Re: [Bug 1950324] Re: after upgrade today I cannot copy paste file from one folder to another
Daniel: Thank you for the email; thank you for taking an interest in my bug and helping me. I may need to edit my original description based on the following (if editing is allowed). I believe my problem is different than 1948008 because I am able to copy from the Desktop and then paste back to the Desktop. I am not able to copy a file from the Desktop to another folder (e.g., cannot copy to Documents, Downloads, Pictures, USB-Thumb-drive, etc.); Paste is greyed out. Likewise I am unable to copy from any other folder and paste to the Desktop. If I open the desktop as a folder (Show Desktop in Files) then I can copy a file from the desktop folder to another folder. Likewise I can copy a file from another folder to the desktop folder. Note: I can copy/paste files between other folders (e.g. copy a file from Documents to Downloads and vice-versa); my bug only affects the Desktop. Note: I recently installed gnome-tweaks; I then changed the Workspaces from "Dynamic Workspaces" to "Static Workspaces"; number of Workspaces: 4. Today I changed it back to Dynamic (default). It did not correct bug. I may have changed something else in gnome-tweaks. On 11/10/21 8:06 PM, Daniel van Vugt wrote: > Are you copying/pasting to or from the desktop? [Bug 1767654] Re: [Intel Braswell] Cursor gets stuck on left side of the screen
@tonypanduru I'd like to share a slightly improved workaround on this for those still dealing with the issue. The core problem seems to be that the mouse cursor can go into a negative X position by one pixel when moved to the far left of the screen. With either the now obsolete intel proprietary driver or the current intel modesetting driver, this causes issues (exact symptoms are different for each, but seem to be from the same root cause). My previous workaround got by this by scaling the entire desktop to 99.99% of its former size. This prevented the cursor from getting to the -1 X position, but came at a cost of lost performance and some screen tearing in videos and games. This was due to a bilinear filter being applied by xrandr to the whole desktop to accommodate the slight re- size. The following command avoids this issue and instead merely shifts the entire desktop right one pixel. It still works around the issue, but seems to avoid the overhead of resizing the whole desktop (which preserves display integrity and performance). xrandr --output HDMI-3 --transform 1,0,-1,0,1,0,0,0,1 It would be nice to get a root cause fix for this, but this workaround seems to do the trick with very little downside. As before, replace the "HDMI-3" with the name of your active display (found by running xrandr with no options) and place the command in your ~/.xprofile (or make a startup app entry in your desktop manager). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767654 Title: [Intel Braswell] Cursor gets stuck on left side of the screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/1767654/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

gdb output attached. When overtyping the search field in nautilus within gdb, it didn't crash in the same way: the nautilus window hung (whereas without gdb nautilus crashed). So I did -C in gdb as instructed. But then I got [Wait / Force Quit] over the nautilus window and gdb had become unresponsive, with the nautilus process as a defunct child. So, I killed gdb, ran it again, and this time, once I had got nautilus in its hung state, I completed the gdb output without using -C. PS. [Bug 1887315] [NEW] Nautilus crashes while over-typing search term on remote smb file system
Public bug reported: ==Impact== nautilus crashes while typing the term to search a remote directory within an NT file system over the smb protocol. The problem may affect other remote file systems or protocols, but I have only tested these. Repeatable. ==How to repeat== 1. Open Nautilus 2. In the sidebar, click Other Locations 3. Type smb://example/share into the 'Connect to server' field or select an existing share URI 4. Click Connect 5. Optionally, when the contents of the share appears, select any depth of sub-directories. 6. Click the search icon and type a search string 7. Once the search results have returned, without closing the search box, select the previous search term and over-type another search term. Nautilus crashes. Typically, prior to the window disappearing the graphics freezes within the search field showing both the previous and the current search terms on top of each other. Often it is necessary to kill the nautilus process and/or reboot the smb daemon on the remote machine before being able to use the smb share again. Before typing a second search term, if instead of over-typing, you delete the selection either i) with the key; or ii) clicking the (x) to clear the field; or iii) clicking the search icon twice to remove and reinstate the search field; it is possible to search for a second term without crashing. It is possible that the crash depends on how fast the search term is typed, because nautilus starts searching as you type. I have tried to paste a search term over an existing term, which usually seems to work without crashing. On the other hand, I have had nautilus crash when typing a search term after having explicitly cleared the search field, but before nautilus has displayed the full contents of the directory again (about 150 files). I have not had nautilus crash when over-typing the search field for a local file system, whether ntfs or ext3. ==Related bugs== Bug #1795028 seems to be identical, and claims to have been fixed in package nautilus - 1:3.26.4-0~ubuntu18.04.2 but it does not appear to be fixed in 3.36.3 under Ubuntu 20.04. [Bug 1767654] Re: [Intel Braswell] Cursor gets stuck on left side of the screen
