[Bug 2016395] [NEW] control-center sound using audio devices without consent

2023-04-15 Thread Ken Anderson
Public bug reported:

(Reporting for blind user ken)

gnome-control-center sound is forcing the selection of an input device
you do not have consent to use.The only option listed is CM108
microphone. None is not an option; it needs to be. Motherboard audio
is also missing.

Just because an audio device exists does not mean you have consent to
use it for desktop audio purposes. NONE must always be an option.
Audio output device also lacks none, though in this case it isn't
causing an issue because there is another audio output device. However,
using this audio output device without permission is a federal crime.
Unauthorized radio transmissions are not allowed.

Reproduce:
*
* Plug in digirig mobile which contains a USB hub, CM108 audio, and CP210
serial and ham radio rig interface circuitry.
* Enable pipewire as described here:
https://gist.github.com/the-spyke/2de98b22ff4f978ebf0650c90e82027e?permalink_comment_id=4116017
* Open control-center sound.
* Try to set output device to none.

Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS Linux ken-OptiPlex-760 5.15.0-69-generic #76-Ubuntu
SMP Fri Mar 17 17:19:29 UTC 2023 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

This is by no means the only audio device that is not yours to use
indiscriminately. There are many uses for audio devices that are not for user
interaction.

[Bug 1803993] Re: Password appears on the VT1 screen

2019-04-16 Thread Robert Anderson
I'm pretty sure I just encountered this bug, although all I did was
issue a shutdown, and very briefly I was able to see several plaintext
passwords that had been used to log in across several user accounts. I
am on Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS.

This was a shock for reasons which should be obvious.

[Bug 1758398] [NEW] nautilus doesn't show network shares on 18.04

2018-03-23 Thread Anderson Luiz Alves
Public bug reported:

After upgrade libglib2.0-0 from version 2.54.1-1ubuntu1 to 2.56.0-2ubuntu1
nautilus doesn't show on sidebar neither on desktop any mounted network share.

I think it happens because changes in gio/gunixmounts.c
at g_unix_is_system_fs_type() that added cifs and smbfs to ignore_fs.

Network shares was mounted by pam_mount on /media/user/something.
gsettings org.gnome.nautilus.desktop volumes-visible is set true.

On Ubuntu Bionic 18.04 (devel branch)
nautilus 1:3.26.2-0ubuntu3.1

[Bug 1548841] Re: Text Menus not displaying - org.gtk.vfs.Daemon

2016-02-24 Thread Peter Anderson
I can't believe it. I have been trying so many things to fix this bug.
The bug is now largely fixed but a few problems remain. (see below) Last
night just before I reported this bug, I removed and reinstalled the
compiz, unity and gconf packages using apt-get. I am not absolutely sure
that how much was actually removed as I got a number of messages about
not being able to remove /usr/share/dbus-1/services. files. In order to
let these packages be re-installed I removed the whole directory:

sudo rm /usr/share/dbus-1/services

The situation now is that the window text menus now appear in the unity
session. Further Alt+Tab now switches between windows.

Not quite clear what has fixed this - as it the reinstall or the removal
of the dbus-1 directory. The following problems still exist:

Changes to System Settings Appearance don't save and existing ones take no
effect, e.g. existing background.
Unable to start the Terminal app. It simply does not appear. Ctrl+Alt+F1 is
continues to fine.
The org.gtk.vfs message still appears at start up of the session.
Further I have just noticed that it appears when I press Browse Network on the
Files app.

The message may be completely irrelevant but it certainly did not appear
when I first installed ubuntu.

Dear Sebastian,
Will do. I have been doing a lot of purging and installing to try and fix
this bug but I always clear the errors and the bug is always there.
Thanks Peter.

[Bug 1021375] Re: Nautilus says the USB stick is read only when it is not

2015-08-22 Thread Jonathan Anderson
And it just got really interesting. After fighting this issue for hours,
I gave up and resolved to copying by terminal.

By force of habit, I accidently used nautilus once more to copy, after copying
a batch of files by terminal, and presto, it works.
Nautilus now copies files without complaining.
I don't understand what happens here.
Some cache of file / partition permissions that went old and was refreshed?

[Bug 1427974] Re: Evince keyboard input fails

2015-05-16 Thread Kevin Anderson
I can add more information to this.

It is affecting me on a fresh Lubuntu 15.04 32-bit install as well.

