[Bug 380991] Re: Clock applet causes Warning and Critical, Panel hangs

2009-06-02 Thread CSkau
I've now been running for a while without the Clock applet, but have
experienced further hangs.
I managed to provoke a hang by starting both Gimp and the PDF document viewer.
(I'll try narrowing it even further down)

The backtrace from the hang is attached.

[Bug 380991] [NEW] Clock applet causes Warning and Critical, Panel hangs

2009-05-27 Thread CSkau
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Running Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04, gnome-panel 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu7

Note: This bug is possibly related to the multiple other reports of the
clock applet causing the panel to hang, but I haven't been able to find
a report exactly matching mine.

Lately I've been experiencing gnome-panel hanging often and seemingly at random.
There are report of the clock applet causing hangs when clicked on, but this is
not the case here.
I can click the applet just fine, and the hang seem to occur at other times
completely - even when I haven't clicked it at all !

I do however have a slightly out of the ordinary setup as I've only got
a single panel vertically on the left side of the screen. I've got
applets such as window list, menu button, notifier and the clock
running.

I've come to the conclusion that recovering from such a gnome-panel hang is
simply running a "kill" or "gnome-panel --replace".
I did however notice that replacing the panel gives some interesting debug
print outs, which led me to the find that the clock applet gives the following
when adding and removing it:

(gnome-panel:5865): Gdk-WARNING **:
/build/buildd/gtk+2.0-2.16.1/gdk/x11/gdkdrawable-x11.c:878 drawable is not a
pixmap or window

(gnome-panel:5865): libglade-WARNING **: Unexpected element inside .

** (gnome-panel:5865): DEBUG: Adding applet 5.

** (gnome-panel:5865): DEBUG: Removing applet 5.

(gnome-panel:5865): Bonobo-CRITICAL **: bonobo_main_quit: assertion
`bonobo_main_loops != NULL' failed

I've now decided to run gnome-panel without the clock applet, but as the hangs
are seemingly random, I can't guarantee that it is in fact the clock applets
fault. It only seems highly likely to me.
I'll report back if however I should experience further hangs.

** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
