[Bug 2059847] Re: Input lag in native terminal on Nvidia desktops with X11

2024-04-02 Thread Charlie Page
Same issue, I've noticed something very strange. If the below lines are
commented out, the lag takes a few minutes to kick in (vs immediately when not
commented out).
edit /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/61-gdm.rules
comment out the 2 lines:
RUN+="/usr/libexec/gdm-runtime-config set daemon PreferredDisplayServer xorg"
RUN+="/usr/libexec/gdm-runtime-config set daemon WaylandEnable false"
As a side note, Wayland does not well work for me, however,
/etc/gdm3/custom.conf forces x11.
i.e.
echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE
x11

[Bug 1437502] Re: nautilus lacking 'new document' in context menu on GNOME

2018-06-10 Thread Charlie Daly
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1632027 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1632027

The workaround as suggested by Anders Hall is not very satisfactory
because the first thing that you want to do after creating a new
document is change the name. Previously, after creating the document you
were immediately in a text field changing the name. Using the
workaround, you have to select the document and select that you are
changing the name before entering the name. It is pointless extra work.

[Bug 1706476] Re: Mysterious shadow around window when check marking an option box inside of window

2018-01-07 Thread Charlie Luna
Daniel, I know it's been some time since we've commented on this and I
just wanted to come back and comment again about the status of all of
this. This graphical issue is still occurring and like you, it happens
when I resize the window with the cursor (click/hold/drag to desired
size).

I recently started Chromium to narrow down if it's a broad issue (such
as a CPU/GPU issue) or just program issue. Chromium doesn't exhibit this
odd behavior so I'm feeling confident that my theory that Firefox uses
code that doesn't quite agree with Wayland or my hardware could be the
root cause. I'm very confident that it'll be mitigated eventually.

it still seems like i've lost connection when it happens and i've got to
click on select network and then the box disappears and the wifi signal

[Bug 1714783] Re: *beta 1 release* screen scrambling upon startup.

2017-09-16 Thread Charlie Luna
The scrambling issue has repeated itself since my initial bug report. At
the time that it happened, I was only after booting was completed and I
couldn't see or do anything with my laptop until I suspended it with the
power button. On another occasion a few weeks ago, this same issue
occurred and I believe I did a shutdown by holding the power button
until it powered off and restarted with a successful restart at that
point.

And per your request, this is the output of that command.

[Bug 1706476] Re: "julyshakedown" mysterious shadow around window when check marking and option box inside of window.

2017-08-22 Thread Charlie Luna
Fortunately, one of the recent updates has seemingly fixed this issue.
I've tried several things like downloading some files and repeating the
above processes and that weird box hasn't happened yet so looks like
it's been triaged pretty well.

[Bug 1706807] Re: scrambling/pixelation and jutter upon opening thunderbird

2017-08-09 Thread Charlie Luna
I finally managed to capture a very brief screen print of the
pixelation/scrambling of my screen upon opening thunderbird while
firefox is open. if you look at the bottom right hand side of the frame,
you can see a tiny amount of it. it's been worse than that but at least
you can get a sense of what I'm talking about.

I apologize for not having any new pics/videos for this yet. It's been
difficult to capture it happening again since it seems to be pretty
random.

2017-07-28 Thread Charlie Luna
ok, I'm must confess that I didn't download the daily build for just
ubuntu 17.10. that's what i've been testing lately and I downloaded the
ubuntu gnome daily build 17.10 (for today 2017-07-28) which is weird
because i didn't think anything was going to be separately for gnome
except change ubuntu desktop to gnome. oh well. i got the iso i wanted
and everything is back to normal, or as normal as can be for daily build
testing. lol

[Bug 1707280] [NEW] *julyshakedown* gnome blacked out text boxes and washed out icons from using the Awaita-dark option for applications.

2017-07-28 Thread Charlie Luna
Public bug reported:

After installing today's daily build for Ubuntu Gnome 17.10, I chose the
adwaita-dark option for applications and any text box to input text
into, selection boxes and bookmarks are washed out upon mouse-over. So
why the change back to the previous Ubuntu Gnome designs instead of
Ubuntu Desktop?

2017-07-27 Thread Charlie Luna
I opened all of the apps in settings and those are fine. No glitches at
all. The soft shadows those windows have around them are normal and
don't look like black boxes surrounding the windows that I showed you
and they're always there.

