volume from microphone. * Could you make clear what else you would want to see happen? In 8.04, 8.10 and 9.04 in gnome-volume-control in preferences you could select volume input microphone for recording or listening. Since 9.10 it's impossible by GUI, I thought it will be fixed in 10.04 because is regression, we are using that for Open Source Digital language laboratory based on italc and pulseaudio ( LLSOLL project). The only way to tune the microphone listening volume is to open Alsamixer in terminal mode, it is not user-friendly for students and teachers. There are 2 items in alsamixer for microphone : 1. Mic : is the loopback of your voice 2. Capture : is the volume for recording Is not user-friendly for students and teachers. [Bug 460328] Re: Wrong keyboard settings when console-settings has multiple layouts
I just tested current lucid with multiple layouts: [us,de,de\tnodeadkeys] gdm is meant to pick precisely one keyboard layout (the one you want to use by default), so we should not and will not support lists in gdm. (This is what I originally meant with multiple default layouts do not make sense). So I close the gdm task. What is actually wrong: If you pick a new layout in gdm (I chose UK), I get the correct layout added to gconf [us,de,de\tnodeadkeys,gb] but it does not become the default layout. Hi Mark. I didn't take anything out of context, those were your words, I just put quotes around them to emphasize how ridiculous they were. If that's a problem maybe you shouldn't have said them. As for personally attacking me, well I guess when you cannot win an argument on merit, go for the jugular, right? But I must say that I hate half baked solutions... like the new GDM (you must admit it, the default theme is horrid). I've seen lately (since Hardy) that Canonical is pushing half made software in it's sane default, in the hope that more eyeballs would lead to acceptance and better software. Alpha and Beta testers doesn't make better software, programers do. The success of most of the greatest software protects is because of programing skills and good taste. That's the example of the Linux kernel witch is based on Linus taste.
