[Bug 662766] Re: does not reconnect after suspend/resume

2012-12-06 Thread Chauncellor
It's very interesting, I have been using 12.04 with the same exact
accounts and configs for the longest time now and it only recently
started behaving like the bug again. Wish I could recreate it.

[Bug 923823] Re: Add Open file location to right-click menu in file search dialog

2012-09-06 Thread Chauncellor
It's tracking the status in GNOME's bugzilla - they marked it as a dupe.

If I were you I wouldn't get your hopes up on this feature being
included. They'd rather sniff glue than put any design effort into their
programs, so you might as well install a different file manager at this
point. This request is six years old and will still be here until Gnome
finally dies.

[Bug 885804] Re: Always on Visible Workspace lost intermittently...

2012-05-08 Thread Chauncellor
Hi, Omega!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. Compiz, in particular, is
in heavy development and this bug may have been fixed in the next
version of Ubuntu (12.04) if not on the current 11.10 release. If you
are able, it would be of great help if you could confirm if the bug
still exists by testing a livecd or live thumb drive (available at
http://www.ubuntu.com). When you test it and if it is still an issue,
kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-collect bug # and any
other logs that are relevant for this particular issue. Please keep in
mind that I am not recommending you change your current setup - this
would merely be beneficial to see if the issue persists in a newer
version. I seem to be unable to reproduce this issue on 12.04.

Thank you for your help and patience.

[Bug 154085] Re: Dialog boxes that open while typing can easily be accidentally closed by pressing space bar

2012-02-03 Thread Chauncellor
I'm not sure what to make of this -- this is something that should be
handled on the level of the program, not the window manager itself.

For instance, bug 373974 deals with the update manager's issues with
focus stealing.

bug 391479 deals with windows stealing focus on another desktop.

Also, with modal dialogues around the corner, I believe that this most
certainly makes any issue like this pertain to the program itself (and
should be filed as such); since it's the programmer's job to set what
buttons are focused.

I've found that editing

[Bug 726261] Re: empathy does not update notify-osd notifications

2011-04-30 Thread Chauncellor
Since support for notify-osd is not in the job description of the
empathy devs should we even be reporting to them in the first place? Is
the specific problem that is preventing the behavior because of a fault
with the notify-osd integration or the gnome notification system
altogether? It would be helpful to pinpoint where the fault lies before
clotting up their bugzilla.

[Bug 726261] Re: empathy does not update notify-osd notifications

2011-04-28 Thread Chauncellor
Omer, I don't think bug 666288 is the same issue. I think Alex (and if
I'm right, my) issue is with that the merging of notifications is
broken:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NotifyOSD#Overflow%20of%20long%20messages

Instead of the previous behavior the bubbles all queue up in succession;
so if you have someone IM you six times you'll have six queued bubbles.

Did you file a report or shall I? If you did, please link it here

[Bug 224475] Re: [MASTER] Volume/brightness/eject key briefly changes window focus (e.g. makes Flash exit full screen)

2010-11-07 Thread Chauncellor
Actually, the laptop I had tested on as well had it freeze as well. The
audio will continue on as normal but the current video frame will
freeze. As soon as you exit fullscreen it will go back to normal. I
figured it was just because I was using the dumpy 64 bit version so I
didn't mention the fact. It does this with compiz. If I use metacity
then all functions well (though the screen flickers a little bit).

But it does adjust the volume fullscreen!

No, I was just pulling everyone's leg. .

This is about fullscreen flash anyway, not windowed. Regardless this
discussion does not belong on this report. If someone else would be
willing to report a new report it would be beneficial. I could really
care less about that one because of the packages at fault.

[Bug 668987] [NEW] New sound indicator only restores Rhythmbox on the desktop it was closed on.

2010-10-30 Thread Chauncellor
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Rhythmbox just got functionality back of minimizing to indicator on
close (kind of) but restoring on the currently used desktop is broken.
It restores on the same desktop it was closed on, forcing the user to
switch back to that desktop again in order to use it.

[Bug 439448] Re: Visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-10-25 Thread Chauncellor
Well, I just bought a dual-core laptop with intel i915 graphics -
Haven't seen the corruption in the slightest hint since I installed
Maverick (it's been about four days). It does have only a 5400 RPM HDD,
though, so perhaps the slightly slower boot makes it benefit?

Dunno. I'm afraid this bug will probably not get resolved because of the
recent decision to use Unity as the default environment.

my xid was unknown. I tried appending it to the line so that it
shows:

!(class=Polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1) || xid=unknown

and it still exits fullscreen. Is this xwininfo saying that it truly
does not know? I've also tried unknown (without the ) with no
results.

Both times I made sure to reload compiz via 'compiz --replace'.

Anything I'm doing wrong?

