[Bug 1931685] [NEW] Ubuntu 21.04: ubuntu dock causes windows in Activities view get cutt off at the bottom

2021-06-11 Thread Anand
Public bug reported:

On ubuntu 21.04 and on 21.10. When I open the activities view with a few
windows open the bottom edge of the windows (with the window names) get
cut off, the bottom of the workspaces bar on the right side also gets
cut off.

When the workspaces bar is fully extended, the windows can be seen
fully. So when I hover over the workspaces bar, or there are multiple
workspaces with windows in them, or with an extension to always keep the
workspaces open, this issue doesn't impact anything. However, the issue
still exists because you can see the bottom of the workspaces bar being
cut off.

When I connect a second monitor, and arrange the monitors one above the
other (with the top one as the permanent), I can see the cut off UI
elements on the bottom monitor.

With the ubuntu dock extension disabled, none of these issues are
present.

Here are a few screenshots that show the bug in action:
https://ibb.co/album/4whv2c

I could NOT spot this issue on a clean install of ubuntu 20.04. But I
could see it on clean installs of both on 20.10 and on 21.04. This
exists both on Wayland and Xorg.

This might be related to this prior issue:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-
dock/+bug/1834967 . Maybe this issue was fixed in 20.04 but not on the
later versions.

[Bug 1834967] Re: Windows in Activities might be partially off screen

2021-06-08 Thread Anand
I can interact with the windows normally, the bottom of the windows just
gets cut off sometimes.

The bottom reappears when I hover over the virtual desktops and the
right side bar expands.

[Bug 1834967] Re: Windows in Activities might be partially off screen

2021-06-05 Thread Anand
It looks like this issue is back in Ubuntu 21.04. On a fresh install on
the same laptop I can see this issue on 21.04 but I cannot see it on
20.04.

The issue only occurs when the ubuntu dash extension is enabled. It also
persists when I have disabled the ubuntu dash and enabled dash to dock.

I can see it with 3 nautilus windows opened simultaneously.

When plugged into a 2nd monitor with the monitors oriented top and
bottom (and the top monitor being the primary), I can see the cut off
elements extend into the bottom monitor.

I could replicate the issue on wayland and on xorg, and I could
replicate the issue on a gnome-boxes VM too (on the live ISO).

[Bug 1164016] Re: restore type-ahead find

2014-06-16 Thread Ajay Anand
Jumping to the file beginning with the typed letter is NOT the best
behavior.

Searching all the folders and subfolders when something is typed is also
not the best behavior.

THE BEST BEHAVIOR IS:

Searching all the folders and subfolders when something is typed is the
best behavior given a toggle button to enable/disable subfolder search.
If subfolder search is disabled only current folder will be searched.
This amalgamates best feature of both sides.

Until the best behavior (mentioned above) is incorporated, I recommend
using the fallback mode: grep and find.

[Bug 816163] [NEW] Please include support for RFC6189 (ZRTP)

2011-07-25 Thread Anand Kumria
Public bug reported:

Hi,

It would be great if empathy support RFC6189 (ZRTP) across the various
protocols which support it.

Typically SIP and XMPP/Jingle since they both use RTP; just as having
OTR for messaging is useful, having ZRTP is useful for confidentially of
voice communications as well.

Thanks,
Anand

[Bug 296867] Re: empathy needs to support OTR encryption

2011-07-25 Thread Anand Kumria
Hi Jordon,

You indicated in https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16891 that
there would be a monthly update.

And earlier you indicated that people should watch:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16891 and
https://bugs.freedesktop.org//show_bug.cgi?id=29904

Do you have a code repository that someone can checkout and assist you
with thing can see?

Thanks,
Anand

Well I get this bug on 10.04 (lucid lynx); so it is likely permission related -

Re: [Bug 447226] Re: gdm does not start after bootup

2009-11-13 Thread Anand Kumria
It sounds like your /tmp is not being cleared. It is on a tmpfs, on a
real disk? Is it mounted with relatime?

Also - why did you decide to use this bug when it is clearly different?

Your system boots -- to text mode. Totally different bug that I
reported a number of weeks ago (and which was subsequently fixed).

After few seconds of the white logo splash-screen the computer switches to
 text mode and I get:
   *Stopping the Firestarter firewall.

   *Starting the NTP server ntp

and after that the normal CL login. I have tried to start the gdm from

gdm-binary[2798]: WARNING: GdmLocalDisplayFactory: maximum number of X
display failures reached: check X server log for errors
But I found that this is due to the /tmp/.X0-lock if I delete it I can run
the gdm, buts it behave exactly like it does when I start the machine in a
 normal way.

I have learned, by change, that the only way to get the gdm to start is
to login to the multi-user login, delete the /tmp/.X0-lock file, run
startx as myself, stop the GUI by login me out using the System - Log
out *user* menu function and then run sudo gdm.

I tried to change the start on stanza in /etc/init/gdm.conf, Scott mentions
above, but it did not help. The output from cat /proc/cmdline is:
 root=UUID=2e38cdfc-ed51-4217-b6bf-968eaeb364af ro quiet splash

 Any ideas

[Bug 447226] Re: gdm does not start after bootup

2009-10-13 Thread Anand Kumria

Hi Scott,

Tried this suggested change to the dependency list, and it did not
change how things behaved. i.e. I still got a black screen into normal
multi-user graphical boot..

I do not think it is a dependency issue, as I can startup to multi-user
(in text mode) and manually start 'gdm'.

