[Bug 1827029] [NEW] Extended characters in OSK don't get entered

2019-04-30 Thread Andrea Azzarone
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
This bug affects any of the "extended characters" clicked on from the
long-press popup in the Screen Keyboard.

[Test Case]
1. Open GNOME Settings > Universal Access
2. Enable the Screen Keyboard. (Optionally, turn on Always Show Universal
Access Menu to make turning the Screen Keyboard on and off easier.)
3. Open Text Editor
4. Click the u button on the Screen Keyboard
5. Long-press the u button on the Screen Keyboard for a few seconds.
6. On the popup, click the ü character.

What Happens
In Step 4, u is entered in the Text Editor document.
Nothing is entered in Step 5.

[Regression Potential]
The code to be backported only affects OSK. Check that normal OSK keys (e.g.
a,b,c,...) normally works.

The fix has been merged upstream. I think it's worth SRUing it to disco
because it's one of the most reported errors in errors.ubuntu.com.

[Bug 1822753] Re: /usr/bin/gedit:11:gedit_metadata_manager_set:gedit_document_set_metadata:save_metadata:gedit_document_dispose:g_object_unref

2019-04-16 Thread Andrea Azzarone
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ Gedit crashes when it is closed while a file is being loaded or just after
the file has been loaded.
+
+ The bug is a regression in Disco: in Cosmic Gedit is built using
+ autotools while in Disco we use meson. During the port to meson upstream
+ forgot to port a build option (in particular 'enable-gvfs-metadata',
+ enabled by default). Without this option a broken - and untested - code
+ path is activated.
+
+ To fix thisd bug we should reintroduce the 'enable-gvfs-metadata'
+ option.
+
+ [Test case]
+ 1. Create a big text file
+ 2. Open gedit
+ 3. Close the window while the file is still being loaded
+
+ Also check there are no more reports in e.u.c.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ The change affects the way gedit stores the file metadata. Try for example
+ 1. open a file
+ 2. focus a random line
+ 3. close the file
+ 4. re-open the file
+ 5. make sure the random line that you focused in point 2. is focused
+

The Ubuntu Error Tracker has been receiving reports about a problem regarding
gedit. This problem was most recently seen with package version 3.32.0-1, the

The first issues it that gedit should use gvfs to store file metadata.
Since the port of gedit to meson this feature has been lost. I've

[Bug 1810382] Re: Gnome software error posting a review for snap app

2019-02-12 Thread Andrea Azzarone
It looks like that since https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
software/commit/e54b31cc85ddef6f9579cb85bbdf53dbb9d9091d snaps are no
longer marked AS_APP_QUIRK_NOT_REVIEWABLE. This because ODRS supports
Snap Reviews. Unfortunately, ODRS plugin is disabled for you (and maybe
for all cosmic users?) while ubuntu-reviews plugin is still
installed/enabled hence the issue. @robert-ancell what's the proper way
to fix this? Maybe we should enable ODRS in cosmic and disable ubuntu-
reviews?

[Bug 1769383] Re: Ubuntu dock/launcher is shown on the lock screen

2019-01-24 Thread Andrea Azzarone
@blackwicked, you're still affected by the issue because you manually
installed the extension "Dash to dock". Please try to remove it (or
manually patch it), restart your shell (alt+f2 and then 'r') an.d let me
know if you can still reproduce the issue

Did you restart your system? Also the keyboard layout bug is a different
issue.

[Bug 1760399] Re: New On-screen keyboard does not appear automatically when selecting some text fields

2019-01-23 Thread Andrea Azzarone
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
on-screen keyboard cannot be reliably opened when running under xorg.

  [Test Case]
  1. Login into an xorg session
- 1. Open Firefox
+ 1. Open an application with text-entries (e.g. Firefox)
  2. Try to enter text in a text entry using the new OSK

  Expected results:
  The on-screen keyboard should appear.

  [Regression Potential]
The proposed fix requires a change in the way gnome-settings-daemon decides
to enable or disable ibus. Please make sure that ibus correctly works when
using a keyboard layout that requires it (e.g. chinese).

  [Original Report]
I have always used an on-screen keyboard as a virtual keyboard for entering
text in a different layout than my physical keyboard. This time I cannot, since
I cannot manually trigger the new OSK.

  Steps:

  1. Open Firefox
  2. Try to enter text in a different layout using the new OSK
  3. You cannot make the OSK appear

When enabled, the new OSK appears automatically in Activities, but I
cannot trigger it outside GNOME apps. You have to enable the new OSK
first from Universal Access in Settings.

I consider this a regression from 16.04 LTS, where On-board is easily
  triggered.

  Workaround:

  sudo apt install onboard

  ProblemType: Bug
  DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04
  Package: gnome-shell 3.28.0-0ubuntu2
  ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-13.14-generic 4.15.10

[Bug 1769383] Re: Ubuntu dock/launcher is shown on the lock screen

2019-01-15 Thread Andrea Azzarone
I proposed a fix upstream here: https://github.com/micheleg/dash-to-
dock/pull/868

Hopefully, this will be uploaded in Disco in the next few days and
should be SRUed both in Cosmic and Bionic in the next few weeks. Thanks!

