[Bug 638686] Re: maverick vnc server gtk application crash due to no keymap
I have the same problem in the Meerkat beta livecd, with both the tight vncserver and the vnc4 server. I've confirmed that downloading the debian package has the effect Andy described, i.e. it doesn't crash on every keystroke, but having the 'd' key not work makes many commands unusable, e.g. 'date'. I run ubuntu on a laptop with a small screen and primarily use it via a much larger vnc server screen from my desktop (with a large monitor), so this would effectively prevent my updating to a newer version... -- maverick vnc server gtk application crash due to no keymap https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/638686 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+2.0 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 648042] [NEW] File autolaunch association lost when alacarte move/delete items
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: alacarte When sorting out software items with alacarte, the auto-launch association of a file is lost. That is what to do to see the bug: Install KmPlot package from softwarestore and you'll see it with an icon all correct in Education submenu of Application on panel. Make a plot and save a .fkt file somewhere. In explorer the auto-launch association is not done and if you try to set it you see it is not being proposed even if in alacarte you can see it. With the explorer tool create a new auto-launch association entry with command kmplot for the .fkt file you created: you will see that a new entry is proposed in explorer menu but without correct icon and in alacarte there is now a new entry also with no icon in Other sub section. Now close explorer and in alacarte drag and drop the kmplot auto-launch association entry from Other to Education. Because the drag and drop action has copied the entry, delete the one in Other section. Now open explorer and try to double-click on the .fkt file you previously have associated to kmplot : it is lost. I would expect that: Explorer auto-launch association menu would display software available the same as alacarte. Also that alacarte would not break auto-launch association set with Explorer when sorting them. $ apt-cache policy alacarte alacarte: Installé : 0.13.1-0ubuntu1 Candidat : 0.13.1-0ubuntu1 Table de version : *** 0.13.1-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS Release:10.04 ** Affects: alacarte (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- File autolaunch association lost when alacarte move/delete items https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/648042 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to alacarte in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult [please no more comments; patches welcome]
How would you customize a hotspot? I'm seeing - radiance - a kind of V-shaped 'hotspot' for resizing from the corners that is 1 pixel high, possibly 7 pixels wide, at for instance the right-hand side of the top of the window, then 1 pixel wide, possibly 7 pixels high, at the top of the right-hand edge of the window, although my understanding of the word 'hotspot' would seem to suggest it should be a rectangular area? Aside from the very thin V-shaped 'corner resize' zone, no sign of hotspots whatsoever? As I'm writing, a comment that the invisible additional grab area sounds workable, should perhaps be a gconf setting, default off, as invisible overlaps could be a source of unpredictable behavior :-) -- Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult [please no more comments; patches welcome] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160311 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Hi, I tried to improve the loop in #62. [Bug 195483] Re: Sound Juicer - MP3 quality doesn't change
It's taken over a year for me to obtain a cataract operation, but I can now see well enough to add another response to this Sound-Juicer problem saga. When I first researched modifying Sound Juicer (aka Audio CD Extractor) back in LinuxMint-4 and Ubuntu 7.10 days, I downloaded and printed out the 'buntu-restricted-extras, gst-inspect information for the included LAME encoder variant (aka lamemp3enc). However, I was then greatly aided in data interpretation by a Windows audio expert (aka Slipstreem), who knew all about LAME developer activities and guided my work and use of no-longer-available graphical EncSpot to assess the outcome of applied modifications. Only being interested in 'CD Quality MP3' that by default was actually only Constant Bit Rate (CBR) 128K, I wasn't interested in greater than 320K studio quality but in 32K-320K Variable Bit Rate (VBR) quality. Since then, folk have failed or been unable to add the requisite 'ugly' plugins that are part of the 'buntu-restricted-extras suite, which hasn't been helped by release varying Synaptic 'glitches'. Also, in typical typo-intolerant fashion, folk have failed to enter the profile modifications that I recommended. To recap, after Adding 'buntu-restricted-extras and then Sound Juicer, select Edit Preferences, select the requisite CD Drive, select Eject after extracting tracks and Open music folder when finished. Next select 'CD Quality, MP3 (.mp3 type)' Output Format and Edit Profiles, then select 'CD Quality, MP3' and Edit. Finally Edit the Gstreamer pipeline as follows and then Close, Close, Close to save all modifications, which become the defaults. Initial, default profile : audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lame name=enc mode=0 vbr-quality=6 ! Id3v2mux Amend mode=0 to mode=1, to obtain 'Joint Stereo' Amend vbr-quality=6 to vbr-quality=2, for the benefit of young and keen of hearing Insert vbr=4 to employ LAME's new VBR algorithm (nothing to do with misquoted quality) Insert vbr-min-bitrate=32, to set the minimum VBR bitrate Insert vbr-max-bitrate=320, to set the maximum VBR bitrate Hence the final, modified profile : audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lame name=enc mode=1 vbr=4 vbr-min-bitrate=32 vbr-max-bitrate=320 vbr-quality=2 ! Id3v2mux (KennoVO - note that 'lame name=enc' ensures use of the correct LAME plugin.) In general, note that distributions like LinuxMint-9 'dvds' and PCLinuxOS have got round all the plugin addition problems by pre- including them. Meanwhile, Ubuntu 10.10 Alpha2 briefly introduced a new default as follows, but it's been abandoned in later development releases, so who knows what the formal release will use : audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lamemp3enc name=enc target=0 quality=6 ! xingmux ! Id3v2mux I don't claim to have achieved perfection with my modifications, but most if not all listeners are content with achieved playback through reasonable equipment. For 'tinkerers' I attach a PDF file reproduction of Ubuntu 10.04's LAME information etc. ** Attachment added: Ubuntu 10.04 Lame Encoder etc Information https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sound-juicer/+bug/195483/+attachment/1639201/+files/Lucid-Isadora-gst-inspect-etc.pdf -- Sound Juicer - MP3 quality doesn't change https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/195483 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 648179] [NEW] broken fast forward on totem movie player

[Bug 638686] Re: maverick vnc server gtk application crash due to no keymap
I spoke too soon. The newer version has caused problems. Not least of which almost 100% CPU usage, an endless supply of new windows being created in the task bar, and for loads of packages to report broken dependencies meaning I can't upgrade anything else using the usual methods (Synaptic, apt-get, etc). So, I've decided to downgrade back to 2.21.7 and make do with ssh access for the time being. Here's how I downgrade, if anyone is interested wget http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/g/gtk+2.0/libgtk2.0-0_2.21.7-1ubuntu1_i386.deb sudo dpkg -i libgtk2.0-0_2.21.7-1ubuntu1_i386.deb -- maverick vnc server gtk application crash due to no keymap https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/638686 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+2.0 in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 615300] Re: Enable default Evolution signature as Sent from Ubuntu
@tracyanne It's only much ado about nothing if you think that Canonical should not have higher moral standards then for instance Microsoft. Also if you can't see that a majority is against this, you must be delusional. It certainly is an affront to a majority of the people who are the most active (you know, the community), the people who are contributing the most to Ubuntu and whom Canonical is so dependent on. -- Enable default Evolution signature as Sent from Ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/615300 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 615300] Re: Enable default Evolution signature as Sent from Ubuntu
@tracyanne It was not flagging a idea, it was already implemented. Also, I find your reasoning about the difference between Ubuntu/Mac/Windows and how easy it would be to turn it off/on flawed. That's not what the issue is here.
