[Bug 491489] Re: Duplicate Entry for Samba Mounts in Places

2009-12-21 Thread BassKozz
Something interesting happened today,
I booted my Desktop machine while my nas box (Unicorn-NAS) was off...
I opened up nautilus and Unicorn-NAS was listed as an option, when I clicked on
it I got the same error message as before:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y105/basskozz/Ubuntu/Screenshot-UntitledWindow.png
So I booted up my nas box (Unicorn-NAS) and issued sudo mount -a from
terminal on my desktop once the nas box was up, and now in Nautilus there is
still only 1 listing for Unicorn-NAS in Nautilus, and it WORKS!!!
*odd* ?

[Bug 491489] [NEW] Duplicate Entry for Samba Mounts in Places

2009-12-02 Thread BassKozz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I just upgraded from Jaunty to Karmic, and now in my Places it has one of my
Shares listed twice.
My share is setup via /etc/fstab like so:
//192.168.1.103/RAID-storage /media/Unicorn-NAS   smbfs
auto,credentials=/root/.credentials_Unicorn-NAS,uid=1000,umask=000,user,exec
0 0

Now Unicorn-NAS is listed twice:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y105/basskozz/Ubuntu/places-screenshot.png

When I click on one of the shares (Unicorn-NAS), I get the following:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y105/basskozz/Ubuntu/Screenshot-UntitledWindow.png

But when I click on the other it opens up the share (as it should).
So why now (after upgrading to Karmic) do I have a duplicate tab for
Unicorn-NAS?

[Bug 275308] Re: Dual Monitors won't SLEEP in TwinView mode

2009-12-02 Thread BassKozz
I don't believe the issue is the Nvidia driver...
Back on #14 guitara said it was working with:
nvidia-glx-185 185.18.36-0ubu NVIDIA binary Xorg driver

I just checked and that's the same driver I am using now with Karmic:
dpkg -l nvidia-glx-185
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Inst/Cfg-files/Unpacked/Failed-cfg/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend
|/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
||/ Name   VersionDescription
+++-==-==-
ii nvidia-glx-185 185.18.36-0ubu NVIDIA binary Xorg driver

So something changed in 2.6.31-14-generic kernel that triggered this problem to
reappear, as you'll see from #16.

NVidia Driver: 180.44

I don't want to use the beta version of Karmin on my production system. So
I'll report back in 24 days.

[Bug 275308] Re: Dual Monitors won't SLEEP in TwinView mode

2009-09-23 Thread BassKozz
Yeah, I upgraded to Jaunty 9.04, and it still remains.
I have a feeling it has something to do with the fact that I installed
xscreensaver a while back. I have since removed xscreensaver, but the problem
remains.

The work-around I am currently using is I created two small bash scripts:
#!/bin/sh
# dpms-off.sh
vbetool dpms off

#!/bin/sh
###
# dpms-on.sh
vbetool dpms on

And then I setup desktop shortcuts for each script and then keyboard shortcuts
for each script:
Ctrl+Alt+0
Ctrl+Alt+1
Respectively. And now when I want to manually put my monitors in sleep I use
Ctrl+Alt+0 and to wake them up when I return I use Ctrl+Alt+1

[Bug 275308] Re: Dual Monitors won't SLEEP in TwinView mode

2009-05-04 Thread BassKozz
After some googling I found this page:
http://www.shallowsky.com/linux/x-screen-blanking.html
According to this page vbetool seems to be the solution.

Quick description of vbetool: vbetool uses lrmi in order to run code from the
video BIOS. Currently, it is able to alter DPMS states, save/restore video card
state, and attempt to initialize the video card from scratch. It exists
primarily in order to increase the chances of successfully recovering video
state after an ACPI S3 suspend.
- http://freshmeat.net/projects/vbetool/

So I tried what it said and used: vbetool dpms off
And it Worked :-D !!!
Wait a minute not so fast...
I can't break out of it :-(
The monitors are stuck in standby mode... I tried moving the mouse, slamming my
keyboard against my head, ctrl+alt+del... nothing seems to break it out of
standby mode. It seems that the GPU's BIOS is stuck in Standby Mode... I had
to manually press the reset button on the box to get it to restart.

Hmm, off to do some more research.
Any idea's out there?

I've been trying to reproduce this as well, and I've come to the conclusion

So this bug can probably be closed or added as a dupe to Chris's bug #319063

Just upgraded to Intrepid Ibex (8.10) and the issue remains

I was hoping this upgrade would fix this, guess not :(

Thanks Ted,

Just so I am clear, this issue is resolved as of Ubuntu 8.10, which will
be released next month (October) ?

[Bug 224845] Re: With dual monitors (TwinView), maximized windows start up in wrong screen

2008-09-27 Thread BassKozz
What does fixed upstream mean?

I am having a similar problem (see:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=831460), but my problem happens
when I try and open launchers from the desktop on a dual-monitor
display. For some reason the applications (launched from the launchers)
always load on the primary (LEFT) monitor, even if I've clicked a
launcher on the desktop or in a panel on the secondary (RIGHT) monitor.
Is this the same issue?

Also I forgot to mention, when I am watching a video (VLC) on my
secondary (RIGHT) monitor, and I make it full screen, it moves the
screen to the primary (LEFT) monitor. This also happens with Firefox,
if I am watching a video (i.e. YouTube) and I maximize the video to
fullscreen it moves the video to the primary (LEFT) monitor, even if
Firefox is in the seconary (RIGHT) monitor.
