Using Maverick Meerkat.

New problem with the update: I have the box marked Compress Weekends in

[Bug 667082] Re: 10.10 update caused evoulution tasks and memos to stop working

2010-11-08 Thread Matthew Smith
Strangely, appointments can be seen when clicking on the date on the top
bar. Even with the Calendar/Appointments/Locations dialogue open, when I
click on Calendar in Evolution, I cannot see anything and continue to
receive the warning that it must be restarted.

Still no idea how to find the hundreds of memos and tasks lost somewhere
in the bowels of Evolution.

[Bug 507236] Re: error saving files to FTP server vi gvfs APPEND command instead of OVERWRITE

2010-11-08 Thread habl
Working on Lucid Lynx and have the same problem. Updating to Maverick
not an option since I have other issues with that release. Problem
exists in both Geany and Gedit (didn't test others). I don't have
control over the server I'm working with, it's a hosted server so can't
check logs or change any settings. I'm working with more FTP-only
servers and most are working fine so it looks like a conflict with this
server.

[Bug 408417] Re: No option to log in remotely via XDMCP

2010-11-08 Thread Sebastien Bacher
yet it is ubuntu's responsibility to make sure that end user receives
product that provides the desired functionality and not half-baked
product.

the Ubuntu team is mostly volunteers, nobody in the team seems to be
using xdmcp and noticed that it was broken before upgrading, there is
probably a call for better testing there to avoid such issues

thinking about moving to different OS.

why not just contributing a fix or changing the login manager to one
support xdmcp? Other linux distributions will have the same issue since
the bug is a gdm one

Its a real shame that company so loved by its users, doesn't listen to
them anymore..

nobody there not listening, the number of contributors is just limited
and the team can't work on all issues immediatly...

OK, it is a debdiff that fixes this... but how about an update included

Why don't you just simply include the update in the Update Manager ?

[Bug 306630] Re: nautilus should copy/move smarter (queue files)

2010-11-08 Thread Gustavo Acuña
my 2 cents, what about this?

Every copy operation initiated (after the first one) starts in a paused
state (its queued), so you see the list of copying operations (or
pending ones), but you put a play/pause button next to each operation,
so in the standard case everything gets queued, but you press play in
the file(s) that you want to want to do concurrently and its done.

Theres no checking for destination, size or any other intelligent
feature, just autoqueue with the possibility to force parallel
copying/moving at the users discretion.

i think we wont have neither of the 2 problems on this case, later it
would be cool to arrange the order inside the queue but its out of this
scope i guess.

[Bug 660746] Re: System (notebook) freze after electric cable is detached

2010-11-08 Thread n3m3s1s4u
Hi,
I too am sadly having the same problem:
Asus K50ID Thought I was going mad, as I was using Mint 9 with no hassles
on this notebook. I first tried Mint 10 RC, which is based on Ubuntu 10.10 and
got the freezing. Then I decided it must be because of it being a RC so
thought I would try a full release, clean install of 10.10 32bit, and am now
getting the same problem so there is something in 10.10 that has been
changed from 10.04 LTS that is making our notebooks freeze up when we switch
over to battery from mains.
Anyone got a fix, or an idea on getting around this?
In the interim I am going to switch back to a LTS version where there are no
problems

thanks

[Bug 672183] Re: Canot burn DVD video in Brasero

2010-11-08 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.
If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Ditto. Recently did several rounds of updates (not sure which), but in
the October timeframe. Happens on one, but not a 2nd, 64-bit 10.04

Problem occurred after reboot. There were 2 gnome-screensaver processes

[Bug 671933] Re: some times .jpg pictures not work..just report an error

2010-11-08 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 672531] [NEW] --geometry heights over 49 not honored.

2010-11-08 Thread Jacco van Schaik
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

When gnome-terminal is given a --geometry with a height (number of
lines) greater than 49, it will always create a window that is 49 lines
tall. Sizes below this are honored, but 49 and anything over that
results in a window that is 49 lines tall. I have plenty of room for a
taller window: the screen has a height of 1200 pixels, and I can
manually resize gnome-terminal windows to 64 lines. But the equivalent
--geometry option (either --geometry 80x64 or --geometry=80x64)
result in a 80x49 window.

[Bug 408417] Re: No option to log in remotely via XDMCP

I can confirm that XDMCP is working on debian squeeze.

Stranger than that is a box I have running Lucid, which does work with XDMCP

On another box that I upgraded from Lucid to Maverick, XDMCP was working before
and stopped after the upgrade.

This reminds me of the pulseaudio saga, in case you still remember.

