[Bug 1914289] Re: Nautilus takes ~1 minute to open
When experiencing the issue over the last couple of weeks, it seems as if the suggested workaround command ($ killall gvfsd-trash) makes the issue go away. (Next time I click on the nautilus icon after running the command it opens instantly.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1914289 Title: Nautilus takes ~1 minute to open To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1914289/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1914289] Re: Nautilus takes ~1 minute to open
I have been experiencing the same issue intermittently for probably a year. On my first attempt, the solution proposed in #3 make nautilus open instantly (after clicking the icon once more). Will try this a couple more times in the coming days/weeks and report back further results. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1914289 Title: Nautilus takes ~1 minute to open To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1914289/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

PS: I do not have any NFS shares, and I have tried disabling Tracker. (Added this detail, since a lot of user seems to have issues like this caused by the combination of NFS shares and Tracker.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1914289 Title: Nautilus takes ~1 minute to open To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1914289/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1914289] [NEW] Nautilus takes ~1 minute to open
Public bug reported: Almost every time I try to launch Nautilus – whether via the panel, via the terminal, or by clicking "Open" buttons in programs – it takes close to 1 minute to launch. I have timed it using a watch, and it seems to take between 30 seconds and 1 minute from the relevant button is pressed before Nautilus appears on screen. This has been occurring for months. I think it started occuring after updating to Ubuntu 20.10, but I no longer remember precisely. I guessed it was a known issue that would be fixed, or just an issue specific to my setup, but now I am beginning to wonder whether I am facing some kind of true bug. All my hours of Google-fu and poking around the system has turned up nothing useful. In contrast to e.g. #1886021, there are no error messaged in the terminal that give any hints. Nor are there anything useful in the syslog – at least that I am able to spot. Given how infuriating it is to always have to wait for 30+ seconds to open any file dialog, I am very willing to help debug this. But I have now reached the limits of my (admittedly limited) debugging abilities. [Bug 130259] Re: Slow moving of (media) files when viewing the target folder
Really strange, but it might just be a problem with my gear then. I get a very noticable slowdown even with such small files. Anyway, it isnt that much of a problem just closing the destination. -- Slow moving of (media) files when viewing the target folder https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/130259 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 130259] Re: Slow moving of (media) files when viewing the target folder
Seems to happen whenever I copy media files, may it be music - or, mostly wmv and avi-files. If I leave the target folder open in nautilus, the move is really slow, but if I close the target folder, it finish very quickly. Its just so slow that you know that it isn't supposed to be like this, probably 10 times slower than if you close the window. Maybe even more on video files. I forgot to mention in the first post that I was talking about moving files between harddrives. moving files around one drive is almost instant, like it should be. I can only test moving from NTFS -- ext3 and vice versa due to how my computer is set up, so I do not know if this might be different on other filesystems. The NTFS disk is a removable USB 2.0 harddrive. Since reporting the bug, I have found out that it happens 100% of the time if the target folder is open on nautilus, so that makes me suspect that it is in fact nautilus that is the problem. -- Slow moving of (media) files when viewing the target folder https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/130259 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 130259] Slow moving of (media) files when viewing the target folder
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus On Feisty 7.04, running all patches as of Friday August 3rd, moving media files with nautilus tends to be very slow. This only happens if the target folder is viewed in nautilus at the same time as the file is moved there.
