[Bug 269215] Re: There is a problem with the configuration server. (/usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256)

2011-05-11 Thread Tetsuro Kikuchi
I have encountered the same problem.

When I run /usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 from a terminal,
the following message appeared:

Please contact your system administrator to resolve the follwing problem:
Could not open or create the file (null); this indicates that there may be a
problem with your configuration, as many programs will need to create files in
your home directory. The error was Failed to create file
'/tmp/gconf-test-locking-file-X6BCVV': Permission denied (errno = 13).
Can't remove file (null): Bad address

Does anyone have an idea to deal with this problem?

[Bug 753707] Re: gdm autologin does not work in Natty if ecryptfs is used

2011-05-11 Thread Robert Ancell
Hi Tomas,

Yes, autologin cannot work if you use ecryptfs. This is because the
password must be entered to decrypt the filesystem, and autologin does
not prompt for a password.

Is the bug here simply that you have a ~/.ecryptfs but are not using
ecryptfs? If so, the solution is to make the check more intelligent.
Does anyone know what exactly we need to check for to see if ecryptfs is
in use?

[Bug 766530] Re: vinagre uses wrong keyboard layout

2011-05-11 Thread Frederik Elwert
@georg.hoermann: So are you using a tightvnc client to log into a vino
server on 11.04?

That might be a hint that I falsely accused vinagre, and the actual
issue is with vino. OTOH, as I only upgraded the client machine to
11.04, I thought that the bug was introduced in the vinagre client with
11.04.

We probably need some more research here, I’ll see if I can find the
time to play around a bit with various client/server combinations.

[Bug 304889] Re: Does not use system proxy settings

2011-05-11 Thread Brian Curtis
As an update to everyone interested. There are tons of limitations as
to getting this bug complete. As of right now proxy works for Gabble
(mind glib-networking has to be installed), there is some interest in
porting idle to GIO which may allow proxying to work. For a lot of
other connection managers this either isn't possible or severely
limited. haze is a libpurple implementation, and telepathy has no
control over that. Plus haze can't allow popups for password questions
and therefore even if libpurple supported it, it would have severe
limitations.

This is not an empathy bug but a bug with the connection manager
themselves, and therefore I'm closing all empathy instances.

@Brian No, proxy support works on gabble only for certain kinds of
configurations. For example a global HTTP proxy doesn't work. See
comment #118.

haze is *not* a libpurple implementation, and telepathy *does have*

[Bug 304889] Re: Does not use system proxy settings

2011-05-11 Thread Brian Curtis
http://telepathy.freedesktop.org/wiki/Components
haze is an implementation of libpurple, which telepathy does NOT have control
over.

Libpurple will allow for password prompts on proxies, haze can not use
these (idk why, this is all info from uptream)

Also , gabble I have been told just works.

[Bug 778968] Re: Whole system freezes when scrooling with middle mouse button

2011-05-11 Thread JohnC
This crash problem where the screen completely freezes happens
occasionally with other applications but is most prevalent when viewing
multi-page pdf files. Particularly when scrolling quickly with either
with middle mouse button or even when grabbing the scroll bar using the
mouse.

To try to overcome the problem I have upgraded to Ubuntu 11.04 but I am
still getting the same problem.

Can anyone help. What log files should I look at (it did crash once when
I used the log file viewer) or will I need to do a complete reinstall? I
am reluctant to do this as I have successfully upgraded Ubuntu since
9.04 (used since 7.04) with very few major problems but getting 5 or 6
screen freezes each day is making the system unusable.

[Bug 304889] Re: Does not use system proxy settings

2011-05-11 Thread Felipe Contreras
No, telepathy-haze is just another Telepathy Connection Manager. Read
the text you just shared:

Haze: A connection manager based on Pidgin's libpurple, supporting all
protocols in Pidgin (AIM, ICQ, Yahoo, MSN, etc) at a basic level, but
already very usable.

libpurple uses GConf's system proxy settings, which contain
authentication.

And you have been told wrong, here's a screenshot with the latest gabble not
working (latest glib, with glib-networking, with libproxy support):
http://people.freedesktop.org/~felipec/gabble-proxy.png

See?

Works fine with libproxy-simple though.

[Bug 185165] Re: Ubuntu does not open MS Windows internet shortcuts with 'url' extension

Tony Godshall:

I have fixed it before posting my previous message. Thank you for
pointing the obvious.

I haven't asked for a fix, I posted a message because I care for other
people and (believe or not) for the project. The people need a patch. An
unasked patch. A click to download me update type of patch. Not a
search all day long fix.

I hope it will be obvious some day to be included by default in ubuntu
or making a patch in ubuntu so people will not need to hype the subject
further.

[Bug 753707] Re: gdm autologin does not work in Natty if ecryptfs is used

2011-05-11 Thread TomasHnyk
Hi Roert,
I know it cannot work if you encrypt your whole $HOME directory, but there is
no reason it should not work if you have only one encrypted directory
(Private it is called, I am not sure now whether it is the default or my
name) in your otherwise unencrypted directory. It worked in Maverick after all.

So I think the bug is that assumption that .encryptfs means encrypted
$HOME directory is invalid. Therefore, the check should be more
intelligent, but I have no idea how to do that:-).

