[Bug 592859] Re: New Message Notifications in Empathy are not Attention-Grabbing Enough

2011-03-26 Thread Daniel Clem
I would like to jump on this band wagon too. I prefer Pidgin for this
and other reasons. Such as all the various plugins, customizable sounds,
and the abilitiy to save custom Smiley Icons, Including animated ones.
WHICH I LOVE.

So I will confirm this and will also seach for the Smiley Icon bug here
on launchpad. If I can't find it I'll report a new one. Empathy Is a
great app for how simple but usefull it is cause it has a fully
functioning Facebook chat that is Built in STOCK, No stupid plug in that
you need to dig around for.

replaced the patch with a debdiff (was rcs) and used the gnome bug id
rather than a distro-specific one. semi-pointless i know, but it'll be
easier for anyone who wants to patch eog themselves.

and sent to the mailing list, which is what i actually came here to post
but forgot...

heh - i'm not going to redesign and rewrite *that*, Mike: it's so
integral it would probably be quicker to just start again from
(near-)scratch. it's not ideal, but it seems to work for everything
outside of the pathological cases i spotted, so i think i'll stick to
lower-hanging fruit instead. :P

thanks for the feedback/suggestions/etc

[Bug 742979] [NEW] Shortcut icons for local and global version of same program get mixed.

2011-03-26 Thread Zilvador
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Reproducible.
I downloaded Firefox 4 and while having a shortcut for Firefox 3.6 on my panel,
I unzipped the FF4 folder and dragged the launcher to the panel to create a
shortcut. I gave it a distinct name and both this one and the original one
worked.
After restart the new AND the original launcher point to FF4, which was
installed in my private directory and they have the same distinct name, that I
gave the first one (that is, they are identical except for their positions on
the panel). I can rename the path of the original launcher again, but the same
thing happens.
Tried two times with same result.

[Bug 491483] Re: Since failsafe-x was enabled in karmic it starts if gdm is disabled and kdm is used. (low graphics mode error)

2011-03-26 Thread tonyw
This bug still re-appears in lucid. The underlying problem seems to be
that /etc/init.d/failsafe-x.conf is in the wrong package. x11-common
should know nothing about gdm and yet here is a gdm referencing file, so
as soon as you stop using gdm 2.3, the system is broken. This file
should be in the gdm package - along with its supporting cast of files,
or perhaps in a separate package where there is need for common elements
amongst display managers.

I came up against this problem with re-deploying gdm 2-20 in the lucid
environment (to get multi-seat working).

2011-03-26 Thread jimmycourge
The update also seems to have reset the permissions on my optical drive
so that my burning software no longer has permission to access the drive
and seems to have ruined a disk that was in a drive with hardware and
software designed to prevent just this from ever happening. kudos - the
windowing system no longer reliably works and file permissions which had
no reason to be touched at all were reset to nonsense values.

2011-03-26 Thread Michael Bienia
My guess is that it happened in the past when the package switched from
directory to that symlink (between dapper and hardy somewhen) that it
didn't get handled properly (A directory will never be replaced by a
symbolic link to a directory or vice versa (Debian policy §6.6.4)). But
as this didn't cause any problems till now it went unnoticed. So only
system which got installed a couple releases ago and got upgraded
constantly should be affected.

[Bug 741978] Re: Running nautilus from terminal causes gnome-session to start too many nautilus processes

2011-03-26 Thread Pieter
Same problem here, when in the shell executing:

  nautilus -q nautilus --no-desktop

nautilus will spawn indefinitely. This can be stopped with executing
'nautilus -q'. The previous command is important, as it is used to debug
extensions for nautilus, the command will allow to capture the output of
nautilus, assuming it works as expected.

To work around this problem, edit
'/usr/share/applications/nautilus.desktop', change X-GNOME-AutoRestart
to false and add the line 'AutostartCondition=GNOME
/apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop'.

[Bug 626016] Re: Swell Foop game does not work

2011-03-26 Thread Jonathan Siebott
#11 fixes the bug. I have made the changes and am providing the entire
gnome game files for SwellFoop and Lightsoff. Simply remove the old
directory and replace with the ones I provide...

 /usr/share/gnome-games/swell-foop
/user/share/gnome-games/lightsoff

You'll need to run Nautilus as root to do this. To run as root, enter
the following command in terminal...

gksudo nautilus --browser %U

Awesome, thanks for the info guys. I also have this issue on my Lenovo

or start programs on media insertion, it works! Finally I can actually
play audio CDs! Wow, I'm glad I looked into this today and very glad I
found this thread. I just discovered my CD collection from 5 years ago,
so now I can rip the good stuff and forget about audio CDs once again.

