killing all empathy  telepathy processes then lauching empathy-auth-client by 
hand gives this error at login :
(empathy-auth-client:3995): empathy-CRITICAL **: 
empathy_sasl_auth_google_async: assertion `!tp_str_empty (access_token)' failed

Ok I've got it. In my case, I was using a two-step auth account.
The password configured in empathy was an application-specific password, which 
method seems not supported with OAUTH2.
After removing the empathy account and recreating it, I've got the 
login/password that clearly specify to not enter the application-specific 
password but the account password, then the 2nd step password.
Then it worked.

same here : can only see 18 contacts on a 1200px high monitor since all
their avatar are visible and view not compact...

RT José: I had set these UI options with dconf (org.gnome.Empathy.ui) in Ubuntu 
12.04, and it used to work :
show-avatars = false
show-groups = true
compact-contact-list = true

Since my upgrade to 12.10, these config options are not respected by
empathy

same here on a three weeks old install of oneiric 32 bits. It did crash
while I was switching (C+AN) between two vim inside a screen.

gnome-terminal[17072]: segfault at 20 ip b6f1baca sp bfed3080 error 4 in
libgobject-2.0.so.0.3000.0[b6f0a000+4d000]