[Bug 779509] Re: keyboard layout settings not remembered

2011-05-11 Thread Gilles Tournier
Ok...but do you have two keyboard layouts to choose from or only one? Does the
indicator applet show in the tray accordingly?
What keyboard did you choose during Natty first installation? Is it the same
one as the layout you use now or did you add an additional keyboard layout
afterward?
It seems to me that the french Ubuntu desktop I used for version upgrade has
added the french azerty layout as a default although I asked for the swiss
french layout...then I had to add the missing fr_CH layout and now I cannot get
rid of the french layout which I don't need - after each reboot, the french
layout reappears as default although it was removed in the previous session!
A possible clue is that there is a system-wide parameter somewhere that is used
early at boot; and it would add the wrong keyboard and select it as default
among possible configured layouts (which I think are stored in the gconf key
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd).

[Bug 780506] Re: Microfono del portatile

2011-05-11 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.
There is also a vibrant support community available at

[Bug 737891] Re: [Arrandale] gnome-display-properties unable to correctly enable monitors connected to VGA

2011-05-11 Thread Obi1Kenobi
I guess I am affected by this bug too. I have a Dell D820 with Intel
Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller. I use a docking
station to which 2 identical monitors HP LA1951g are hooked, one DVI,
one VGA. The monitors native resolution is 1280 x 1024 at 60 Hz.

With Maverick I had to create a xorg.conf file to get both to work at
native resolution in extended desktop setup (so virtual screen of 2560
x 1024) - but at least it worked fine (LVDS was shut off). The fact that
compiz was off didn't bother me at all.

With Natty ... oh boy ! Not a chance (all effect were off). Natty seems
to ignore xorg.conf file completely. Moreover, it's not even
offering/detecting the native 1280 x 1024 resolution on the VGA display
(?!?!?) any more. The max resolution available on it with Natty is 1024
x 768 ...

I am also hit by bug #745112.

The Intel chipset video support is so badly broken on Natty that I had
to go back to Maverick.

I have no issues with 20 contacts (I created a temporary addressbook

On your observation that a few do not sync also, how many are in your

[Bug 185165] Re: Ubuntu does not open MS Windows internet shortcuts with 'url' extension

2011-05-11 Thread DavidGN
This bug is one of those baffling things: easy to fix, benefits the
project and encourages migration from Windows - but nothing is done
about it for years, while massive changes are implemented elsewhere in
the project.

No 'average' user is going to find this thread and apply the fix
themselves. They'll just think Ubuntu is broken because they cannot open
their files. It perpetuates the belief that Ubuntu / Linux is only for
geeks.

You've got to question how the project is prioritised.

[Bug 781223] [NEW] Shortcuts unusable due to focus loss

2011-05-11 Thread Wolter Hellmund
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

I have found that, since the update to Ubuntu 11.04, nautilus loses
focus frequently causing my keyboard shortcuts to not function at all.
To make the shortcuts available, I have to click on the desktop and
press the key combination.

I set the package to gnome-settings-daemon following the
FindRightPackage guide in the wiki. Although, previously I would have
blamed the problem on nautilus.

[Bug 779509] Re: keyboard layout settings not remembered

2011-05-11 Thread Gilles Tournier
Furthermore, I don't see why the mecanism for disabling the indicator from
showing in the tray would not work or would not be implemented (as stated in
other threads about this indicator): in my opinion, the code for handling the
gconf key /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/general/disable_indicator is
implemented in the source code package gnome-settings-daemon-2.32.1.
Here is the code in gsd-keyboard-xkb.c (gnome-settings-daemon/plugins/keyboard)
handling that key:

static void
show_hide_icon ()
{
if (g_slist_length (current_kbd_config.layouts_variants)  1) {
if (icon == NULL) {
GConfClient *conf_client =
gconf_client_get_default ();
gboolean disable =
gconf_client_get_bool (conf_client,
   DISABLE_INDICATOR_KEY,
   NULL);
g_object_unref (conf_client);
if (disable)
return;

xkl_debug (150, Creating new icon\n);
icon = gkbd_status_new ();
g_signal_connect (icon, popup-menu,
  G_CALLBACK
  (status_icon_popup_menu_cb),
  NULL);

}
} else {
if (icon != NULL) {
xkl_debug (150, Destroying icon\n);
g_object_unref (icon);
icon = NULL;
}
}
}

Perhaps this function is not doing what it should ? Now it's up to the
developper or maintainer of the code to check about that.

[Bug 781239] [NEW] Nautilus sometimes chrases when I click on Burn to disk in the right-click menu of a .iso image

double check all of the required dvd secuirty packages. That what I did.
May be some one can list all of the required add in that required to

[Bug 766539] Re: SD Card Reader Incomplete / Corrupt Files

2011-05-11 Thread martin
Thanks Amir, unfortunately implementing the patch is beyond me but I
guess if it exists that means someone should be able to integrate it
into Ubuntu in a future version. It's all a bit of a shame though, as
there was no problem in 10.04 and versions before that.

Just a note, the behaviour is exactly the same with Opensuse 11.4, but I
suppose this is to be expected if it's based on the same kernel.

[Bug 770380] Re: power meter panel icon shows duplicated information

2011-05-11 Thread Filofel
I have a variant here:
HP Elitebook 8530, two batteries (primary + travel).

When on the AC adapter, I get Laptop battery waiting to charge on both
(always, even when 100% full).
Behavior when running on batteries seems to be normal so far.

[Bug 554036] Re: some .CR2 (RAW) pictures are displayed mirrored

2011-05-11 Thread fgr
wow, this is bug over a year old and still not fixed :(
I have a new canon 1000d and make raw fotos .CR2 files and they are flipped
mirrored in this programms:
* shotwell 0.9.2
* Eye of GNOME 2.32.1

In the following apps the pictures are NOT mirrored, that means in the original
orientation:
* F-Spot 0.8.2
* digiKam - Version 1.9.0

what kind of bug is it? Do you need a example file?