Which works fine. I then manually edited /etc/init/gdm.conf and removed
the exit 0 when 'text' is in /proc/cmdline.

And then: 'start gdm' also works fine.

So:
 - when the system is booted into multi user (or single user) mode, I can
manually get the gdm service to start
 - when run under strace, the gdm service starts all the time (albeit slowly)

Hmm, actually, it might be a dependency issue -- perhaps X (and/or gdm)
is depending upon something else working? Is there a way to see in what
order services were kicked off by Upstart? Then I can have gdm depend on
the very last service and then bisect the list to see if adding anothing
dependency helps.

Regards,
Anand

2009-10-13 Thread Anand Kumria

Hi,

Not all directory files in the directory /usr/share/desktop-
directories/ have an Icon= line in them.

This was causing software-center to crash (and burn).

The affected files, on my system, were:

AdventureGames.directory, SimulationGames.directory,
StrategyGames.directory

which are all part of gnome-menus. It may be useful to put in an Icon=
line so that they show with the appropriate icon.

After (many) reboots and some further investigation I believe the bug is
actually in Upstart.

With the /usr/local/sbin/gdmtest script being:

eve[/etc/init]% cat /usr/local/sbin/gdmtest
#!/bin/sh

FILE=/var/tmp/gdmtest

echo start $FILE
date $FILE
echo 0 $FILE
strace -ttt -f -ff -s2000 -o /var/tmp/gdmtesttrace gdm
echo 1 $FILE

I am able to consistently boot into a (very slow) graphical environment
which leads me to believe that this is a timing / dependancy bug of some
description.

I have the ~500 files available, for analysis, but am kind of at a loss
as to where to begin.

Assistance appreciated.

Thanks,
Anand

[Bug 447226] [NEW] gdm does not start after bootup

2009-10-09 Thread Anand Kumria
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Hi,

This is not the same bug as #430494.

What happens is that the system boots and when gdm is started my screen
goes blank.

The keyboard does not respond to input, it is not possible for me to
switch to any other virtual terminal.

I can successfully boot into 'single' user mode and after (many) reboots
have discovered that if I include the word 'text' on the command line,
this prevents the gdm service from being started by upstart.

I believe there are a number of problems.
1. gdm hitting an assertion and dying
2. upstart noticing that gdm has died and respawning it (or not respawning it
-- hard to tell as the system is unresponsive in a normal bootup)

When I have the 'text' keyword on the kernel command line, I can boot to
normal multiuser mode. From there I can see try to run gdm, which
upstart runs. It logs the fact that gdm main process ended, respawning
and eventually gdm respawning too fast, stopped. I am, however, able
to successfully launch gdm (and then login and work normally) by running
'gdm' as root. Which places the problem squarely in between the
interaction upstart and gdm.

[Bug 415126] [NEW] playing from a DAAP server only works for the first song

2009-08-17 Thread Anand Kumria
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Description:Ubuntu karmic (development branch)

2)

3)

I have an Ubuntu 9.04 machine with mt-daapd installed. I can play songs
from here, one by one, fine. If I start playing all the songs what
should happen is that I hear the music.

4)

What actually happens is that the first song is played properly but the
subsequent songs are inaudible. Rhythmbox thinks it is playing the song
- but it actually is not.

The songs, on the server, are stored in Ogg Flac format. Hard to tell if
the problem is Rhythmbox or the server side but since I see the problem
with Rhythmbox, I am reporting it here first.

[Bug 389057] Re: evolution crashed with SIGSEGV in g_main_context_dispatch()

2009-07-17 Thread Anand Kumria

Hi,

It is probably worth reading Jan's comments:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/389057/comments/5

Note that it has been over a month since I initially reported this bug
and, as I am running a development release, I do not have the same
version of Evolution installed.

However I have had the problem re-occur but infrequently. Since I had
already it as a bug, I have not forwarded those to launchpad (nor have I
noted down when it occurred either).

Since the bug is infrequent, would you prefer that I just created
another report each time it occurs? Or what would you recommend?

Thanks,
Anand

here is one of the reports:

Is there any other suggestions you have to obtain information related to
this crash I can do?

Also, with respect to bug 389549, I am still pending on a response from you

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
 apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch
nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on
the crash report you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
 /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-
 file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where
_my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

Re: [Bug 335367] Re: evolution crashed with signal 7 in calloc()

2009-04-10 Thread Anand Kumria
So I was finally able to reproduce this, by modifing the subscription
file on the server (dovecot).

Simply put a blank line at the end of the subcription file and
evolution will get confused (displaying multiple 'strange' folders).

if you happen to either: move something into the folder, or attempt to
delete the folder (i.e. use the client to fix up a subscription
problem) then evolution crashes in this way.

Hope this helps,
Anand

So, I have run it under gdb, hopefully this is useful.

Thanks,

[Bug 148451] Re: gnome-screenshot crashed with SIGSEGV in readdir64_r() after print screen

2009-01-05 Thread Anand Kumria

It turns out that the bug is due to Xen kernel.

Basically you need to set hwcap 1 nosegneg in
/etc/ld.so.conf.d/xen.conf

As per https://kerneltrap.org/mailarchive/linux-
kernel/2007/11/28/455534/thread

I am only recording this here because I just spent a frustrating number
of hours when hitting the same bug -- and perhaps this can help someone
else out in the same situation.

Additionally you probably want to also upgrade the kernel as well.