[Bug 743252] [NEW] Empty printer list in gtk print dialog

2011-03-26 Thread Anakin Starkiller
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 10.04.2 (LTS) with every latest updates.

I've got no more printer showing up in the gtk print dialog (of evince,
chromium, and every other gtk applications that uses this backend I
guess).

OpenOffice print dialog does work as well as the one in Okular (KDE pdf
viewer), so it is not a CUPS related bug.

I thought it was related to the gtkrc theme, but I've got the same issue
with a new user.

Any idea ?

[Bug 743302] [NEW] gnome-terminal fails to save history

2011-03-26 Thread Laurent Schwarzenberger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Through normal usage gnome-terminal fails to save its bash history once
closed. The .bash_history file exists in my home directory.

This problem only occurs if using the X button or File Close to close
the terminal. If I use CTRL+D the history seems to be saved.

[Bug 743340] [NEW] Cannot move items in window list applet

2011-03-26 Thread Richard Eames
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I used to be able to change the order of the windows in the window list
applet by drag'n'drop, now I'm unable to do so.

Steps to reproduce:
1: Open up two different programs. E.g, terminal, then gedit
(once both are open they should be in the order terminal, gedit in the task
list bar applet)
2: Try to drag the gedit item to over the terminal item

Expected results: should change the order of the items
Actual results: Nothing happens

[Bug 743345] [NEW] Upon reboot automatically mounted NFS shows twice in Places and in the File Manager

2011-03-26 Thread Peshko R.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I have the follwoing fenomenan. In my /etc/fstab I have an entry to
automatically mount my NAS. Here is my entry:

192.168.1.10:/mnt/array1/My_NAS /media/My\040NAS nfs _netdev,
auto,rw,hard,users,intr 0 0

When my laptop boots it successfully mounts the NFS NAS and I get an
icon My NAS on my dekstop that points to the NAS. If I double click on
the icon it opens my file browser and I can browse thru my NAS fodlers.

What I see on the left hand side of the file browser is that I have to
entries for My NAS. One of it has a button to shows that it is mounted
and the other does not.

If I go to Places I also see 2 entries for My NAS. One of it takes me
to browsing the NAS and if I click on the other it says Unable to mount
... busy or already mounted. Which makes sense.

If I unmount everything and mount everything back, it seems to be ok.

The question is why do I have 2 (two) entries for the same thing? I
moved to 10.10 2 days ago and honestly I did not have this issue with
10.04. Everything started the moment I upgraded.

I gave #28 a shot, it works for me too.

@RossH: You might have left out #!/bin/sh at the top of
/etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default, I copied /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default.sample
to /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default and appended the killall command.

[Bug 743364] [NEW] gnome-sound-recorder fails to record from internal mic on MacBook

2011-03-26 Thread Chad A. Davis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

MacBookPro6.1 with Natty (dev. branch 2011-03-26) and gnome-sound-
recorder 2.32.0-0ubuntu6.

Other applications, e.g. gtk-recrordMyDesktop, record from the internal
mic just fine.

gnome-volume-control also shows feedback that a signal is coming from
the internal mic when speaking. gnome-sound-recorder does not pick this
up, however. Rather the recording is silent, no static, nothing garbled,
simply no signal at all.

[Bug 743368] [NEW] No signal from external mic on MacBookPro

2011-03-26 Thread Chad A. Davis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

The external mic provides no input signal. gnome-volume-control shows the input
channels internal microphone, analog line-in, rear microphone and analog
microphone. None of these pick up anything from the external microphone.
Hardware is set to Analog stereo duplex, but I also tried Analog Surround
4.0 + Analog Stereo Input without success.

Internal mic works (verified with gnome-volume-control and gtk-recordMyDesktop).
External microphone hardware was verified with another computer.

2011-03-26 Thread Chad A. Davis
On the MacBookPro6.2 the keyboard controls do not work either. I have
not yet found a way to adjust the backlight, manually or otherwise.

[Bug 625670] Re: Not all desktop items are themed

2011-03-26 Thread Andrew Potter
#28 does't work for me either, I made sure i covered everything in #32
(if I understood it all). my /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default:

#!/bin/sh
killall -9 gnome-settings-daemon

If it helps, (i'm pretty new to linux) opening a terminal and passing
sudo gnome-settings-daemon just returns errors to the terminal, but
actually fixes the theme