[Bug 1769383] Re: Ubuntu dock/launcher is shown on the lock screen

2018-11-30 Thread Andrea Azzarone
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ When entering the lock-screen mode, gnome-shell disables all the extensions.
It can happen that under certain conditions ubuntu-dock re-enables itself,
causing the ubuntu-dock to appear in the lock-screen, exposing sensitive
information. One possible way to reproduce this is to enable dash-to-dock and
ubuntu-dock at the same time.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ 1. Make sure ubuntu-dock is enabled
+ 2. Enable dash-to-dock too
+ 3. Lock the screen
+ 4. Make sure the dock does not appear on the lock screen
+ 5. Make sure there is no warning is the journal
+
+ [Possible Regressions]
+ Even if it's something we don't really support please make sure that you can
use dash-to-dock without uninstalling ubuntu-dock.
+
+ [Original Bug]
+
After an update from ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04 the dock is aviable on the
lockscreen after user login.
I did not configure this knowingly. Also i can start every application which
is available on the dock.
Settings, virtual box, visualstudio code and so on.

After the update to 18.04 i just configure the screen frequency to 144Hz
and the night mode on. And attach the dock on bottom.

I later undid these customizations back to configuration before, but the
dock is stil aviable on lockscreen.

[Bug 1805441] [NEW] SRU 3.30.2 to Cosmic

2018-11-27 Thread Andrea Azzarone
Public bug reported:

[Description]
Update cosmic from 3.30.1 to 3.30.2. We cannot just backport 3.30.2 from Disco
because we need to drop
Debian-s-adduser-doesn-t-allow-uppercase-letters-by-defau.patch as we already
got a diffrent patch in cosmic.

We should also include debian/patches/region-Autodisconnect-IBusBus-
connected-handler.patch. This patch has been cherry picked from the
gnome-3-30 upstream patch and contains a fix for a segmentation fault
(LP: #1804424).

NEWS. The upstream changes are covered by
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME:

 ===
 Version 3.30.2
 ===

 - Translation updates

 Display:
 - Hide unsupported resolutions again
 - Improve snapping
 - Stop night light dialog being destroyed twice

 Online Accounts:
 - Track the lifecycle of CcGoaPanel across async calls

 Region:
 - Fix double-free when closing the input chooser dialog

 Wi-Fi:
 - Disable periodic scan only when Wi-Fi is disabled

[Test Case]
Open gnome-control-center and make sure that the panels in the above list are
working properly. Testing all possible scenarios would be problematic but I
suggest focusing on:
1. Open the wifi panel and make sure that you can enable/disable the wifi
properly
2. On a multi-head setup open the display panel and make sure that you can
re-arrange the layout of your displays.

Please follow also the test case for LP: #1804424 that should cover the
fixes included in debian/patches/region-Autodisconnect-IBusBus-
connected-handler.patch

[Regression Potential]
The changes to the Online Accounts panel, Regions panels and Night Light dialog
are pretty safe and there should be no possible regression. Possible
regressions:
- wifi panel: you could not be able to enable/disable the wifi
- display panel: you could not be able to re-arrange the monitor layouts on a
multi-monitor setup.

 Importance: Low

Open gnome-control-center and make sure that the panels in the above list are
working properly. Testing all possible scenarios would be problematic but I
suggest focusing on:
  1. Open the wifi panel and make sure that you can enable/disable the wifi
properly
  2. On a multi-head setup open the display panel and make sure that you can
re-arrange the layout of your displays.

Please follow also the test case for LP: #1804424 that should cover the
  fixes for included in debian/patches/region-Autodisconnect-IBusBus-
  connected-handler.patch

-
  [Regression Potential]
The changes to the Online Accounts panel, Regions panels and Night Light
dialog are pretty safe and there should be no possible regression. Possible
regressions:
  - wifi panel: you could not be able to enable/disable the wifi
  - display panel: you could not be able to re-arrange the monitor layouts on a
multi-monitor setup.

[Bug 1804448] [NEW] SRU Mutter 3.30.2-1 to cosmic

2018-11-21 Thread Andrea Azzarone
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
As per
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/commit/bcd6103c44ff74ebffd1737b8e0f3a952b83bd54
the new stable version fixes two crashes (one when `gnome-shell --replace` is
used and the other one is likely LP: #1801110), a memory leak and a couple of
issue with input methods. In particular the fix for the crash on `gnome-shell
--replace` will make gnome-shell development fun again.

[Test case]
Covered by https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME

[Potential Regressions]
Please make sure that monitor hot-plug properly works in an X session.

[Bug 1730211] Re: Unable to type capital letters using onscreen keyboard

2018-10-30 Thread Andrea Azzarone
** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => In Progress

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
Unable to type capital letters using onscreen keyboard:

+ [Test Case]
  1. Launch a program where you can type text (gedit for example).
  2. Activate on screen keyboard (by touching the screen, foe example).
  3. Notice all the keys on the on screen keyboard display lowercase letters.

  4. Begin typing. Lowercase characters are typed into the text area.

  5. Tap on the Shift (up arrow at left side of on screen keyboard) key of the
on screen keyboard.
  6. Notice all the keys on the on screen keyboard now display capital letters.
  7. Begin typing.
  8. A lowercase character will be typed into the text area.

  This is not expected behavior.
Instead, a capital letter should have been typed.

(All the keys on the on screen keyboard revert to lower case. This is
expected, since the on screen shift key would need to be pressed again
in order to attempt to type another capital character).

+ [Regression Potential]
+ Please make sure that osk correctly revert to lower case. Also make sure
+ the physical keyboard correctly works after using the osk.
