[Bug 1827029] [NEW] Extended characters in OSK don't get entered
Public bug reported: [Impact] This bug affects any of the "extended characters" clicked on from the long-press popup in the Screen Keyboard. [Test Case] 1. Open GNOME Settings > Universal Access 2. Enable the Screen Keyboard. (Optionally, turn on Always Show Universal Access Menu to make turning the Screen Keyboard on and off easier.) 3. Open Text Editor 4. Click the u button on the Screen Keyboard 5. Long-press the u button on the Screen Keyboard for a few seconds. 6. On the popup, click the ü character. What Happens In Step 4, u is entered in the Text Editor document. Nothing is entered in Step 5. [Regression Potential] The code to be backported only affects OSK. Check that normal OSK keys (e.g. a,b,c,...) normally works. ** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Andrea Azzarone (azzar1) Status: Fix Released ** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Marco Trevisan (Treviño) (3v1n0) Status: In Progress ** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu Cosmic) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Marco Trevisan (Treviño) (3v1n0) Status: In Progress ** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu Disco) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Andrea Azzarone (azzar1) Status: Fix Released ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Andrea Azzarone (azzar1) ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Fix Released ** Also affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu Disco) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu Cosmic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu Disco) Status: New => Fix Released ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu Disco) Assignee: (unassigned) => Andrea Azzarone (azzar1) ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu Cosmic) Assignee: (unassigned) => Marco Trevisan (Treviño) (3v1n0) ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu Bionic) Assignee: (unassigned) => Marco Trevisan (Treviño) (3v1n0) ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu Bionic) Status: New => In Progress ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu Cosmic) Status: New => In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1827029 Title: Extended characters in OSK don't get entered To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1827029/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1760399] Re: New On-screen keyboard does not appear automatically when selecting some text fields
** Description changed: [Impact] on-screen keyboard cannot be reliably opened when running under xorg. [Test Case] 1. Login into an xorg session - 1. Open Firefox + 1. Open an application with text-entries (e.g. Firefox) 2. Try to enter text in a text entry using the new OSK Expected results: The on-screen keyboard should appear. [Regression Potential] The proposed fix requires a change in the way gnome-settings-daemon decides to enable or disable ibus. Please make sure that ibus correctly works when using a keyboard layout that requires it (e.g. chinese). [Original Report] I have always used an on-screen keyboard as a virtual keyboard for entering text in a different layout than my physical keyboard. This time I cannot, since I cannot manually trigger the new OSK. Steps: 1. Open Firefox 2. Try to enter text in a different layout using the new OSK 3. You cannot make the OSK appear When enabled, the new OSK appears automatically in Activities, but I cannot trigger it outside GNOME apps. You have to enable the new OSK first from Universal Access in Settings. I consider this a regression from 16.04 LTS, where On-board is easily triggered. Workaround: sudo apt install onboard ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: gnome-shell 3.28.0-0ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-13.14-generic 4.15.10 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-13-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu2 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sun Apr 1 11:31:16 2018 DisplayManager: gdm3 InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-10-02 (180 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 17.10 "Artful Aardvark" - Beta amd64 (20170930) SourcePackage: gnome-shell UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to bionic on 2018-03-27 (4 days ago) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1760399 Title: New On-screen keyboard does not appear automatically when selecting some text fields To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/1760399/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1805441] [NEW] SRU 3.30.2 to Cosmic
Public bug reported: [Description] Update cosmic from 3.30.1 to 3.30.2. We cannot just backport 3.30.2 from Disco because we need to drop Debian-s-adduser-doesn-t-allow-uppercase-letters-by-defau.patch as we already got a diffrent patch in cosmic. We should also include debian/patches/region-Autodisconnect-IBusBus- connected-handler.patch. This patch has been cherry picked from the gnome-3-30 upstream patch and contains a fix for a segmentation fault (LP: #1804424). NEWS. The upstream changes are covered by https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME: === Version 3.30.2 === - Translation updates Display: - Hide unsupported resolutions again - Improve snapping - Stop night light dialog being destroyed twice Online Accounts: - Track the lifecycle of CcGoaPanel across async calls Region: - Fix double-free when closing the input chooser dialog Wi-Fi: - Disable periodic scan only when Wi-Fi is disabled [Test Case] Open gnome-control-center and make sure that the panels in the above list are working properly. Testing all possible scenarios would be problematic but I suggest focusing on: 1. Open the wifi panel and make sure that you can enable/disable the wifi properly 2. On a multi-head setup open the display panel and make sure that you can re-arrange the layout of your displays. Please follow also the test case for LP: #1804424 that should cover the fixes included in debian/patches/region-Autodisconnect-IBusBus- connected-handler.patch [Regression Potential] The changes to the Online Accounts panel, Regions panels and Night Light dialog are pretty safe and there should be no possible regression. [Bug 1730211] Re: Unable to type capital letters using onscreen keyboard
** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => In Progress ** Description changed: + [Impact] Unable to type capital letters using onscreen keyboard: + [Test Case] 1. Launch a program where you can type text (gedit for example). 2. Activate on screen keyboard (by touching the screen, foe example). 3. Notice all the keys on the on screen keyboard display lowercase letters. 4. Begin typing. Lowercase characters are typed into the text area. 5. Tap on the Shift (up arrow at left side of on screen keyboard) key of the on screen keyboard. 6. Notice all the keys on the on screen keyboard now display capital letters. 7. Begin typing. 8. A lowercase character will be typed into the text area. This is not expected behavior. Instead, a capital letter should have been typed. (All the keys on the on screen keyboard revert to lower case. This is expected, since the on screen shift key would need to be pressed again in order to attempt to type another capital character). + [Regression Potential] + Please make sure that osk correctly revert to lower case.
