[Bug 625239] Re: X starts on wrong tty because gdm starts before nvidia driver is ready
has anyone reproduced this nvidia+gdm crash on maverick? Marking incomplete for maverick pending confirmation. ** Description changed: + This bug has been repurposed based on the comments beginning at #15. + The original submitter's bug was a duplicate of bug #626723. - After the system boots and the plymouth screen disappears and X starts up on tty1 or tty2, if I press the enter key in a few minutes X shuts down and starts again. In the session of X that comes up after this, the problem doesn't occur. - - The problem happens when gdm starts X and X crashes silently. gdm - restarts X but X starts on tty1(2) as getty hasn't yet started and it - isn't the first X start. When getty does start on tty1 it eventually - interferes with X by setting ISIG on the tty. - - In the cases discussed here, the computer systems are very fast and gdm - is starting X before the nvidia kernel module is ready to run. - - NOTE WELL--the original reporter had the problem that his system was starting on tty7 and others were discussing tty1 starts here as well. At comment 30 - the problem was split with regard to tty1/tty7 starts and tty7 discussion moved to #626723. See original description below for his original report. + When booting certain systems with fast disks, gdm will start up and + attempt to launch X before the nvidia kernel driver has fully + initialized. This results in gdm restarting X again, without the 'vt7' + argument, which may cause X's first-available-VT autoselection to pick a + VT between 1 and 6 because the getty jobs have not all yet started. + Ultimately this leads to X crashing when pressing certain keys (such as + Enter or '2') because the tty has been set into a mode by getty that X + is not prepared to handle. ** Package changed: plymouth (Ubuntu Maverick) = gdm (Ubuntu Maverick) ** Package changed: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu Maverick) = nvidia- graphics-drivers (Ubuntu Maverick) ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu Maverick) Status: Invalid = Confirmed ** Also affects: gdm (Ubuntu Lucid) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu Lucid) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: This bug has been repurposed based on the comments beginning at #15. [Bug 630976] Re: Error when attempting to transfer music to iPhone 4
I heard that it was not possible to transfer music to iPhone 4 with Lucid Lynx. For me, i have not seen this crash. In rhythmbox, you can drag drop music to your iphone, synchronization starts but your iPhone remains empty. It is not a rhythmbox problem, it is a known limitation of libimobiledevice. On www.libimobiledevice.org, you can see that news 23.08.2010: First attempt at iOS 4 music synchronization with an iPhone 4 has succeeded. The new hash algorythm is reversed. Some time will pass though to clean it up and make iPhone 4 and iPad owners happy again. In Ubuntu 10.10, libimobiledevice version is 1.0.1, so we can never have it work, but if we could have 1.0.2, music sync will work with all iOS versions. iPhone 4 case seems to be different. Who should be able to test libimobiledevice-1.0.2 with an iPhone 4 to see if it make sense to upgrade maverick to 1.0.2 ? -- Error when attempting to transfer music to iPhone 4 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/630976 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 293535] Re: CPU always 100% CPU
I had similar symptoms under lucid while trying to change my window manager to sawfish--one CPU pegged at 100%, with top showing gconfd-2 using up about 20% and Xorg about 15%. It turns out that the problem was caused by metacity trying to start, realizing that another window manager was running, outputting and error, then being RESTARTED very quickly. top didn't list metacity as the culprit because each metacity process was dying so quickly that it didn't show up in the statistics. It was gnome-session that was restarting metacity endlessly, so I suggest that this is a bug in gnome-session (it should somehow give up after a while, and probably show an error dialog). I described the solution for my problem (which doesn't necessarily apply to this bug) in bug #453115. -- CPU always 100% CPU https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/293535 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gconf in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 637892] [NEW] IRC contact list missing since last update
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: empathy Since I updated empathy yesterday on Maverick (I don't know if I missed any updates in-between, the one before was a few days old) the IRC contact list has disappeared. In the Conversation menu it is enabled. In fact, when I updated yesterday, it disappeared when I reconnected to a channel, whereas it stayed visible for a channel to which I didn't loose connection. [Bug 548546] Re: nautilus not removing device after unmount
I'm not quite sure about the steps prior to unmounting the device in respect to information you request. 'gvfs-mount -li' and 'udisks --dump' don't report a loop device after 1. mkdir /tmp/tmpmount 2. sudo mount -o loop ubuntu-10.04-desktop-i386.iso /tmp/tmpmount/ 3. sudo umount /tmp/tmpmount They do falsely report a loop device after a run of usb-creator though, while 'losetup -a' clearly indicated that there is none. Re: [Bug 240599] Re: Doesn't install GConf keys
Yes, this happens in Lucid. However, I don't agree that this is a Yelp bug. The .deb should make GConf entries where appropriate. Users shouldn't have to read help in order to take advantage of the GConf entries, especially since in every other program I know of, GConf stuff isn't document in the Yelp help. It's documented through the GConf schema. [Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets
I see this sort of effect regularly on boot. The reliable work around for me is to log out and log in again. All the startup applications are in cache and the race conditions are not triggered. It seems it happens when the panel is a little slower than normal loading, and startup applications and applets are making use of its resources before it is fully initialized - the slower your disks and the more startup applications you have the more likely you are to see the problem. -- visual corruption affecting several panel applets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/439448 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 637994] Re: Nautilus segmentation fault in libcairo.so.2
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- Nautilus segmentation fault in libcairo.so.2 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/637994 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
