[Bug 719879] [NEW] gimp-2.6 crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_is_a()
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gimp On a netbook. Opened a regular image stored on harddisk. Copy and pasted as new image a small selection of the original image. Stored the new image. Tried to close the original image. Computer would ask me whether I would like to kill gimp process as it is not responding. Declined. After a few minutes gimp crashed. This error is reproducible. Workaround is to close the original image before saving the new image. lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 10.10 Release:10.10 apt-cache policy gimpgimp: Installed: 2.6.10-1ubuntu3.1 Candidate: 2.6.10-1ubuntu3.1 Version table: *** 2.6.10-1ubuntu3.1 0 500 http://mirror.switch.ch/ftp/mirror/ubuntu/ maverick-updates/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2.6.10-1ubuntu3 0 500 http://mirror.switch.ch/ftp/mirror/ubuntu/ maverick/main i386 Packages ProblemType: Crash DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: gimp 2.6.10-1ubuntu3.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-25.44-generic 2.6.35.10 Uname: Linux 2.6.35-25-generic i686 NonfreeKernelModules: wl Architecture: i386 CrashCounter: 1 Date: Wed Feb 16 09:38:40 2011 EcryptfsInUse: Yes ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/gimp-2.6 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-Netbook 10.10 Maverick Meerkat - Release i386 (20101007) ProcCmdline: gimp-2.6 /home/username/Pictures/1970/01/01/DSC_0104_1.JPG ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SegvAnalysis: Segfault happened at: 0x3f40d0 g_type_check_instance_is_a+128: testb $0x4,0xe(%edx) PC (0x003f40d0) ok source $0x4 ok destination 0xe(%edx) (0x08c2) not located in a known VMA region (needed writable region)! It is strange that .gtk-bookmarks is not in your home folder and you are still seeing Documents, Music, Pictures, etc. in the Places menu. The ~/.gtk-bookmarks file actually stores the nautilus bookmarks, which show up in the Places menu. One thing that you might want to try is: Start nautilus Then right-click on a folder such as Pictures Choose Open with other application... OK, thats what I thought, I was just confused because I do not have a Files entry in my Places folder. These are the things you can please check: In your homefolder in the file .gtk-bookmarks is a list of the entries of the Places folder. They should be names something like: file:///home/yourname/Documents etc. Then you can check if the file ~/.local/share/applications/default.list exists and if there are any entries. (Does not exist per default) Then check /usr/share/applications/defaults.list and in particular the entries for: x-directory/normal=nautilus-folder-handler.desktop and inode/directory=nautilus-folder-handler.desktop What kind of 10.10 are you running? One more thing. You were saying that you were not able to report the evolution crash automatically. This is usually done by a tool called apport. And this is how you can turn it on: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Apport#How%20to%20enable%20apport Apport then allows you to send your bug report automatically.