Evince version: 3.14.2

The pdf that is affected is here:
http://media.wizards.com/2014/downloads/dnd/5E_CHARACTERSHEETSV3.ZIP
It's from: https://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/character_sheets
Unzip the file, and open DnD_5E_CharacterSheet - Form Fillable.pdf in Evince.
In Lubuntu by default this is the default application to open it.

Click in any field and enter some text. Short or long, doesn't matter.
It will succeed.

Press tab, enter, or click away from the field. Your mouse will still
work in evince, but no keyboard input will. Keyboard works fine in any
other application.

This is not the only pdf to have this issue, but it is a concrete example of
one.

[Bug 1421325] Re: xdmcp server ubuntu 14.04 login error

2015-02-15 Thread James Anderson
Further experimentation resulted in a workaround.
I switched from GDM to LIGHTDM
Configured lightdm the same as for Ubuntu 12.04
XDMCP works as documented.
I can now login to the server from any thin client terminal.

** Changed in: gdm (Ubuntu)

+ xdmcp server ubuntu 14.04 LTS
Client side displays server log in screen correctly, however when a user name
is selected or manually entered the server will not accept any password,
displays authentication error and returns to main log in screen

I believe it is a configuration file issue on the server side, not sure which
configuration file though.
I have tried remmina and xepher from a client Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with same
results.

[Bug 1175947] Re: gvfs-copy --preserve doesn't work with MTP devices

2013-06-30 Thread Scott Anderson
Hi. I'm having the same problem with gvfs-copy --preserve not working
using Nautilus with a crossover cable, both running gvfs 1.12.1-0ubuntu1.2
Ubuntu LTS

In fact, the whole Nautilus-Samba relationship is so buggy (because of wireless
adapters being ON prior to Samba connection over cross-over) that most of the
time I just end up using FIlezilla to transfer files...
(maybe there's some fix, but I haven't found one...)

Sad too, because I really believe that the gvfs is a fantastic concept.

[Bug 1075837] Re: upgrade 12.10, launcher bar no app tabs

2012-11-07 Thread David Anderson
Denis refers to Gnome Classic (and Gnome Classic (no effects))
with that bar on the bottom. The workspace boxes at the right
of that bar show up for me and work properly, showing
the active apps. But the minimized apps
never show along the bottom.

I tried all 3 nvidia proprietary drivers available through the software-updater
/system-settings. Highest numbered 304.51. None made the
slightest difference.

Minimized apps disappear from the launcher bar at the bottom
but are still live.Which is quite annoying. So it's impossible
to usefully minimize things. All has to stay open on desktop to be usable.

[Bug 1075837] Re: upgrade 12.10, launcher bar no app tabs

2012-11-07 Thread David Anderson
In case it was not obvious above: running apps in 12.10 never appear in the
launcher bar.
Running or minimized. (Not referring to the workspace boxes at the lower right
of the bar, but to the entire white bar at the bottom, left of the workspace
boxes).
Not present when an app started, and do not
appear at any time, so when one minimizes (say a terminal session) the terminal
session is not visible on the desktop anywhere with Gnome Classic.

Even worse, when cycling back to window #1, it is not outlined, and the
popup dissapears. It is very confusing. It sort of makes sense in that
you are back to an unchanged state, but that is not what Alt-tab does.
Alt-tab will outline window #1 and leave the popup until the Alt key is
released, so I expected Alt-` to do the same.

[Bug 905686] Re: nautilus assert failure: nautilus: ../../src/xcb_io.c:528: _XAllocID: Assertion `ret != inval_id' failed.

2012-04-26 Thread Greg Anderson
I observed this bug under the following simple configuration:

0. Clean install of 12.04 LTS, with neither 'download packages' nor 'third
party software' checkboxes checked.
1. Log into unity; open a terminal and `sudo apt-get install
gnome-session-fallback`
2. Log out of unity and log into gnome classic.
3. Open a terminal. Wait. Observe crash.

No proprietary drivers are in use on this system.

[Bug 850649] Re: gnome-terminal extremely slow and display buggy

2011-11-09 Thread John Samuel Anderson
I can confirm the problem on 11.10 32-bit. I'm running gnome-session-
fallback, without the overlay scrollbars.

Hardware: Acer Aspire laptop, Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T3200 @ 2.00 GHz.
Display: Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset x86/MMX/SSE2.

I usually have 3 or 4 tabs open, with unlimited scrolling enabled. It
gets slower over time, but it's still about 2 seconds to start the very
first tab.
