[Bug 304889] Re: Does not use system proxy settings
As an update to everyone interested. There are tons of limitations as to getting this bug complete. As of right now proxy works for Gabble (mind glib-networking has to be installed), there is some interest in porting idle to GIO which may allow proxying to work. For a lot of other connection managers this either isn't possible or severely limited. haze is a libpurple implementation, and telepathy has no control over that. Plus haze can't allow popups for password questions and therefore even if libpurple supported it, it would have severe limitations. This is not an empathy bug but a bug with the connection manager themselves, and therefore I'm closing all empathy instances. ** Changed in: empathy (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Invalid ** Changed in: empathy (Ubuntu Lucid) Status: Confirmed = Invalid ** Changed in: empathy Importance: High = Undecided ** Changed in: empathy Status: Unknown = New ** Changed in: empathy Remote watch: GNOME Bug Tracker #492076 = None ** Changed in: empathy Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to empathy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/304889 Title: Does not use system proxy settings -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Hi Roert, I know it cannot work if you encrypt your whole $HOME directory, but there is no reason it should not work if you have only one encrypted directory (Private it is called, I am not sure now whether it is the default or my name) in your otherwise unencrypted directory. [Bug 779509] Re: keyboard layout settings not remembered
Ok...but do you have two keyboard layouts to choose from or only one? Does the indicator applet show in the tray accordingly? What keyboard did you choose during Natty first installation? Is it the same one as the layout you use now or did you add an additional keyboard layout afterward? It seems to me that the french Ubuntu desktop I used for version upgrade has added the french azerty layout as a default although I asked for the swiss french layout...then I had to add the missing fr_CH layout and now I cannot get rid of the french layout which I don't need - after each reboot, the french layout reappears as default although it was removed in the previous session! A possible clue is that there is a system-wide parameter somewhere that is used early at boot; and it would add the wrong keyboard and select it as default among possible configured layouts (which I think are stored in the gconf key /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/779509 Title: keyboard layout settings not remembered -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 737891] Re: [Arrandale] gnome-display-properties unable to correctly enable monitors connected to VGA
I guess I am affected by this bug too. I have a Dell D820 with Intel Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller. I use a docking station to which 2 identical monitors HP LA1951g are hooked, one DVI, one VGA. The monitors native resolution is 1280 x 1024 at 60 Hz. With Maverick I had to create a xorg.conf file to get both to work at native resolution in extended desktop setup (so virtual screen of 2560 x 1024) - but at least it worked fine (LVDS was shut off). The fact that compiz was off didn't bother me at all. With Natty ... oh boy ! Not a chance (all effect were off). Natty seems to ignore xorg.conf file completely. Moreover, it's not even offering/detecting the native 1280 x 1024 resolution on the VGA display (?!?!?) any more. The max resolution available on it with Natty is 1024 x 768 ... I am also hit by bug #745112. [Bug 185165] Re: Ubuntu does not open MS Windows internet shortcuts with 'url' extension
This bug is one of those baffling things: easy to fix, benefits the project and encourages migration from Windows - but nothing is done about it for years, while massive changes are implemented elsewhere in the project. No 'average' user is going to find this thread and apply the fix themselves. They'll just think Ubuntu is broken because they cannot open their files. [Bug 779509] Re: keyboard layout settings not remembered
Furthermore, I don't see why the mecanism for disabling the indicator from showing in the tray would not work or would not be implemented (as stated in other threads about this indicator): in my opinion, the code for handling the gconf key /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/general/disable_indicator is implemented in the source code package gnome-settings-daemon-2.32.1. Here is the code in gsd-keyboard-xkb.c (gnome-settings-daemon/plugins/keyboard) handling that key: static void show_hide_icon () { if (g_slist_length (current_kbd_config.layouts_variants) 1) { if (icon == NULL) { GConfClient *conf_client = gconf_client_get_default (); gboolean disable = gconf_client_get_bool (conf_client, DISABLE_INDICATOR_KEY, NULL); g_object_unref (conf_client); if (disable) return; xkl_debug (150, Creating new icon\n); icon = gkbd_status_new (); g_signal_connect (icon, popup-menu, G_CALLBACK (status_icon_popup_menu_cb), NULL); } } else { if (icon != NULL) { xkl_debug (150, Destroying icon\n); g_object_unref (icon); icon = NULL; } } } Perhaps this function is not doing what it should ?