I've opened all of my programs/apps and nothing happens with them. They
all seem normal. Just the ones in the video that I've shown seem to be
the only ones causing this glitch.

fails to even open. And I got two crash reports back to back after
installing it. Then I removed the software, reinstalled to no avail, it
still doesn't open.

I attempted a restart upon no avail as well.

[Bug 1706476] [NEW] "julyshakedown" mysterious shadow around window when check marking and option box inside of window.

2017-07-25 Thread Charlie Luna
Public bug reported:

this mysterious shadow occurs when I click inside an empty option box in
a window to download a file from my cloud service. it's the option box
for "do this automatically for files like this for now on." the shadow
is very brief and completely surrounds the window and is the same shape
as the window, square. I've never seen this type of behavior on any
version of Ubuntu so I thought it was a bug of some kind worth
mentioning and it occurs every time I click the box to select/deselect
it.

[Bug 1321922] [NEW] gnome-keyring-daemon failing of sshfs

2014-05-21 Thread Charlie Ott
Public bug reported:

Use whatever local installation you want, e.g. an ubuntu live cd

killall gnome-keyring-daemon
cd ~/.gnome2
mv keyrings keyrings.old
mkdir keyrings keyrings.new
chmod 700 keyrings keyrings.new

sshfs localhost:/home/username/.gnome2/keyrings.new keyrings
gnome-keyring-daemon -s -f

With those commands, you're running gnome-keyring-daemon using sshfs for
keyrings

This causes the gnome-keyring-daemon to hang, while simultaneously creating
thousands of *temp* files in ~/.local/share/keyrings

** Affects: gnome-keyring (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 983291] Re: Screen Rotation options only Counterclockwise Clockwise

2013-07-20 Thread Charlie Calvert
I have the same problem on an Ubuntu Triple EEE PC netbook. By running
xandr using the command shown in the third message of this thread, I was
able to get a resolution of sorts:

xrandr --output LVDS --auto --output VGA1 --auto --same-as LVDS --rotate
normal

However the interface is not working right. For instance, the menu
options on applications have disappeared, and I'm getting mirrored
displays, even though I don't want that option, and there seems to be no
way to fix that problem. In particular, the option to turn off display
mirroring is not available in the Display application, and I have no
idea how to use xrandr other than to paste in the text shown above.

I agree with the others who think that Low is a bad rating for this
problem. I like Linux and I'm experienced with computers, so I will
forage on. However, I know the average user well enough to know that
this problem alone would turn them off to Ubuntu. And since Ubuntu is
supposed to be a good distribution for newbies, it might also turn them
off to Linux.

[Bug 856312] Re: Can't use non-mirrored resolution with two monitors

2013-04-12 Thread Charlie Halford
Thanks for responding to this. Rather than close the issue, can we
either:

1) Track this as a bug with the fglrx drivers upstream or
2) Catch the error setting the virtual resolution and display a friendly error
message like Your video driver does not support extending your screen between
multiple monitors. Please use the vendor supplied settings application.
3) Do a check before enabling the toggle for mirrored screens. This would only
become enabled when a vendor supported dynamic front buffer reallocation

[Bug 1083644] Re: Palimpsest does not support gparted GPT

2013-02-21 Thread Charlie Daly
I have the same hard disk, a 4T My Book from WD and I have the same problem.
The details might be a little off because I am not at work at the moment.

I used gparted to create a GUID Partition Table and created a ~3.8T
partition and a ~100G partition.

Disk Utility correctly identified the partitions, but could not identify
the partition table. It characterised the partition table as unknown.

I could not delete or modify the partitions using disk utility.

My computer is a Dell desktop running 12:10 64 bit.

Should I open a new bug since this one is expired.

[Bug 945678] Re: libgstreamer0.10-0 - cheese does not open and has memory leak.

2013-02-18 Thread Charlie Shaw
same experience using a 11.10 system, Lenovo laptop, in-built camera.

Attached from top shows how cheese INITIALLY takes near 100% of the CPU
(Celeron 900 @ 2.2GHz), then 'not much' whilst near all the free RAM
(system has 1GByte) AND swap space is consumed by cheese.

No other applications running; tested was initiated on a newly booted
system. Skype + VLC + guvcview all 'seem to work fine'.