I kindly ask that any and all discussion will be moved over to the
forums or private emails. This is a bug tracker, not a discussion board.

[Bug 615300] Re: Set and/or enable default Evolution signature as Sent from Ubuntu

2010-09-19 Thread Chauncellor
Shane: This is bad advertising.

Go read an email from hotmail and notice the banners and adverts for
msn-related things.

This is the sort of nasty business that is getting shoved down these
poor people's throats.

The lifehacker article sums up very well the reason why this is
something that will make us ashamed if it makes final. This is the small
pebble.

[Bug 615300] Re: Evolution should have a default signature enabled

2010-09-17 Thread Chauncellor
There is absolutely no reason for this. This is not classy. It actually
feels pompous and rude.

I beg the person with this idea to please reconsider. Please present the
purpose of this inclusion. Just because Apple started this trend does
not mean it is a smart thing to copy.

[Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-09-11 Thread Chauncellor
Great idea, Mal.

I'd love to try it out myself but it looks like it's no longer affecting
me. I've reverted my workaround for kicks after all this time and I get
basically no corruption anymore. Nor do I really have access to a
machine that has corruption regularly enough - They all happen
(painfully for testing) too sparingly for me.

[Bug 44082] Re: GNOME Panel icons (on right side) move apparently randomly on session start in some situations

2010-09-09 Thread Chauncellor
Passa: I understand your frustration. But here are your options:

1) Go upstream and try to help out GNOME with patches or ideas on patches.
2) Unsubscribe from this bug.
3) Try a different desktop environment.

I'm very sorry that you've been badly afflicted by this bug but there is
nothing that can be done until there is someone that can do it. The best
that we (as in Ubuntu/launchpad) can do is generate ideas and patches
(which has been done) until something happens.

This bug is certainly an example of one of the problems that plagues
GNOME: five+ year old annoyance bugs. But unless there is something we
can do personally to help, I don't think we have a right to swear up a
storm (on an indirect bug report, no less).

Also, side note to Kevin. I think you might find with some research that
Mac is actually the one that, in closed-source fashion, recreated the
Looking-Glass dock :).

[Bug 344343] Re: Installation for theme name_of_the_theme failed. Can't move directory over directory

2010-09-03 Thread Chauncellor
Christopher: navigate to your ~/.themes folder and delete the name of
the theme's folder.

SignedAdam:

You really have no right to demand something like that. If anyone here
does not want to submit a patch then the best you can help out is
confirming the bug here with a me, too
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=591197), which noone has
done for over a year, now despite my multiple requests to do so.

[Bug 554375] Re: clicking on rhythmbox icon does nothing

2010-08-20 Thread Chauncellor
For me the issue is slightly fixed:

The menu-less click happens during rhythmbox's scan-on-startup of my
music folder. Once it is finished the menu works as normal.

[Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-07-24 Thread Chauncellor
FYI, my comment in post #205 still holds. It's been over a week and the
problem is completely and utterly gone for me. Has anyone else tried
this workaround (or found a better way to perform it)? delaying the
panels for merely three seconds (three being arbitrary; I never tried
two or even one) has fixed it for me, and I see no difference in my
startup.

[Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-07-17 Thread Chauncellor
I might have found a reliable workaround: Delaying the loading of the
gnome-panel.

I've been running this for two days now (and have restarted over 20
times in addition for testing) and I haven't seen the problem any more.
Granted, this bug is really a pisser-offer that I can see hiding
temporarily, but after every boot up of that day giving me corruption it
had completely stopped since I have done the following:

I created a tiny .sh script, placed in it my home folder, marked as
executable, and then edited /usr/share/applications/gnome-panel.desktop
so that exec=bash /home/user/script.sh

In the script, I have simply put:
---
#! /bin/bash

sleep 3 gnome-panel

exit
---
(I couldn't get this to work in the gnome-panel.desktop files so I just made it
execute the script)
This seems to have worked fine for me. I tried this out because I was getting
tired of every single boot up having corruption. I've been very happy with the
results. I dearly hope this could be of any use as this is probably the number
one ARGH bug since ye olde window corruption bug from nvidia 177 drivers ;)

I think it should be noted that my computer hasn't had internet since
May so I am pretty far out of date.

2010-06-24 Thread Chauncellor
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 439448 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/439448

Joaquin, looking at your screenshot, this does seem to be a duplicate.
I'm having a hard time understanding what you are trying to tell us.
Forgive me if I assume or wrongly understand.

I myself have had this bug since Karmic, so the bug is not Lucid-
specific. You see that you have two bluetooth icons and that your
calendar overlaps another calendar? This is certainly a side-effect of
bug 439448.

If you encounter this bug again, running the command 'killall gnome-
panel' again should fix it for that session. This includes your missing
music applet, I believe.