[Bug 57731] Re: Futex hang when exiting using the window close button

2010-11-08 Thread Wayne Salmiaker
You are right. I dont need to restore the signal handler - one system call less
in my signal handler.
I now saved a snapshot of the unfinished futex call. So I can experiment as
often as I want.
Poking a 1 does not work. But Poking a 0 works perfektly fine.
And youre also right : I cannot use strace when the process is alredy attached
to my ptrace stuff.
So I will implement some PTRACE_SYSCALL steps myself to see the process
continuing after poking a 0.

Do you think, that errno could be the problem as well? Maybe a system call is
assinging a value to errno. Then the signal arrives and the handler tries to
access errno, too, which is blocked now?
If really the debug() call is the reason, I wonder why this problem does not
happen more often. I am debugging a lot in my code. And besides the debug calls
like every 2nd or 3rd code line ends up as a system call. If interrupting a
system call and executing another system call in the handler should cause the
problem, I feel like this kind of deadlock should happen more often...

[Bug 671770] Re: Nautilus Crashes upon opening folder full of JPEG2000 files

[Bug 32194] Re: no way to set order of startup programs

2010-11-08 Thread Mahan
This solution worked for me:

when you add programs to load at startup (from startup applications)
some *.desktop files will be created at ~/.config/autostart. Now in
order to change the startup order, you just need to rename those files
(order them alphabetically as you desire). I tried giving them prefixes
like 01XXX.desktop, 02YYY.desktop and etc. My problem is now solved but
this might not be the total workaround.

Re: [Bug 57731] Re: Futex hang when exiting using the window close button

2010-11-08 Thread Rogers Veber
You are right. I dont need to restore the signal handler - one system call
 less in my signal handler.
I now saved a snapshot of the unfinished futex call. So I can experiment as
 often as I want.
Poking a 1 does not work. But Poking a 0 works perfektly fine.

Thank you for this information.

And youre also right : I cannot use strace when the process is alredy
 attached to my ptrace stuff.
So I will implement some PTRACE_SYSCALL steps myself to see the process
 continuing after poking a 0.

Yes that is the best way; big work too, cheers.

Do you think, that errno could be the problem as well? Maybe a system call is
assinging a value to errno. Then the signal arrives and the handler tries to
access errno, too, which is blocked now?

When we see that a syscall may be automatically restarted using the
SA_RESTART flag in the struct sigaction (you may have to set this flag
too if you plan to use sigaction(2) instead of signal(2)), then it may
be safe to interrupt a syscall and the errno will be restored safely by
the kernel when restarting the syscall.
So, I do not believe it could be the problem for the kernel part.
Il you choose not to use the SA_RESTART, your interrupted syscall may
return -1 and have an EINTR errno. This could cause trouble in the user
land depending on the code being executed.
As I am no more accurate with this and the kernel stuff, you may
consider my answer with lot of prudence.

If really the debug() call is the reason, I wonder why this problem does not
happen more often. I am debugging a lot in my code. And besides the debug
calls like every 2nd or 3rd code line ends up as a system call. If
interrupting a system call and executing another system call in the handler
should cause the problem, I feel like this kind of deadlock should happen
 more often...

I am not surprised by the non systematic circumstance because the debug() code
may not be in totality re-entrant critical
and you need to have your synchrone part of your program running debug() too to
be in a re-entrant trouble.
Just suppress the debug() call and test, you will have your answer.

[Bug 672572] [NEW] png in trash opens in firefox

2010-11-08 Thread tsg1zzn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I have set png files to open in image viewer (gpicview). But when I
double click png files in the trash, firefox starts. Instead of
displaying the png file, firefox asks for an application for opening the
file, and suggests nautilus. When I click OK, nautilus tries to show the
png file as if it was a folder, but obviously fails.

[Bug 635569] Re: Totem can play a MPEG4 in MKV, but not in AVI

2010-11-08 Thread YannUbuntu
I am now on Maverick.

GUVCVideo is not the same version, so I am not sure the codecs
correspond.

I had no problem with :
- video codec : MJPG compressed
- video format : AVI

and
- video codec : MPEG4-ASP
- video format : AVI

But I have a problem with the following (if I record 5 seconds, the video
finishes after 3 seconds in Totem and VLC ... maybe it's a record problem of
GUVCViewer, but maybe not as I saw a similar problem with Cheese record) :
- video codec : MPEG4-AVC (H264)
- video format : AVI

[Bug 671397] Re: Add an option to open the file browser when a path is highlighted

No idea is a bash script would do that Pedro :) I'm just a lambda user,
I don't know what is technically the best solution. How could I create
this script?