System becomes un-responsive (due to it thrashing the disk) until a run-
away process killer kills cheese recovers the memory + swap space.

[Bug 1002788] Re: Unable to access file or folder when clicking

2012-05-23 Thread Charlie Murder
I've figured out what triggers the behaviour, it happens whenever we use
the touchscreen.

Best short term solution is to disable the touchscreen. To do this on
Ubuntu 12.04 do the following:

1. To determine the device name look at instructions here
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=160
2. Create a file in your home directory called .xsessionrc
3. Add the following line to the file: xinput set-prop 'Quanta
OpticalTouchScreen' 'Device Enabled' 0
Be aware that 'Quanta OpticalTouchScreen' is specific to my machine. You
will need to enter your device name, acquired by

4. save, close and restart

[Bug 863258] [NEW] Indicators on the top right of the panel are often obscured or out of place on login

2011-09-30 Thread Charlie Halford
Public bug reported:

Release: Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS
gnome-panel version: 1:2.30.2-0ubuntu0.2

When I log into a new user session on my laptop, I expect that the indicators
in gnome-panel on the top right are:
1) displayed clearly and without obstruction and
2) displayed in the same position as when I logged out last

What actually happens is rather random (possibly related to the speed I
login from gdm when my laptop boots). Occasionally, when I log in, the
indicators in the top left are both obscured (either by another
indicator, or an invisible object), and out of position. Re-organising
their position does not fix the fact that they are obscured. Crucially,
logging out then back in again will always fix the problem.

[Bug 858034] Re: AisleRiot Solitaire Klondike mode does not allow redeals

2011-09-26 Thread Charlie Kravetz
Thank you for reporting this issue. Thank you for taking the time to
report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the
information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report
so we are closing it. The game is playing correctly according to the
rules. Please use 3-card deals to have continuous redeals play.

[Bug 852608] [NEW] oneiric color theme has regressed

2011-09-17 Thread Charlie Schluting ☃
Public bug reported:

Hi,

gnome-terminal in oneiric looks normal and happy, until I open a tab.
The tab and window border then turns light gray, instead of the
dark/pretty color scheme everything else has (and gnome-terminal had in
natty, for example). I've confirmed this happens on a completely virgin
install, to rule out the possibility my profile/config.

Screenshot attached.

[Bug 845909] [NEW] Keyboard preference no longer allow setting of compose key

Similar to bug 792636, this affects me the same way. I was happily

[Bug 845915] [NEW] All Settings is confusing

2011-09-09 Thread Charlie Schluting ☃
Public bug reported:

When searching for a gnome setting, I'll generally use the unity dash.
For example, I'll type keyboard and hit enter. This brings me directly
to the keyboard settings. When the setting I'm looking for isn't there,
I see a button labeled All Settings that taunts me into clicking it.

What I expect: context. I was looking for all available keyboard settings.
What happened: I'm back at the list of all config possibilities, and have to
find keyboard again to continue my search within the existing tabs in
keyboard settings.

Suggestion: It should really be more like navigation. Even though I
landed directly at keyboard settings, the top menu (where All Settings
currently is) should illustrate that I'm in a sub-section of the control
center. It'd make more sense if I saw Home-Keyboard rather than All
Setting :)

[Bug 792636] Re: Power section no longer allows configuration of when the lid is closed action in Oneiric

2011-09-08 Thread Charlie Schluting ☃
I too am keenly interested in getting this back in the UI, as my bug #

In my opinion gnome-tweak, gsettings hacking, etc is not relevant, as
this is an easy to understand (and desired) setting for many people --
and it existed in Natty :)

[Bug 463314] Re: gdm ignores timed/auto login on all but first greeter run

2011-08-22 Thread Charlie Kravetz
hamish: Perhaps you should read what I really wrote above. This bug is
in GDM, which may affect each distribution. Let's remember, Xubuntu is
not Ubuntu, and mixing these does make it much more confusing to
determine what is really being used. As you state, it is still broken
in xubuntu 11.04 which makes ubuntu an unusable option is not a valid
argument. Xubuntu 11.04 is not Ubuntu, it derived from Ubuntu. Let's
attempt to keep these separate. A bug in GDM can affect all
distributions that use it. It is still a bug in GDM.