I can confirm that the problem is present with both the intel and the modesetting driver on Braswell systems. The exact symptoms differ for each, but in both cases it is triggered when the mouse touches the left limit of the screen. With modesetting, it seems to "stick" until you move the mouse away from the left side. With intel, touching the left side starts a flickering that persists even after you move the mouse away. Mainly, just the mouse cursor flickers, but the whole screen will flicker when doing graphics intensive tasks like fullscreen video or gaming. Sometimes, the mouse flicker can be so bad it becomes nearly invisible. I have made full report on the bug report thread opened by Salvatore. The good news is I found a workaround, you can use xrandr to scale the display to 0.x0. and this prevents the issues in both intel and modesetting. This can be done in your .xprofile in your home directory to take effect at login. It does come with a slight performance penalty, but it's preferable to the glitching that happens otherwise (at least until someone fixes the regression). xrandr --output HDMI-3 --mode 1920x1080 --scale 0.x0. On the right there are two or more dots, one for each page of the menu. But the dots are behind the dock on the right, and cannot be seen (mostly) and cannot be clicked. Picture attached. One dot can be faintly seen between the Mail and Help icons. Another dot is behind the help icon. [Bug 1870847] Re: App grid has too many page dots on right
Fixed! gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock/focal,focal,now 67ubuntu20.04.5 all [installed, automatic] When I click the "Show Applications" button in the lower left, it brings up a matrix of application icons, which takes a page and a half. There are now correctly two dots on the right to match the two pages, and clicking on the dots works properly. I will open a new bug report - if the dock is on the right, the dots are hidden behind the dock. [Bug 1774798] [NEW] ls quoting style change requires Emacs tramp pkg update
Public bug reported: Emacs 26 provides the following bug fix to Emacs 25: https://github.com/emacs-mirror/emacs/commit/e4adb6 which fixes the dired/tramp/ls interaction bug introduced by the "new" quoting style in ls: https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-coreutils/2016-03/msg00032.html Because 18.04 LTS provides Emacs25 without this fix, BUT provides ls with the new quoting-style default, Emacs dired-mode breaks when used over tramp, if filenames and directories contain spaces. The easy bug fix above should be retroactively applied to the version of Emacs/tramp that is being provided. Alternatively, Emacs 26 could be provided, or Tramp updated to 2.3.2 provided within Emacs25. Specifically, remote directories listed using dired over tramp show files and directories (those with spaces in the names) that cannot be acted upon by dired commands but instead complain that the listing is out of date and needs updating, even if updated. The two line fix cited above resolves the problem in my installation. [Bug 1299604] Re: evolution keeps asking for password
It's been more than 3 years that this bug started, and it is still not fixed!!! I had this problem in Ubuntu from 15.04 all the way to 17.04, and now in SolydK where it is even worse because none of the 10 possible ways to get gnome-keyring-deamon to start on login to work!!! I have tried every workaround offered, and although one or the other works here or there, it is completely inconsistant as to what will and will not work at any given time, and once you found a "Solution" you update the OS or something, and it fails again, then you can try every freakin' option all over again!! Its easier to break into the World Bank and crack the safe! If no one is capable of fixing the problem, then why not just change the way it works (doesn't work) all together: Dump the freaking gnome keyring dependancy completely, and make evolution remember passwords on it's own without it! It would have many advantages. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1299604 Title: evolution keeps asking for password To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/1299604/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1626893] Re: Spell check does not change misspelled words
May I add: I misspelled a few words, and as described above, clicking on the proper spelling did not change them, so I corrected them manually and that worked for all but one word: Imbecile. No matter what I did the red underline kept reappearing, even after I deleted it and typed it anew! The spell checking in Evolution has always been shaky like that: Highlighting correctly spelled words, whole rows of words, and the highlight remaining after correction. This problem is in addition to a few others, and the whole spell check system needs a closer look at. If This helps: I use both English and German, and have corrections for both no matter which language I am using at the time. Other programs have the document's language set somewhere and only spell check that language. It is required to switch languages in order to also switch the spell check to that language. I think having spell checkers in more than one language running at the same time may be a part of the problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1626893 Title: Spell check does not change misspelled words To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/1626893/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1299604] Re: evolution keeps asking for password
