[Bug 399466] Re: "Creating image checksum" message not informative anough

2017-05-14 Thread Alecz20
This still happens on Ubuntu 16.04.
The burning itself is fast, takes a couple minutes, but the image checksum
takes about 20 minutes.
It is not clear what this does, why it happens and why it's so slow.
I canceled it when it was about 70% done and it said "Success 18.4 EB" (I only
wrote a 3.3 GB ISO).
This bug should be easily reproducible with any ISO.

[Bug 332646] Re: sftp does not set timestamps

2013-03-10 Thread Alecz20
When using scp, you can give the -p switch that will preserver
timestamps.

It would be nice if this would be the default behavior for sftp as well.
Alternatively, a config file for sftp would be acceptable.

I agree about the importance of the issue. Especially with images and
videos. If you lose the timestamp... you might lose it forever.

Workaround: copy from command line using the -p parameter (not the -P)

[Bug 442130] Re: Custom fstab causes duplicate entries for partitions in Places

2011-10-16 Thread Alecz20
@ artinP (bircoe):

Thanks for the link, but it did not address the issue of duplicated entries for
samba shares.
It did, however, contain other useful piece of information: mounting protected
samba shares without a credentials file.

Regarding the duplicated issue, I think the problem has to do with
/etc/fstab, /etc/mtab, and the way nautilus reads those files.

Once an entry in /etc/fstab is mounted, it appears in /etc/mtab, but for
some reason (usually when not using default options), the mtab entry is
different from the fstab entry. When nautilus reads the two files, it
gets confused, and shows both the fstab entry and the mtab entry.

I encountered the same bug while blanking a RW CD.

The CD was mounted and I right-click - Blank Disc

While the blanking was running the error message popped:

[Bug 174809] Re: Nautilus using more and more memory (depending on the system up-time)

2010-10-07 Thread Alecz20
I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit.

While copying a vew hundred GB of data from one partition to another, I
noticed that Nautilus was using about 1 GB of RAM (out of 4 GB).

After the transfer finished the usage remained the same.

Note that this is a fresh install, the only additional things were the
ATI proprietary driver, TrueCrypt, and VirtualBox, so no codecs, or
plugins.

[Bug 481643] Re: gnome-panel hangs when placed on bottom and enabling autohide

2010-07-16 Thread Alecz20
This bug is extremely trivial to troubleshoot:

1) Right-click on top panel - Properties

2) Select Orientation: Bottom

3) Check Autohide

4) Click Close

5) Make the panel hide/autohide

Why do we have to make trace if ANYONE can reproduce it? Some of us have no
idea how to get the traces, not to mention go through the hassle of recovering
the system after doing this steps!

The developers have better chance of fixing this if they do the above
steps themselves.

[Bug 444500] Re: smb shares listed twice

2010-06-08 Thread Alecz20
I have two shares mounted in /etc/fstab:

//server/alex /home/alex-server cifs
users,credentials=/home/alex/.smbcredentials,user=alex,iocharset=utf8,file_mode=0700,dir_mode=0700,uid=alex,gid=alex,auto

//server/server /home/server cifs
users,credentials=/home/alex/.smbcredentials,user=alex,iocharset=utf8,file_mode=0775,dir_mode=0775,uid=alex,gid=alex,auto

Regardless of the order or the names the share on //server/alex appears twice
in the removable devices, and if it does not appear at boot-up , it will
generate the error message posted in Comment #2.

After the error message, that share will be duplicated.

If I unmount, and re-mount, the share is not duplicated, but again,
after a few minutes, the error appears, and the duplicate appears with
it.

I hope this will help solve the bug, since I saw this occurring on a few
systems already.

[Bug 202800] Re: Notebook monitor does not turn off when idle

2010-03-25 Thread Alecz20
Your suggestion does not work. If I turn off the screen saver, then I
go to power manager, and set monitor to sleep after 1 minute, I will
just be looking at my desktop, and nothing will happen.

Strange is the fact that occasionally it works perfectly, and sometimes
it fails completely.

Another thing to mention, is that I have an External Monitor connected,
and the laptop lid is closed all the time.

I think the failure occurs when I connect the monitor, and set it to
display to the external monitor, but when I close the lid, the external
monitor shuts off. At this point, I move the mouse, the monitor comes
back one, and never shuts off again.

[Bug 114341] Re: Disk Usage Analyzer does not detect files in the directory

2009-12-21 Thread Alecz20
Hello,

I had some problems with the math not adding up in Disk Usage Analyzer:

Total Filesystem Capacity: 78.8 GB (used: 67.2 GB available: 11.6 GB)

But when I scan home in user mode, I get home usage to be: 27 GB

When I scan filesystem in user mode, I get filesystem usage to be: 36 GB

And when I scan filesystem in root mode, I get filesystem uage to be:
17.2 GB (with home/user to be 7.8 GB instead of 27 GB)

However, If I go in nautilus in root mode, / has a size of 56.4 GB
which is closer to the real value, but where are those extra GB? Disk
Usage Analyzer seems unable to find out no matter what mode I am running
it in.

[Bug 114341] Re: Disk Usage Analyzer does not detect files in the directory

2009-12-21 Thread Alecz20
I think I found my problem: There were some files that were supposed to
be on the network. They were mounted in my home directory using
pyNeighbourhood. I was using a backup program that was supposed to
backup files to that location. I think it tried to backup when the
backup computer was not mounted, so it copied the files in my home
directory.

Still I find it strange that Disk usage analyzed did not scan that
directory in either mode

Note that during scan I unmounted all network drives.

[Bug 86670] Re: Flurry of password requests make evolution unusable with down email server

I think my problem is also related to this bug.
If I leave evolution running all the time, when i get come from work I get the
message 'Server unexpectedly disconnected: Unknown error and asks for
password.

Evolution is set to remember the password, but I still have to re-enter
it.

I use gmail IMAP, and evloution 2.12.1 on Gutsy.

I still don't know how to reproduce it exactly, but it happens everyday
if I leave the client running.

[Bug 148701] Re: Search function in File browser does not function

2008-07-19 Thread Alecz20
I haven't upgraded to hardy yet (cause of some stories on forums), and I
can confirm this bug still occurs on 7.10 with all the updates. I
believe it can be patched for 7.10, as it is my favorite distro.

The only think that I (and many other users) want is for the search
button in a folder to work as if the user went to Places-Search for
files-browse to folder

I don't know about indexing and stuff, but searching one way works fine,
while the other way doesn't work at all. Just make them work the same
(in the good way)

Thanks, and still waiting for a patch (I don't want to re-compile
anything)
