There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. Compiz, in particular, is in heavy development and this bug may have been fixed in the next version of Ubuntu (12.04) if not on the current 11.10 release. If you are able, it would be of great help if you could confirm if the bug still exists by testing a livecd or live thumb drive (available at http://www.ubuntu.com). When you test it and if it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-collect bug # and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue. [Bug 154085] Re: Dialog boxes that open while typing can easily be accidentally closed by pressing space bar
I'm not sure what to make of this -- this is something that should be handled on the level of the program, not the window manager itself. For instance, bug 373974 deals with the update manager's issues with focus stealing. bug 391479 deals with windows stealing focus on another desktop. Also, with modal dialogues around the corner, I believe that this most certainly makes any issue like this pertain to the program itself (and should be filed as such); since it's the programmer's job to set what buttons are focused. ** Changed in: metacity (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/154085 Title: Dialog boxes that open while typing can easily be accidentally closed by pressing space bar To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/154085/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Actually, the laptop I had tested on as well had it freeze as well. The audio will continue on as normal but the current video frame will freeze. [Bug 439448] Re: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets
Well, I just bought a dual-core laptop with intel i915 graphics - Haven't seen the corruption in the slightest hint since I installed Maverick (it's been about four days). It does have only a 5400 RPM HDD, though, so perhaps the slightly slower boot makes it benefit? Dunno. Passa: I understand your frustration. But here are your options: 1) Go upstream and try to help out GNOME with patches or ideas on patches. 2) Unsubscribe from this bug. 3) Try a different desktop environment. I'm very sorry that you've been badly afflicted by this bug but there is nothing that can be done until there is someone that can do it. The best that we (as in Ubuntu/launchpad) can do is generate ideas and patches (which has been done) until something happens. This bug is certainly an example of one of the problems that plagues GNOME: five+ year old annoyance bugs. But unless there is something we can do personally to help, I don't think we have a right to swear up a storm (on an indirect bug report, no less). Also, side note to Kevin. [Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets
I might have found a reliable workaround: Delaying the loading of the gnome-panel. I've been running this for two days now (and have restarted over 20 times in addition for testing) and I haven't seen the problem any more. Granted, this bug is really a pisser-offer that I can see hiding temporarily, but after every boot up of that day giving me corruption it had completely stopped since I have done the following: I created a tiny .sh script, placed in it my home folder, marked as executable, and then edited /usr/share/applications/gnome-panel.desktop so that exec=bash /home/user/script.sh In the script, I have simply put: --- #! /bin/bash sleep 3 gnome-panel exit --- (I couldn't get this to work in the gnome-panel.desktop files so I just made it execute the script) This seems to have worked fine for me. I tried this out because I was getting tired of every single boot up having corruption. I've been very happy with the results. I dearly hope this could be of any use as this is probably the number one ARGH bug since ye olde window corruption bug from nvidia 177 drivers ;) I think it should be noted that my computer hasn't had internet since May so I am pretty far out of date. -- visual corruption affecting several panel applets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/439448 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