Observations that may be of help (maybe not): I too have this problem, or some version thereof (It seams to effect everyone differently). Evolution has never asked me for a password just to start up. It always launches fine. I have the auto retrieve setting at 10 minutes for all accounts. I have several accounts from several providers. I also have 7 accounts for my business, with addresses to my own website something@mydomain. Each account has a different password and each password has at least one special character: !@#$... At any given time/day (completely at random) I too get one or more "can not authenticate" prompts asking for the password to one or more email accounts. They all are affected, and which one is affected at any given time is also completely random If It prompts me for a GMail account password (3 accounts) It only asks for the one, and repeats every ten minutes even when I type in the password, it does not accept it. For my business accounts however, It sometimes asks for the passwords of all of them (7 accounts), but not always. closing and restarting evolution works sometimes, sometimes "Kill All" is necessary, and sometimes I have to reboot the PC. To me it looks like this behavior just may be triggered by different events. I have had similar messages (a few each year) with Thunderbird too, but mainly with Gmail (server overload???) once or twice with Hotmail. Never with my own domain. [Bug 269441] Re: Trash always full
Happens for me in Ubuntu 14.04 and still in 15.10. Actually I tried upgrading just to get rid of this issue but was disappointed. The trash bin is full in the bottom left corner of the left dock. Click to open and there's nothing inside. I wonder if this is a problem after erasing from removable storage media e.g. USB disk. [Bug 1517330] [NEW] Evolution 3.16.5 does not wrap text in message body
Public bug reported: In received emails, the text does not wrap to the window. When opened in a new window it does not either. There are no horizontal scroll bars. There is no setting anywhere for it, but then again who needs a setting for something that should be native behavior. When composing a message, I can set it to wrap the text from the format menu (It should be the default), and it works for the message I am writing, but not on the original message that I am replying to below it. I'm running both Unity and Cinnamon in 14.04 with lightdm. That way unity-greeter takes over on logout from both. [Bug 1314556] Re: Unable to mount Android MTP device

[Bug 1275966] [NEW] Gnome Flashback (Metacity and Compiz) experience lags in displaying selected wallpaper
Public bug reported: Using an alpah build of Trusty Gnome, I experience a time lag when i use the Flashback option for Gnome. Gnome (standard) will almost immediately display the wallpaper. Gnome Classic will display the selected wallpaper after about a one second delay. Gnome Flashback (Metacity) will display the panels (I have three, top, left side and bottom) after about one secoind, but it may take more than two minutes for the selected wallpaper to be displayed. During this time, any attempt to use the 'desktop' results is severe delays in redrawing the screen. i.e. Closing a window will display nested boxes correlating to the reducing window. Once the wallpaper is displayed, desktop reaction returns to normal. Gnome Flashback (Compiz) will just display a gray-black screen, which refuses to respond to any input except the 3-finger-salute (CTL-ALT- DEL). Using a liove CD, I was able to extract the Xorg.log so I may be able to include it. Reviewing the attached Xorg logs, not the lengthy delays in setting up the screen type for 'X'. The Compiz log was terminated after 224 seconds (more than 3-1/2 minutes) with a gray-black screen. --- I do not know if this is in any way related to another bug filed today as a result of an apport lof (#1275953) by me. ** Affects: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: gnome-02-03-14 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1275966/+attachment/3968195/+files/gnome-02-03-14 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1275966 Title: Gnome Flashback (Metacity and Compiz) experience lags in displaying selected wallpaper To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1275966/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 948667] Re: gnome-panel crashed with SIGSEGV in gtk_widget_pop_verify_invariants()
Alistair Buxton: My bug was just marked duplicate of this one, but doesn't match with the description posted on the upstream bug. So, is my bug really a duplicate? If I understand it correctly, automatic duplicate bug marking is done based not on the bug description, but on the crash backtrace results (i. e., the program internals leading to crash). The same code bug may be triggered by different conditions. Your bug #1076830 doesn't contain a coredump retrace, and therefore is not very informative. If you can reproduce it -- report it properly, with a coredump attached. (If apport doesn't allow you to report the crash to Launchpad, please look at the bug 994921). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/948667 Title: gnome-panel crashed with SIGSEGV in gtk_widget_pop_verify_invariants() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-panel/+bug/948667/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1076830] Re: panel crashes if you add, remove, then add the same applet
Your current doesn't contain a coredump retrace, and therefore is not very informative. If you can reproduce the crash -- report it properly, with a coredump attached. (If apport doesn't allow you to report the crash to Launchpad, please look at the bug #994921). After reporting the current bug properly, you can make this bug as a duplicate of the new one. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1076830 Title: panel crashes if you add, remove, then add the same applet To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-panel/+bug/1076830/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
